More casual fans probably aren't aware of the Legendary ending. The normal post-credits scene really was a satisfying ending.

But, yes, this day was obviously coming, so just shut up and accept it.
I'm not a fan of beating a dead horse either, but people throw around "casual" as much as "hipster" without using the terms properly

And once again, they wont release it for the PC because microsoft hates their fans
This bugs me too... "BUT PC MARKET IS DEAD EVEN THOUGH PC REVENUE IS UP 19% THIS YEAR ALREADY LOL"
No. That's a proper use of the term casual. As in, apathetic. Not taking seriously. Unconcerned with. A casual fan would probably not beat the game on the highest difficulty. Please explain where I used it wrong.
Casual games are Bejeweled, the farm game on facebook, and stuff like that... people who play games casually, not like the people who own systems and keep up on the latest sequel to a long running francise. Your aunt playing farmville on facebook is a casual gamer, and I don't think she'd sit down to blast through Halo 4.

You're looking for the term "lowest common denominator", which is the fratboy demographic

Eh, i still wont be buying it. but it warms my heart to know that the people who live in my area saying that they trusted microsoft to be "new and innovating" with Bungie leaving and therefore halo leaving can choke on their words.

So more or less, I'm not surprised and hardly care. if it follows the trend, its going to keep sinking while getting prettier, like all that graphic means we wont see the suck.

What kind of crap is this?
They killed it and just decided to bring it back from the dead so they could search for spare change in Halo's crusty suit pockets?

Should have seen it coming though

One thing that's a possibility - they could further extend the story by having this be a four-sided war instead of three. The humans, the elites, the brutes and the Flood. It could take place during an internal war between the members of the now broken Covenant (Elites vs. Brutes) and with humanity rebuilding and reclaiming their lost colonies. There's no reason to do a backtrack on a story this open, especially with how the endings have been.

There's another secret to the Halo rings that we aren't yet aware of...

I'll reserve my judgment until there are more details to peruse over, so until then...

When's the next Breath of Fire game coming out?!?!

Not specifically regarding Halo, but can anything leave on a high note like Seinfeld anymore?
It's sort of a fad right now, people are associating depressing endings with being more artistic than lighthearted ones.
Add to that the fact that many of the people writing these games come from the same generation that got "happily ever after" forced down their gullets at every turn so some of this might be the dam bursting for these guys.

I did think the end to 3 was pretty decent though. Rather satisfying in that he did what he had to do and was able to die with his work completed. I assume he died at least, apparently there was more to it than that, but whatever I was satisfied with what I thought happened and I rarely get an ending I really like so I don't wanna wreck it.
Not necessarily a happy or sad ending, but to end when it is over and with some integrity so that it can be remembered with fondness, ya know?

Disgraceful.

(Fine fine, more than one word: This is just sad. I've never been a huge fan of the Halo series, but I thought the ending to game 3 was good. But no, there's money to be had so lets desecrate the corpse of this franchise!)
Halo 3's ending was a cliffhanger. If they didn't resolve it, I would be very pissed.

I would rather the game explore some more of the human-covenant war than continue the chief's story, but this is still good so long as the forerunners take main focus. They're by far the most interesting species in the game.

A: When the hell did he have a jetpack on his back. I don't recall that from the 3rd game.
B: I wonder if this is going to be any good without Bungie at the helm. (I'm right that this is being made entirely by Microsoft, right?)
C: Another 3 movies? This is exactly what happened to Star Wars like someone mentioned above me. Hopefully they don't make the same mistake and let Hayden Christensen anywhere near it. (Or George Lucas for that matter.)
D: Trailer looks pretty wicked :)
3 games, not 3 movies, there is a difference :)
Not much of one considering the way they're being developed these days :D

I'd still like to see some more spin off games (More ODST, more Halo Wars, maybe something where you play exclusively as the Covenant) but hell I don't care, I love Halo and no doubt I'll buy into this trilogy and the Anniversary Edition.

Here's hoping that 343 can show off some skill, and some good storytelling.

Now, a wave of hate!

The bold pretty much sums up your post.

As a fan of the series, the 3rd left it purposefully ambiguous. I can't wait to see what this game is like and I'll be buying it.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's that simple.

I'm... not... alone... :D

I swear, I feel like I need to retire from this site. Too many people needlessly bash Halo and CoD, and act like they're cancer simply because they make new entries to the franchises.

