It ain't an easter egg hon. It's a bit of a tie-in w/ Half Life 2: Episode 2.

To Valve-Please, don't make Half Life 2: Episode 3 like Portal!!!!!
did you play HL2:E2?

*****************spoiler******************
they are talking on a few different occasions about going to Aperture science and picking up a new weapon, so its a tie-in
I assume its the portal gun.
then the rest of the game pretty much goes like Garrys Mod

That's not an easter egg imo, I think it is relevant to the greater picture of the HL universe.
Seconded .. Pretty much all of the above. As they say in the commentary. They want to have it like the two companies are competing. Oh and by the way. Does Black Mesa still exist?

Yeah. Apature Science has something to do with what happened to Judith Mossman
and will be in HL2EP3.

Great. I feel like I've read a spoiler -.- =P
The facility of black mesa exists, but aliens killed everyone in it a long time ago. Noone works there.

Yeah, okay. That's what I thought. I knew that they were killed, but I had a speculation on maybe the had another facility.
I was about to say that it was kinda rude of Aperture Science to compete with a company that no one works for, but I think GlaDOS had the same effect as the aliens

Somewhere in one of the offices at Aperture is a sheet of paper that tells about the Portal testing on chickens. I don't remember exactly where, all I remember is that it was in one of the offices that you can get to after the whole fire pit thing.
I believe this [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/theroguewolf/Portal_OtherClipboard.jpg] is what you're referring to.

The half of Portals story is told though easter eggs, which is a kind of cool idea. It's another insentive to replay it.

I mean "The cake is a lie" is actually an easter egg. You'll miss it if your not careful.

Quite true. Or you'll miss it in-game. Frankly it's very hard to miss it otherwise =P

And yeah, I agree. There is something great about Valve regarding this. They really like to tell a silent story. Like in L4D, you can see places pointing as towards how stuff went wrong and not arond there =P

Of course I played it! That's how I know they talk about Aperture science in it. And I believe that the Portal Gun will somehow ruin the Half Life series in some way.

Especially if they combine it with the Grav Gun.

Grabbing objects through a portal, moving the portal to allow access to your enemy, and then throwing the object at them through the portal.

I think I smell my brain burning.

If the portal gun was in half life...could you pick yourself up with the super-charged gravity gun??

Food for thought.

Edit: On a more serious note
I found this poem In a room somewhere, and instantly recognized it because its sort of a cameo to Longfellow's poem (one of my favorites) The Reaper and the Flowers

Not in cruelty.
Not in wrath.
The reaper came today.
An angel visited
this gray path.
And took the cube away

Edit2: here's the actual image(not mine)

Perhaps the aliens reprogrammed GLaDOS to kill everyone in aperture science?

In one room there is a calendar with models head replaced with a companion cube. The disturbing thing is that calendar is for October or September 1983. (I can't remember which.) Apparently Aperture Science has had portal technology for a long time

You are stuck in portal?! Wow...
I got it a few moments after I posted that, I'm finished with the game now.

On the off chance that was sarcastic and not just unwarranted being a dick, har har har.

On the 360 version, if you type in, i can't remember whether it's the god mode or the restore health cheat from hl2, and you'll summon a health pack.

Anyone notice any interesting easter eggs in Portal? I just found this http://s384.photobucket.com/albums/oo281/zildjin81/?action=view&current=PortalEasterEgg-BlackMesa.jpg while playing lvl 19.

anyone notice any other funny easter eggs in portal?
I found loads of easter eggs in portal...but that room isn't exactly an easter egg. It's just a small device used like 3 times in the game to try and give the player a view of hoow aperture works and who they are. Plus those give like the only clues that you are playing in the same universe as the half life games.

Talking about half life, there are some REALLY cool easter eggs in those games. Like in one vent in half life one if you go the other way to the one the game wants you to you come out in a small room where all the wall tiling is labelled "valve insulation company inc." and there is a picture of the half life team on one wall.

Also in the latest steam update for half life 2 episode 2 there is a new route you can take at one point and you come out in a room like one of the hidden rooms in portal, with "the cake is a lie" and all kinds on the walls.

Class

EDIT: I have been told that on a lot of valve games they include iconic stuff (rooms, items etc) as one-time things for the player to find, visit or use as easter eggs. For instance Left 4 Dead has rooms from portal, half life 2 and a few others. Quite cool, wish some other companies would do it more often.

Wasn't Opposing Force not-exactly canon though?
it was an official expansion pack along with Blue Shift which was considered heavily in HL2 with the characters and story. As far as i can remember there was no Barney Calhoun in HL1, only BS, the name Barney came from the file name of the security guard model. I think its safe to say they would consider Opposing Force
