Context is your friend.

OT: Other than Origin, my only real trouble was when trying to get a refund for APB way back when but I had to settle for another game then use their crappy download manager to play it. It's all very "meh."

Me? I have never ever had a single problem with EA, or anything EA has done. Personally, i dont see why people hate EA.
They think it makes them look cool on the internet.

One of the main things that EA gets flak for is buying a company and then closing them when that company loses both profit and the ability to make games that aren't mediocre.

What makes me laugh is that THQ, Activision, Take-Two, and just about every other major publisher has done the same thing.

People just don't like seeing a business act like a business, and some people suffer from what I personally call 'Che Guevera syndrome'. If it's a corporation they express their disdain on the internet while they keep buying corporation product.

It's kind of like the guy wearing the Che Guevera shirt who talks about how great he was.

We all know one.

But we don't have the heart to tell him that when he bought the shirt, he spat on every idea that Che had.
Really cool bro. Have you ever used origin? That would explain your un-hate for EA.
I actually have.

It works fine.

Worked fine for my friend who bought TOR off it as well.

Are you trying to tell me that because you don't like Origin that's reason enough for me to hate EA? That's a pretty lackluster point.
Are you and your friend using the same origin as the rest of the internet?
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/naxfo/add_me_to_the_list_of_the_victims_of_origin/
Again.

Yes.

How is that link supposed to convince me of Origin's shortcomings when it's just a whole bunch of unfortunate people repeatedly[/c] replying to one thread?

Especially, as I already explained, when Origin is working just fine for myself, AND my friend.
Hell, I'm going to be using Origin to purchase TOR.

People need to get off this, 'it's cool to hate EA' spat. They're just like any other video game corporation. People get mad at EA for anything but let Bethesda release bug filled games without flack. It's kind of sad really.

Looking around at this thread, and the rest of the internet, you and your friend seem to be the only ones genuinely satisfied with origin. EA is a publisher. I don't blame them for the quality of their games, but if I did, it would involve lots of caps lock and profanities about the butchering of liara's character in ME2, the rat quicktime event in battlefield 3 (flashlights blinding you in daytime, WTF?), and the entirety of DA2. I hate them because they are a shitty company, completely out of touch from their community and only interested in profits.

I would look again. There are more posts telling the people spraying hate to bugger off than there are "horror" stories.

If there is any company that isn't "only interested in profits", then they exist in magical fairy land. ALL COMPANIES CARE ABOUT PROFITS NUMBER ONE. Whether this is Bioware, Valve, EA, Activision, IBM, Microsoft, Sony, or Burger F***ing King, all companies care profits number one.

OT: Only problem I've had with EA is that the NBA Live series has gone way downhill. I liked that series about 7 years ago.

Okay, first of all, I suppose nonprofits only exist in magical fairy land. Most companies intend to make a profit, and that is their goal, but some companies put the satisfaction of their community over their profits.
Corporations are legally obligated to make as much profit as possible because they legally have a duty to maximize shareholder value:http://www.litigationandtrial.com/2010/09/articles/series/special-comment/ebay-v-newmark-al-franken-was-right-corporations-are-legally-required-to-maximize-profits/

Essentially, if it's a corporation, money has to come first.

When I was getting them to fix my BFBC2 multiplayer account, they convinced me the only way to fix it was to install another copy they gave me conveniently on Origin, which had only just gone up. I later found on the Internet an easy way to fix it and EA had basically wasted my time and make me download their spyware. As soon as I found the fix, I uninstalled Origin and reinstalled my Steam copy of BFBC2 and haven't looked back there.

URBAN STRIKE WAS WORSE THAN JUNGLE STRIKE.

Yep, the sequel to the game that has consistently appeared on my "best games ever" lists was actually worse than the game that preceded it. A LOT worse. EA was responsible for both.

DRM-wise, I can't say I've been directly affected by their business practices, but I'm sure a few annoyances could be put down to companies using such tactics.

EA is guilty of using online passes.
Bioware is guilty of ruining Mass Effect and Dragon Age with their respective, GAWDMUTHERFUDGINGAWFUL sequels.

I don't know what you're trying to say, but I was saying it was ironic that the anti-Piracy DRM led to him getting a pirated copy of the game (even if he didn't pirate it himself).

