Compared to the Alicorn thing, I can find almost no one that is actually mad about this. So you're blowing it a bit out of proportion.

High school.

I ain't expecting much good out of that. Best thing the show ever did was make them real people with a proper set of responsibilities, rather than teenagers.

Im almost looking forward to it.

Its like... watching Evel Knievel. Im kinda hoping it will work, and be a spectacular success! But at the same time, if it crashes, burns, and runs around on fire giving thumbs up for 10 episodes i wont feel bad. I'll cringe, but not really feel bad.

Also, i cant wait to see how 4chan takes it. My money is on /mlp being WW3 for the shows duration.

Half of every fandom is the griping. This will give us something to whine about for months to come.
I, for one, can't wait.

I'm mostly just baffled by why bronies aren't going gaga over this.

I mean, they are drawing plenty of humanised pony art themselves, and a side-plot with a parallel universe seeems exactly the kind of thing that the nerdier fans of CONTINUITY and WORLDBUILDING would want. Many of them also seem to be anime otaku as well, judging by many of the crossovers, so a high school girls' setting should also be home field for them.

Or maybe there is also an inner cult of pony purists who literally HATE HUMANS, and everything that has humanoids in it?

There's this little thing called "over-reaction" and I think the term fit well in any discussion involving "the end of the brony world." It's almost upsetting to know that there will be people who'll leave the fandom because of this spin-off project, but what are you going to do? Anyway, from what I've sen of the trailer, this will be a movie so cheesy it's hilarious.

I have a feeling. It's a small feeling. But consider this: Maybe, Hasbro is not targeting the Brony community but is infact focusing on their target demographic? That is, little girls? And nothing sells like teenage girls in high schools battling with personal stuff.

It's just a thought.

I have no horse in this, but really, consider this alternative rather than thinking that everything Hasbro does with MLP, it has to be for the Brony peoples.
Of course, that's the kind of talk that most offends the brony community.

If it's offending them so much, then why do they keep writing it down over and over again?

First impression
it looks exactly like what Lauren Faust tried to avoid making when she first started working on FIM

That looks AWESOME! I don't care if it's a cliche'd high school setting. As long as it's funny (which it's looking to be) I am SO IN!
I guess if "funny" is the only reason you're looking forward to it then it'll probably be enough.

The thing that got me into MLP was the sheer nuclear-radiation level cuteness of the characters. So when they make them ACTUAL humans a lot of that charm is lost for me, judging from what I've seen in the trailer they just don't seem as adorable as ponies at all.

Especially when thrown into a highschool setting and the first thing I find myself is thinking "urgh, brats". Also when Twilight did that cliche bump into pretty-spiky-haired boy I immediately thought "shit, forced love interest". And the whole trailer had a ULTRA-cliche "prom queen" theme to it which makes me even less interested.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not some pissed-off brony waving angry fists at Hasbro for trying this sell-out strategy, I already understand that their end goal is to sell toys. And I also understand what MLP was for most of it's life, a teaspoon-deep children's show just barely a few notches up from Teletubbies.
Lauren Faust is what it took to raise MLP out of that and shatter all expectations, as far as I'm concerned everything went bland after S1 and S2 because that was the extent of Faust's involvement, I try to pretend that MLP S3 didn't happen because it doesn't have anywhere the same amount of charm/loveability S1/S2 had.

But yeah, I'm still skeptical of whether EQ:Girls will have the same charm as MLP season 1 & 2. I get it doesn't HAVE to have anything, Hasbro can do whatever the hell they like with their IP *shrug*

Because "brony" is not a single entity or a hive-mind. A lot of the time, seeming contradictions in large groups come from the fact that large groups will rarely agree on all points, or even all major points.

Granted, there are times where the people saying seemingly contradictory things are the same people, but a lot of time it's less hypocrisy and more diversity.

There are a lot of fans of MLP who seem well-adjusted. They're also not going to be the ones pitching a fit that the show is doing something without factoring them in. And they're not the ones who pitch a fit when someone says "it wasn't made for you."

This will either be surprisingly good or it will be such an amazing train wreck that a series of black holes will spawn in hot topic stores across the nation and suck up any evidence of the film's existence.

Yes, it seems to me like a horrific affront to the series, but end...? Of BRONIES? You've got to be kidding.

You all realize that this is an actual, theatrical movie, right? That this is the version of MLP that gets to theaters first. Not the original show, this new thing, which Hasbro is hoping to use as the pilot for a new series. Just, you know, putting everything in context. I actually don't have a horse in this race, as I am not a fan of the show.
I see what you did there.

OT: I probably won't watch it, I've watched the show on youtube usually catching up on 3 episodes at a time in the background but that trailer doesn't look all that great.
