Since I don't think anyone has mentioned it, that policy has been there since they created the EA Download Manager. So, nothing new there.

I don't have an issue with it, really, I just use EADM/Origin for backups since I buy all my EA games retail.

Have they pulled games other than Crysis 2 (which even though I own on Steam I wish I hadn't bought)? If they make either ME3 or Old Republic exclusive, I will be buying them boxed off a shelf before signing up to Origin.

If that one year thing is for real, which I honestly find very difficult to believe (even for EA) then they might as well pull the plug on Origin now because they have ZERO chance of competing with Steam, D2D or GOG for example. Or they "sell" games temporarily for a fraction of retail price and rebrand Origin as a rental service because noone will pay top whack for a game they lose after a year, not even if it were a BioWare game. Not even Hollywood has the cheek to try a stunt like that with our films (though Napster/Spotify kinda does that with music).

Oh and I just noticed the BF3 release date...20 days after CoD:MW3. Haha, I hate Activision a little more than EA, but seriously EA how many copies do you think your crappy military shooter will sell 20 days after Activision's crappy military shooter? Perhaps they mistakenly believe people will either a) hold out or b) want (and afford) both. A clever marketing dept would've released it on the 6th ;-) Probably you can only get it through Origin anyway, not the most popular digital distribution platform (because having a larger potential customer base is proven to be bad for business) *roll eyes*

Hope this Origin isn't required, it might put me off Mass Effect 3.
Battlefield 3 I can do without, just nobody mess with Skyrim or Diablo 3!

It's getting more and more tense to like games. :O

Another reason EA origins will fail to the point of no return against steam. Also, why does it matter if the game is bought on origins or steam? they get just as much money selling them for the same price, so does it really matter?
If they own Origin and distribute games through that service instead of Steam, they don't split the money with Valve. It's a LOOOONG way to go for another leg up on a fraction of the game's retail cost, they'd probably lose it in maintenance costs, but that's greed for you. I'm going to guess that this is some executive's pet idea and he's too stubborn to give ground on it in spite of how all signs seem to point to this being the worst idea EA has ever had.

So EA might be scamming people by veiling Origin as a digital distribution service, when in reality it's a rental service? Now I know who not to "buy" games from, since EA considers them a service. Yeah, they're worse than Activision, in my eyes.

Of course, they're hiding all of this with legalese.

EA, you have put us gamers through a ton of shit lately, with that "Project 10 dollar" and all those unbalanced pre-order bonuses in multiplayer games, but we have looked past that because you guys have made some pretty fun games.I have been playing your games since Archon (which still has a shortcut on my desktop to this day)
But this is simply unacceptable. The treatment of your customers is borderline evil. First you make us pay extra to unlock the whole game, then you prevent paying customers from playing your games because you read something you didn't like while searching someones chats and messages, then you went far enough to market your M rated games to teenagers, which only reinforced the thought that games are and forever will be children's toys
And now you've done this. Forcing customers to pay extra money for something they rightfully paid for. You are a shame to publishers and the industry as a whole. I will not be using your "Origin," Thing, nor will I be purchasing the third Battlefield

You have lost the trust of a Loyal customer

EA, what is wrong with you. You have to compete with the epic juggernaut that is Steam and you plan on doing it with an inferior product? No, bad! Shame on you! Go sit int he corner and think about what you did! EA needs to introduce some superior or different thing to Steam in order to have some niche to compete but making it even have the basic functionality to compete is going to leave it DOA.

You mean something like
Valve hereby grants, and you accept, a limited, terminable, non-exclusive license and right to use the Software for your personal use in accordance with this Agreement and the Subscription Terms. The Software is licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Software.
Yeah, EA is the devil and Steam is divine...

The text seems to be strongly edited (it's pictures of text that has been cut out on certain edges, instead of, just say, copy/paste the text from the source). I'll wait for a more official statement regarding Origin's EULA.

Wouldn't surprise me, though. I mean, it -is- EA.

Don't jump to conclusions. That "article" is pretty dodgy, not having an actual link to the EULA, and the whole "picture of text" thing, instead of copy/pasting is also kind of curious.

I understand that's part of the legalese, and ensuring all rights are on part of the company, such that no matter what the heck goes wrong, they can go back and say "Well, technically, in the EULA you have no rights whatsoever."

I think that needs to change. I think it would be awesome if people started looking at EULAs and saying "Wait? I don't have the right to X? Can that be amended for my contract? No? Good day to you, sorry we couldn't do business."

And they expect to compete with Steam? Ha, they've already shot themselves in the foot and they're not even out of the gate yet.

People should read the EULA to any service or any game the past 20 years or so, if not further back, before bitching about EA.

Valve is no better.

While this is correct, and Valve has banned people for some not-so-good reasons, nothing compares to EA.

Origin eat 8 times more resources than Steam.
EA has the policy of banned from forum = banned from game. And considering that they ban people for ANYTHING you might as well kiss your acc. goodbye.
EA customer service.
EA Store.
EA PR.

While Valve has a similar rule, they have shown support for their community, dedication and willingness to work.
EA shuts down game servers after 2 years, scraps project after project and has so far had an abysmal customer support.
