Liked the first scene in episode 1, but the rest was boring and I stop watching after episode 4

Watched it. loved it.
Relativly short but with a good end.
the story is a little far fetched but nothing compared to most anime series.
funny and deep characters and good music. (Hugo Wolf)
worth a watch but it's a tiny bit overated consicering everything.
Lucy is badass anyway.

A little bit of nudity you say?
To me that's an understatement.

But still I've read/watched the whole thing and to me it's pretty good. I was kind of more interested in the gore from the get-go but I did gradually become interested in the story aswell. It's not my ultimate favourite but I would probably put it in my top ten.

Can't say much about the anime, but the manga was awesome! There, we had interesting characters a plotline with so many twists and turns it looked like a roller-coaster. But some of the nudity is a bit excessive. The gore is quite appropriate, though.
Theres a manga? You know where I could read it? :))
On Onemanga...oh wait...
but anyway I hated the manga it took everything I liked about the show and brutally murdered it you know IMO...
Is it? Damn, I really wanted to read it, although I must admit the anime ending was just right. Adding onto it would probably spoil it.

OT: I love Elfen Lied, and I've never really understood the hate for it..
I know it just goes on for far to long and goes way too over the top, like when Lucy basically goes super sayin and destroys an island of doll like diclonius. or when the military brings in the giant walking diclonius weapons. or well there are to many dumb decisions to count... but yeah it's best to just leave it at the anime... IMO...

I loved it.
I thought it had an interesting plot.
Sometimes the nudity really unnecessary.
It was to short though.

Loved it from start to finish! Finally an anime that can be gory, liberal with the nudity and violence and STILL provide a thought provoking story with a lot of elements I'm sure the every day Joe can relate to.

Not many animes have done the whole gore+plot mix as well as this, as I'm usually turned off from mindless crap from the get go.

Watched it awhile ago, consider it one of my favorites, and whenever someone makes fun of anime I usually just show them the first 7 minutes of episode 1.

I watched it and thought that it was pretty good.

Someone recommended it to me a year ago, so I looked for some videos of it.
The first video I saw of Elfen Lied was...

When those kids were beating the dog

I picked it up randomly after reading a good review about it and I watched it and really loved it.

Yeah the characters might be a bit weird and random (but hey its japanese) but overall, seeing this with untainted eyes was a good journey for me.

The nudity (and several bits of gore) were a bit of a shock to me initially but you soon get used to it and it becomes common place.

Lucy is a total beast as a main character and I love the contrast between her and Nyu.
Nyu is totally adorable (and I loved it when she made Kohta feel her up while cleaning - classic)

If you liked this I would heavily suggest checking out 'Gilgamesh' - a completely different anime, but I thoroughly enjoyed that and it needs multiple watches to get every little clue which I found to be different for an anime

I watched halfway through and then stopped.
It was trying to hard to be serious with all the gore and boobs and the sad stories, it seemed so stupid.

That just sounds incredibly stupid. I might pick up a couple of books of the English translation (if they ever get round to it) just out of curiosity but that just sounds.. Bad, and seems to defeat the whole point the anime was trying to get at.
the ending made sure that what they established in the anime and early chapters was for not... but if you are going to read it I won't spoil it for you...

Its crap.

It uses gore and cruelty to cover the fact its story is garbage. Written by a guy who failed to get his better (in his mind) works picked up. This is essentially his "the producers." Something he wrote thinking it was crap, but chock full of LCD. Its a work of spite.

Not to mention... the plot centric characters, literally, have invisible, infinitely strong arms coming from their back. Not telekinesis, not psionics, arms. That are invisible. And infinitely strong.

Not sure what they cut from the manga in the first episode, but they had the central character (lucy) wrapped up in a series of straight jackets, hanging from the ceiling, with a ring to mark the range of her invisible, infinitely strong arms. She escapes not because she just ripped this crap off... but because the new guy who was guarding her (read: sitting at a table next to her little enclosure), fell out of his chair, and she got a hold of the key... with her invisible, infinitely strong arms.

Not to mention, the manga had probably the worst art I'd ever seen. It wasn't even ineptitude with character (one piece) it was a guy half-assedly imitating the styles he thought were popular.

ehh....FINE I'LL LOOK AT IT! Jesus, everywhere I go it's elfen lied this, elfen lied that.

"It sucks!"
"No, it doesn't!"
"Yes, it does"
"No, it doesn't"

and I've been meaning to find a new anime since i finished Azumanga Daioh (which from what I've heard is a completely different genre) I've gotten kinda used to school girl animes so, this should be an interesting change of pace...

I saw it a while ago and enjoyed it a lot. It's by no means perfect, and it's definitely not for everyone, but I liked stuff about it like the dissonance between different scenes or between the characters or music and what happens in the story, and I liked the way it goes over the top but without getting completely ridiculous (in my opinion, which clearly not everyone agrees with, since just as many people hate it for the same reasons). I was very, very disappointed when I read the manga, though. Nearly everything they left out or changed in the transition from manga to anime improved it, as far as I'm concerned.
