Anyway, both Valve and EA rely (or are trying to rely) on a digital game distribution service to buffer the costs of their wildly inefficient development cycles.
You realize that every Valve game has not only made them lot's of money, but that they've also releassed at least one game a year for the last six years (or at least will be whe the new CS and DOTA 2 are out). For all of the talk about Valve time and being inefficient, that's a pretty fast and consistent release schedule. The only reason people complain is because none of those games were HL2:E3 or HL3.

Valve are going to charge 15$ for CS:GO. EA would have charged 60$ + pack of DLC with one weapon in each for additional 60$. Yeah, it's quite the same.

My fear is... What happens when everybody gives all their money and support to Valve? Will they simply rise to take EA's place as they start gobbling up game studios and IPs?

Let's be honest: Valve has all but monopolized digital distribution already. Calling them "indie" just to be technical is like calling a full-grown dog a "puppy".

John Ravioli: WHAT!? THAT LOW FOR BROTHERHOOD! It was the best game in the series! It had a freaking hookblade! It's a blade with a hook on it! Who couldn't love it?
Assassin's Creed: Revelations had the hookblade, not Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

So.. in your opinion.. Valve taking a long time to release high quality games, is equivilant to EA buying out competitors and driving them into the ground to maintain their monopoly over the game design industry? really?

You sir, or madam, are an idiot.

And you, sir or madam, did not read the OP at all. I can tell by how you missed the final sentence.

Valve has only release other peoples stuff. Portal ..Started as a mod...Counter Strike ...same. Not to mention the blatant disrespect and down right mean spirited way they troll us about Half life.. In a lot of ways Valve is worse than Ea at least EA does not try and Fake who they are we all know EA are jerks,Valve have been tricking us into thinking they are a good company for years.
Yes, EA releases other people's stuff as well, that's why they are PUBLISHERS.

Also, that was a strange read, I really don't understand why the OP made this.

As I see it, Valve wants money just as much as EA. They're not philanthropists. They want our cash to continue making more products and generally stay in business
True, but there's a big difference between "let's make games so we can earn money" and "let's earn money so we can make games." (Thank MrBTongue for that one) O:

You're right, the two are MASSIVELY different. Valve/Steam are examples of how to treat your customers with respect. EA/Origin are examples of how to get your customer, brutally torture them then charge them 100 dollars for it.

Also, Valve makes a game pretty much every year, like people have said. Think about it: Last year was Portal 2, they didn't make anything in 2010, sure. But in 2009 came L4D2, and the year before that came L4D. This year they're releasing Counter Strike: Global Offensive AND Dota 2, and making them both really cheap or free to play respectively. It's just because they're taking a long time with HL3 that people think they're a company that barely releases games.

I bought the Limbs expansion pack, it was a total rip, they're only level 1 so I can't swing any of my high-level weaponry still. How useless.

Well valve and EA are different on one, key front. Valve wants to make games with a benefit of being payed, EA wants payed so they make games.

That is the key difference here, sure, Valve wants to make money but saying that they only want to make games for a profit is wrong. EA on the other hand wants to just make money and as a result they sell games. If you want to get insight on what I mean, compare how Valve markets themselves or says about other competitors like EA's Origin, then compare what EA says about Valve's Steam and how they market their games, I'll sit here and wait.... Good did you finish? Whats the biggest difference between how these two market their products, games. Well EA takes a much more shallow "LOOK AT THESE GRAPHICS, YOU SEE THAT THERE, YEAH THAT IS TOTALLY IN-GAME LOOK AT THESE GRAPHICS YOU DICKS! BUY OUR GAME, BUY IT BUT ALSO BUY IT NEW SO THAT WE GET MORE MONEY OR ELSE YOU HAVE TO PAY 20$ MORE FOR CUT CONTENT! BUY THESE DLC BUNDLES WERE ANNOUNCING BEFORE RELEASE!" While Valve is more "Well here, take a look at our product and see what you think. We made this so you guys could enjoy it. The price-tag is 60$ with free DLC coming out later."

Valve has always cared more about their consumer then EA and as such don't try to color our expectations with endless amounts of glitter and cutscene trailers. Even when they do they don't have us pay 10$ for a fucking map-pack or 10$ to activate online since we bought it from a competitor or used.

While on this subject, Steam as DRM is more similar to saying Gamestop is DRM. Steam is essentially a fully-digital Gamestop, you walk in, buy your game and download it. Steam will just keep your Library nice and concise in its Library section so you can pick and choose what to play later or delete.

In conclusion, no their not the same on the principal that EA strictly publishes or makes games to get money, not for their love of games. And Valve loves to make games with the side benefit of being payed. OP, obviously you made either a troll-post [shame on you] or some joke that just went above my head, but in case you meant what you meant, there is my defense of Valve, take it as you will.
