Maybe some motivation for Faith other than "dystopia is bad". Just a thought.
Didn't the cops kill her parents or something?
People fast-forwarded through the cutscenes and missed all that. Really folks if you're not going to look for the backstory the game isn't obligated to hand it to you. It's not like it's being given to you via a wall of text on elevators...well ok it is but still.

And I guess I'm the only person who didn't have a problem with the art style of the cutscenes.
Naw, I kinda liked it too... They just were lacking action (except for the end of the Boat, the worst level).

I loved Mirror's Edge, but DAMN THERE WERE TOO MANY POLICE.
Your in an alternate universe where the government watches everything you do and cracks down on anything slightly illegal with an iron fist, what were you expecting, a traffic cop or two?

Anyway, i hope they make a sequel. That game was damn fun.

No way. I loved the art style, I love most everything about that game. The text on the elevators was hilarious.

It's looking like EA is getting better and better about qualtity control I can't wait to see how mirror's edge 2 comes out and whether there will be an exciting Edge lawsuit again
Sadly, as they improve in quality, their profits are dropping like a stone. Whereas the more clones Activison pump out, the more feet get added to the Activison money pit.

I suspect EA will have to go back to the old ways before long if only to survive :(

I played the demo, and I really liked the premise and execution. I didn't buy the whole game though because I heard it was incredibly short and linear, plus the gunplay sucked and supposedly it drew a lot of focus on it. I think if they where able to make an open world environment that worked well with the engine it would be truly awesome.

I'm quite happy that they want to take the game in a different direction. The gunplay was annoying(to say the least). While I would like more running around on rooftops and less fighting, I found that the melee combat was fun- running and kicking police officers off buildings pleased my inner supervillain. However, trying to execute one move and then making another one because you were one degree off got frustrating. It definitely needs to be built upon. However, the thing that bugged me the most was mucking around in elevators. The whole concept of using an elevator defeats the 'running' aspect of the game and made transitions between places/levels somewhat jarring(game play wise). Mirror's Edge is a gem that simply needs polishing.

My head would explode if they offered an SDK... I would spend DAYS making levels. I hope they release one...

I'm looking forward to Mirror's Edge 2. I would pre-order that sucker.

And if you are complaining about gun fights in Mirror's Edge, I ask you this: why did you even pick up a gun in the first place?
Because EA thought it would be a great idea if they made a level where it would be impossible to proceed until you defeated a team of SWAT agents. EA thought it would be even better if they made the other agents gang up on you if you tried to single one of them out, thus rendering melee attacks useless and in turn forcing you to pick up a gun shoot at the SWAT forces until they died. THAT'S WHY.

If nothing else, I'd like to see decent cutscenes--the game itself was an interesting experiment, but the crappy cutscenes kept me from giving it a serious chance.

I only want 3 things that I would think this is the best game in a long time.

1. Level editor or real multiplayer (so it has replay value)
2. Better story (and hope they stick the same art style as it was beautiful)
3. And I kind of hope dice will implement sound program from frostbite to this game, as in frostbite engine the sound is amazing and it would fit this game perfect

But even if they implement only replay value I am happy as I really liked the first one as it was the first god game since prince of persia sands of time (I didn't played assassins cred 1 so I can't say if it is better or worse).

This is

a) good news, and

b) really making me replay Mirror's Edge.

As for replay value, destroyer, you probably haven't seen the leaderboards, eh? I mean, how third stars on the challenges are even possible is beyond me.
I know about leaderboard but it isn't that fun for me. I think that there can be truly inovative multiplayer mods with this gameplay, they just need to explore.

I hope it doesn't become another Breakdown type thing. I still await an announcement for the second one.

I have to admit I'm on Yahtzee's camp of complete rejection of online gaming and this is a complete non-issue to me (which also means I don't mind if it is actually there, like in Uncharted 2), but in this case...

What would you do, exactly? If you're trying to beat somebody to the finish line... that's what the ghost runs and leaderboards are for, you already get that. If you're trying to kill somebody, you go back to the gunplay, which nobody really cared for and wasn't the point of the game.

At best, you could be trying to cooperate for something, but it would amount to running alone until you needed your partner, doing whatever cooperative action (probably a lot of helping each other reach high places, I imagine) together and moving on.

It is not that I oppose the idea, it's that I honestly don't see how to implement it in a way that would improve the game.
I know you can't see beyond having to accomplish preset goals and all, but how about multiplayer where you set your own goals and try to achieve them co-operatively...

Enough said.

Edit: Also... Mirror's Edge Capture The Flag!

Faith's mother died in the November Riots and her father just sort of went emotionally dead from that point on. S'why Faith ditched the family.

This is something that really upsets me, although I suppose I am somewhat culpable myself, as I never bothered buying Mirror's Edge until it hit $5 on Steam. However, my excuse is that I simply do not have the sort of disposable income I can blow on a five-hour game with no Modding support.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I LOVED the cut scenes. I thought the art style was fantastic.

I said it with the first Mirror's Edge and I'll say it about the sequel: This game needs a level editor. One of the major complaints about Mirror's Edge is that some saw it as having little to no replayability. However, if you give people the tools to make awesome 3D parkour levels and then share them online LittleBigPlanet style, that problem is solved (at least partially). Also, why not add a race mode for multiplayer, a la the Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog titles?
I totally agree.

Given the pure parkour insanity of one of those DLC levels they released, the potential for user-created content is huge. Imagine how long some of the chain moves you could string together be...wall run + jump over a fence + skill roll + vault off ledge +...etc.

And for once, multiplayer here would not feel forced at all...the combat system for ME was actually pretty well-polished if not hectic, at least for me and my button-mashing.
They could certainly add more than a couple moves (default punches and the flying/slide kicks were kind of limiting) and the slow-mo disarms could actually be integrated in pretty well.

I wouldn't say it was fantastic...it certainly wasn't as bad as some people's bitching made it out to be.

I appreciated how fluid her acrobatic moves could look, but the rest of the time her movements seemed unreal and choppy.
I liked the clean and simple look of the colors, but at the same time it really didn't quite fit the aesthetic of the game...which was a sort of hyper-real mixed in with the surreal and harsh color scheme.

Then again, I can't think of a better way of conveying mood...Faith's conversation with Celeste always stuck with...kind of a soft and gentle touch in such a violent and repressive world, a weary resignation with still some hope to it.
