And that, good sir, is where I believe you are wrong. Perhaps this is a niche genre that needs to be filled? The MMO you can play either solo or with friends. Guild Wars did it pretty well, in my opinion. I could play with buddies, or I could advance the questline on my own if I choose to. I, for am, am glad that there will be a good chunk of TESO that you will be able to play solo, and that won't require a raiding party of fifteen.John Funk said:I can appreciate Firor's sentiment, but I do think that if players want content that's "100% solo," the MMO genre may not be for them.
Yes, that's exactly my point! My own reason is that there are times when my gaming can be unexpectedly interrupted, and you can't exactly put a raid on pause, now can you?Maze1125 said:That's a fallacy that MMOG developers have been holding on to for far too long.
There is a large portion of the MMOG player base that likes to solo. That doesn't mean they never want a team, just that sometimes they like to solo too.
There's multiple reasons, maybe they can't find a team, maybe they can't be bother to try and set one up and just want to fight immediately. Maybe they don't like to form teams themselves and like to wait to be invited, and want something to do in the meantime. Maybe they don't like teaming at all, and just like the MMOG's gameplay and story.
I hadn't thought of that, but you know what... you're right! I don't mind not being the hero, I'd perfectly happy being a random chick trying to make her own way in the world. The Forlorn said:Not the article, the game. Why the hell would I want to always be the hero? Especially in a massively multiplayer game? It's 1000x more interesting to be anything but the hero. Only kids want to be the heroes. Gamers are getting into their 60's now.
I'm not 60, though. ^_^