The word "milking" should be a ban-able offense. Who the fuck cares if a company milks a franchise if the games are good?
I'm pissed as well, if Bungie wanted to make more Halo games that's fine with me, but I don't like the idea of some new company making anything that continues on with the story that truly belongs to Bungie.

Prequels, alternate storylines, fine, but don't fuck with the story that Bungie concluded.

Oh come on! Halo 3 had a perfect ending for once!
Except for the whole Master Chief and Cortana drifting off into an unknown planet...
Or, if you want to interpret that scene in a slightly different fashion - the beginning to the mother of all fight scenes:

Master Chief vs. Unicron!

Oh, no...here we go again.

Damn you standard-less gaming zombies! The industry continues to pump out, yet even more mediocre games, because you keep supporting the previous ones!
/mini-rant

There really wasn't a need for another one....or three.
Im not trying to be funny but just dont play them/buy them/look at them then. If you were sick of Halo at number 3 then you could have just stopped and ignored everything after it. I myself loved the campaign more than anything else in the Halo series as it started off wonderfully and ended badly... so I want to know what happens further on.

I just dont understand why people complain about sequels when they thought a series was gonna be dead anyways.

You know, a lot of people sound really upset about this.
Don't be, look at it like an opportunity.

If MS manages a miracle it may be a playable game (although they need to sack their marketing media staff for that trailer).
If it bombs then they just dug another foot in their own graves, that saves gamers doing it for them.

Also I was hoping halo 4 (as it was obvious this was going to happen) was going to slow down again. As in start a new epic from a new beginning, not enter on the thrill of the last game, that just ruins what came before.
Lesson in sequel making, in books its a new book, in films its a new film. After the end has been told you don't then reopen the book and say "And then more shit happened".

Guys, if you played Halo, you know what the covenant is not the biggest threat, You can complain after actually playing the game, sheesh so much unnecessary hate for this franchise.

I trust you 343 industries, please give us more story development this time.

Definitely, yeah.

Personally I'm a fan of endings that can easily be interpreted as happy or sad, as long as they are complete and final. I don't care too much for cliffhangers as they rarely lend themselves to a feeling of satisfaction and often also lead to a weak start to a new story.

I liked the first three, couldnt give a damn about reach or ODST which just felt like whipping a very nearly dead horse. 4..I'm not sure about. Will wait until I can play it before judging. But at this stage, with probably another 3 on the way...not all that excited.

It's only fair to judge the game after we see what the new developer does with it. Since it's not Bungie and a different story, it may not be the same thing all over again. Save the hate until the game is released.
And since it's a new developer, it's not a good idea to get really hyped for this.

I don't really care what anyone else says about it, the new Halo trilogy, if it doesn't suck, will outsell every single Halo game except for Halo: Combat Evolved (Which is, and always will be, the best game EVER).

Basically, like everyone else says, if it's good, than it'll go back to only CoD fans complaining, but if it sucks, than Microsoft will have killed a good franchise. I personally always wanted to see what happens next. Does the Cheif get back to Earth, or what?

Also, I believe that this next storyline will involve the Forerunner as the antagonists. In the novel Halo: cryptum, it is revealed that the Forerunner had a major war with the Human Race before the Flood came. Maybe the Forerunner have come back to reclaim their territory.

One, day, when I have the guts, patience, and money, I'll buy ALL the Halos. For now, Halo 1 suits me. :3

I hope it is as good as the other ones, and hopefully it isn't a Halo Wars, ODST, spin-off.

Wait what? Why? What more is there to say? What is he fighting against? Are there some pissed off Covenant remnants? Did Gravemind survive and track Chief down? Come on Microsoft if there's nothing left to be told, don't continue the story.

Even after saying that something tells me I'll end up playing it.

Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, but I'm glad they're making more Halo's.

I personally didn't enjoy the game, but tons and tons of people playing it online did. And for those who enjoyed the online competition, I'm glad they don't have to keep playing an outdated game for their thrills.

I mean releasing games yearly is a bit much, but to have a new sequel every two years with some tweaks and changes to keep it fresh for the online crowd?

Not only is it good for the economy, but great for the fans.

Not that I don't like Call of Duty, but I really don't want to see Halo become like the CoD franchise with one game a year. Here's hoping they at least stagger the release of this trilogy like they did with the first one.
