Hmm I dont think it has anything to do with Civ4..I think the only thing that reminds me of Civ4 is the tech trees...but thats hardly something that Civ came up with.cannot_aim said:the game just started to play like civ 4 the graphhics are almost the same and the technology part while being cool and changing the gameplay is totally taken from civ
Youy probably right but never I liked Civ series that much. And when the mods start to come out for Empire(theres already a music and an unlock all factions mods) the game will gain new life, just like Rome and ME2. Hopefully there will be an Empire:Total Realism mod.cannot_aim said:It's not just the tech trees it just has the same feel as a civ game to me. It feels more slow paced and methodical than previous total war games and places more interest on taking time to make technology then making your army and conquering everyone.
Dont take it the wrong way I really love the game but there is just something about the game that makes me a little less enthusiastic about playing it. I'm gonna play this game until it dies though and then I'll play it a little more but I look back on Rome and Medieval a little bit more fondly because of it.
You can't hear cannon and musket fire? Of course they're in there, and they sound amazing! I can't even imagine what setting would disable these sounds.Ronwue said:Aside from the music, I would have loved to hear cannon fire and musket fire, but maybe I have missed some settings.
/sigh. Fine. I edited the OP so that it shows that the series started for me when Medieval was launched. It was my first game from the series.ElephantGuts said:You can't hear cannon and musket fire? And just because you didn't play Shogun doesn't mean you should say that Medieval was the start of the Total War series.
There are games more complex than TW. Master of orion III (which was not that good) was one of them and some of the games from Paradox Interactive which seem to be just like TW are more complex in my view. But that doesn't make a game. In master of orion III the complexity was shit, and I have yet to find a way to play the Paradox games.Bretty said:Yet another good itteration of this tremendous series...
A few kinks, but like all TW games, they seem to get better with Age.
You have to remember that there are NO games that are as complex TW. FPS games are scripted with opponent AI taking second fiddle to GFx and RTS games are again scripted with like 20 levels...
TW games just cannot be painted with a brush that has touched any other game, especially CIV. CIV is a computerised Board game... good it is but TW is is not.
I have spent every minute after work and social time spent on this game from release and I look forward to getting my hand on the modding tools!
Europa universalis? Thats your paradox game. Yeesh that game turns my brain to putty as well. In concept, I love it, but its just so drawn out I have been unable to do it.Ronwue said:There are games more complex than TW. Yes, that was the game I wanted to say. I played it a few days but I felt I was doing it wrong, and simply dropped it. Master of Orion III is a game I'd discuss in length, but this isn't its thread.thiosk said:Europa universalis? Thats your paradox game. Yeesh that game turns my brain to putty as well. Now MOO3, there you have tugged on my heartstrings. That was a terrible game, and I waited and waited and waited and bought it on release.
I'm a big fan of empire at the moment, and enjoyed your comments. (though I cannot figure out this whole naval combat thing.)
In the special forces edition you get 5 or more unique units to some factions. In the normal version you dont get.Luke_446 said:right now i've read your review and looked at the trailers and it looks fun if not really complex to control but before i buy it i was just wondering if any one knows the difference between normal and special forces edition?
