My military contract was up in may of this year.
I wanted to get out, go to college with the new $80,000 tuition that just got legislated, but given my lack of advanced IT training to put me ahead of the flood of newbie ITs, I just reenlisted for 3 more years to get as much as I can out of it before I go.
Oh, and they pay me $16,000 for it after taxes, too. That's always fun.
So, more shitty government work on aircraft carriers, but more job-security and free/compensated training for IT certifications and college.
Edit: and my Jew-sense tells me that reenlisting now is a great idea BECAUSE of the recession, and because it will get worse. After March 10th coming up, the reenlistment bonus for my job goes down to ~$5,000, and the bottom of the barrel IT's are straight up not allowed to reenlist at all.