Not going ahead with Dungeon Keeper 3 is about all they've done bad by me.

I don't blame them much for Dragon Age 2, I'd equally weigh the blame of that on both them and Bioware (maybe a bit more towards Bioware).

Their EA Sports line is a bit of a joke, but if people are willing to spend 50e a year on a roster and skin update then why wouldn't EA take their money?

Which goes back to my point, the point which you decided to respond to in the first place.

EA isn't the only company that is only interested in profits. Every company is only interested in profits. EA just doesn't do the PR nice guy stuff that other companies do.

With all of the near broken Bethesda published/developed games that have come out, people still love them.

With the fact that Obsidian has never released a game that hasn't had major bugs (Alpha Protocol, New Vegas), everyone seems to be fine with that company.

Nintendo's constant rehashing of games that people who can't stop living in the past keep buying. Also for not getting with the times when it comes to online console gaming.

Microsoft being the only console manufacturer that charges for online.

Activision essentially milking Guitar Hero to literal death, milking COD, and producing next to nothing original.

Here in Canada, The Witcher Enhanced Edition didn't come with the required CD Key (affected me personally). I didn't go and make a forum post about how much CD Projeckt sucks. I went to customer care and got a new CD key.

Ubisoft's asinine DRM and milking of Assassin's Creed.

With all of what other companies do listed above, people still give EA flak over any other company over the most miniscule complaints.
For example:
"Origin scans my PC"
Windows Updates do that as well. And to be honest what are you worried about? They use to info on your PC and sell it to advertiser, just like Facebook, MySpace, and any other social media site.

Valve got freaking hacked and told everyone that their credit info was in danger.

Not a peep of negativity.

If Origin got hacked it would have been EA's fault in the eyes of everyone, and instead of being rational and just changing their passwords, people would be setting up a class action lawsuit.

And sadly what the OP is really complaining about is the compensation. Compensation EA didn't have to give out. OP is mad because they dared to give him coupons for Origin because he had to re-install a video game and make new characters for an MMO. Whoop dee freaking do, what a tragedy.

It's kind of a pathetic thing to complain about on the internet in a forum overall. At least I'm glad that, judging from the other posts here, I'm not the only person who thought that hating EA stopped being cool 5 years ago.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but new vegas is easily the buggiest game running on the gamebryo engine, but I still like obsidian, because new vegas is a pretty good game.
Valve immediately came out and told everyone when it happened, what had happened. Unlike what some other companies *cough*sony*cough* did. When a company is honest about something, people don't hate them as much as a company who hides information at the risk of their customers. If origin ever gets hacked, we will see what EA does.
You act like people regard windows updates fondly at all. Well at least I don't.
I haven't bought an ubisoft game ever since AC2.
I hate activision, but they haven't released a good game since World at War. Companies with no potential are easy to ignore.

Edit: Similar thing happened to me. I bought mercenaries 2 for the 360, it crashed when it tried to connect to the EA servers, and I went to EA support. They literally told me nothing, made me make a new live account, reset my birth date, and a bunch of other stuff, when it was obvious their shitty software was causing the problem. Eventually the lady just said "there seems to be a bug going around" and left, even after I had linked to her forum posts with the exact same problem going back to 2009. I eventually fixed it by downloading the trial of army of two, and letting that install the EA server DRM shit correctly. I asked the EA support lady if that would work earlier, and she said no. If EA had even researched the problem and helped me solve it rather then giving me random things to try for an hour, then I wouldn't blame them. At least I wouldn't blame EA support, I would still blame EA for dropping support for a game as soon as it feels it can no longer make money off of it.

Edit number two: I stopped using my XBox for that specific reason. Denying customers use of the console they paid for is extreme douchebaggery.

I don't have any problems with EA at all, aside from a dislike of the concept of online passes that they seem to adore. I am, however, getting sick of people complaining about how SW:TOR requires Origin in any way, which it doesn't. I bought a digital copy of the game through Origin, but I never had to download install Origin on my computer, as you can download the game straight from the SW:TOR website.

Well yes because of that idiot, I had to spend 3 days talking to idiots and my BF3 still dose not work.
