I haven't watched season 3 past it opening arc. Why is it so bad?
I still haven't seen the last few episodes, but I actually liked Season 3. I'm surprised at all the vitriol it gets when it felt no better or worse than the first two seasons.

OT:
I don't care one way or the other about the spin-off. It should do a crossover with Gotham High though.

High school.

I ain't expecting much good out of that. Best thing the show ever did was make them real people with a proper set of responsibilities, rather than teenagers.
Indeed, one of the most intriguing things about the show, to me, (at least initially) was that it centered on a group of young adults rather than your typical school-age girls so oft found "girl shows".

Age ambiguity be damned, Twi's clearly a grad student, AJ pretty much runs the farm, RD has a government job, etc. etc., and most of them live alone.

I don't know what they expect to gain from putting them in high school. I don't see how that could at all benefit the set up MLP has.

Those are all there are of the series though, maybe there'll be a season 2 I dunno.

Hey everyone, just here to clear up a small misconception.
MLP isn't just designed for little girls. It's designed for little girls AND their parents.

OT: I'm cautiously pessimistic. I'm new to this whole brony scene but knew of it's existance for about a year before checking it out (I actually thought it was only watched ironically :p) but even when I knew nothing about it it always had a certain draw. I can't say the same for this show though.

I on the other hand am cautiously optimistic. Will surely wait to hear about it before I watch it, but I'll probably give it a view.
Trailer had me laughing at points so there is that, and why not give it a shot? Doesn't hurt anything in the first place anyways.

Replace the horses with teenage girls and remove all the horse puns and you get why I've never been able to get into this Pony stuff.
I'm not trying to be pushy, but it sounds like you haven't tried watching it. While it seems Equestria Girls will be all "generic high school drama," that's quite different from the normal show. The show's plotlines stray far from that of most "girly" shows. In fact, there's only been one episode where romance had any kind of effect in the plot, and that was because three fillies tried to hook up two adult ponies with a love potion, which they screwed up with disastrous results.

All I'm trying to say is give it a shot if you haven't. There are plenty of really good episodes with none of the generic "girly" cliches present in many cartoons. I'd be happy to suggest some.

If you have watched it and that is your opinion, however, then good for you and have a good day.
I really did try and watch it, I will admit that the show (pratically any animated shows these days) are a lot better than old crap from the early 90's (Dino Riders, so campy). But in a rare phenomenon, I found it's cutness so... cringe worthy, I've felt more comfortable getting needles than trying to watch MLP.

Not saying it's a bad show and people are bad for liking it (that's reserved for people who like Jersey Shore and Honey Boo Boo) but I just couldn't watch it. I'd actually like psychologists to attach some electrodes to my head and find out what part of me is violently rejecting it, because it's the first time I've never been able to watch a show for being so... cute.

And the puns; why did they need to say 'everypony', they've got bodies, why can't they say 'everybody'?

See, the thing that's always, ALWAYS, confused me about this is that I heard it was a movie. I heard it was movie first. Everyone said it was a movie. And then, a day later, people were having huge fits about this "TV Show," and I was utterly lost. I re-read the article that had first mentioned it and I saw nothing about a T.V. show. I still have not seen anything--beyond bronies insisting--that there's a T.V. show out there. And judging by the trailer, there's not going to be a T.V. show. Twilight goes to this human world and turns into a human. So she has to come back in order to continue My Little Pony. If anyone can point me to a link that says this is becoming a T.V. show after the movie comes out, please do, because I would like to read about that myself.

Anyway, I think it looks fun. I would prefer that they stayed ponies, but movies of T.V. shows tend to break the rules of the show. I'm seeing if it's playing anywhere in my city (so far, it's not listed) and if it is, I just need to work up the nerve to ask for a ticket. Otherwise, I'll buy the movie when it comes out on DVD/Blu-ray.

So, one bad show is going to run a franchise for everyone forever?

G3 hasn't stopped people from being My Little Pony fans, and it was awful.

Most My Little Pony fans are just going to ignore this. To be honest, the C&D of Fighting is Magic was a much bigger blow to the so called "brony" community than any lame humanization cash in show of the ponies.

Us who don't like it have this nice little option of, you know, not watching it.

Hahaha...O, wait, you're serious?

It's a spin-off series, which MIGHT do well...if the same quality standards are applied to it, as where applied to MLP:FiM.

"Not watch it"? But I have an obligation to watch things that tick me off! How am I supposed to accurately rage about a completely unrelated spin-of I am in no way obligated to watch if I don't view it first for no other reason than to pointlessly rage about it?!
Are you daft?
Anyway.
I thought it was *just* a movie. Or is it now a movie to kick off a spin-off series?
Either way, I'm going to give the movie a watch when it hits netflix. Assuming the latter is true, if I like what I see, I'll watch the series. If not, hey, I still got the regular MLP. As long of none if it rolls over into S4, I'll be pleased.

It eh...actually doesn't look that bad. From a "this won't affect the show I like in any way" standpoint of course. I can see myself watching it and giving it a real chance.

Also, good going not showing your bias towards the whole thing OP. (Sarcasm is sarcastic.) You're just inviting some of the...less intelligent members of our community to come and flame this thread, aren't you?

EDIT: Tip for next time, don't use the word bronie. It shows you either know NOTHING about the show, or are deliberately trying to troll us. Use brony.

Yeah, Executive Meddling is all over this thing. Does it bother me, though? Nope. It shouldn't either, OP.

First off, it's a spin-off. It doesn't meaningfully tie into the main series, and I'm fairly sure watching it will be just about as optional a means to acquire context as could possibly be. "Oh, you didn't watch Equestria Girls? No biggie, here's a pre-commercial break condensed narration to get you up to speed!"

Something like that.

Then there's the fact that this show is designed to sell hunks of plastic. It's absolutely no shock to me that they'd try and overlap the MLP and Barbie markets. That's literally all there is to this concept. As long as you approach this concept with the notion that the whole freaking thing is designed to sell plastic, it's a whole lot easier not to become too invested.

As this is, honestly, one of the main problems of the Brony fandom. It's a piece of commercialized fluff with moral guidelines stapled on so it feels vaguely compliant with E/I regulations. The strategy they found to make it palatable to the target audience's parents was to hand the concept to the Powerpuff Girls' creator and have her cram this initially empty husk of a premise with as much personality (and pop culture references) as humanly possible.

In other words? Freak out if they Bowlderize Dexter Morgan, or tear shit down if Cersei Lannister ever melts into a puddle of goo à la Wicked Witch of the West. That would be justified. This, though? Ponies going bipedal?

Who honestly cares?

Don't worry dude, I won't confuse you. I mean, RL ponies like Bill from LoTR are nothing like the other ponies. I mean, when people say they want to ride a Pegasus [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pegasus_(rocket)] I wonder how they would think up suck a terrible idea.

I thought MLP was MADE from "typical girl's stuff". How are chick ponies any manlier?
It's not about "manliness", it's about if there's things that will entertain more than just young girls. MLP has "chick ponies", sure. But it's also got a sense of humor, excellent animation and good writing and reasonably deep characters. Girls can like it for the cute ponies and guys can like it for the aforementioned.

In the case of Equestia Girls, if they go down the path of only having stuff that will interest teen girls (i.e popularity, fashion etc) then it might as well another traditional MLP series but aimed at teen girls this time.
