Ugh. I hated that ending too. There was no build up for that plot point throughout the whole film. It just sort of popped up their at the end.

On topic: The ending of Watchmen (the book) left an impression. As for films, I liked the ending of The Dark Knight.

Yes, I am a comic book geek.
Watchmen had an amazing ending.
There was never any bad guy to begain with. It turns out Veidt, one of the good guys (and the smartist man alive) killed the Comedian, made a monster/squid thing and transported it into a occupied space, creating a masive explosion and at the same time making the world think it was aliens, then the world joined together.

So this man, through genocide, created world peace and, in reality, saved billons more than he killed.

Silent Hill 2 and their damned "Dog-ending"... got to it accidentally, and I have not been able to forget it ever since, and I've tried!

The ending of Heavy Rain I got was pretty memorable
Ethan saves Shaun before he got gunned down by the cops, Madison got arrested outside the warehouse, Jayden never found Shaun (Madison tried to call Ethan earlier on) and Jayden therefore retired from the FBI, Shelby got away because Lauren died earlier.

Oh, and the ending of the movie "Saints and Soldiers"!

The end of Elfen Lied was bit of a cliffhanger so I remember that one very well, also Superbad, they got the girls! Yay! :D

But what did you think of the little epilogue bit?

Considering that Rorschach sent his journal to that newspaper, I believe that Veidt's plan was exposed and what really happened became apparant to the world. Whether the people accept his scheme as something necessary or not is something that I'm still contemplating.

Quarantine.
The film is pretty weird from the get go, but right at the end when they see the weird sentient creature... Then she gets dragged away into the dark. You get no closure never find out what the fuck everything is. Still bugs me =/
Have you seen Rec? its what quarantine is based on, pretty much just an english language remake, rec2 gives closure for rec1/quarantine, worth watching.

OT: in movies Gran Torino, Southland Tales and resevoir dogs.
In games, Kane and Lynch, both of those endings are heartbreaking

Endings like Death Note and TTGL's alternate ending where not everything's right usually stick with me just because it defies expectation. Then again, TTGL's actual ending was pretty much "everything is happily ever after despite literally 0% chance of even succeeding the initial step." Then again there is one thing in that ending that isn't "happily ever after"...
Mass Effect 1's ending still sticks with me. A very epic, cinematic ending. I think I fangasmed when my Shepard gave a forced smirk after, you know, taking on the universe and living.
All the ones that end on cliffhangers stick with me out of sheer hate. They're like scars.

The end of Oldboy is one of the most awesome things I've seen in my life. What a fantastic movie.

Endings that stick with me? I'd go with Cowboy Bebop cuase it's kind of introspective, Sin City cuase it's awesome, and Sluaghter House 5 cuase it's so freak'in odd. Oh, and the end of the album lateralus by tool, fuck'in creepy.

When he ends up getting executed. Was very sad. Probably the only movie that makes grown men cry ;D

Let's see, there's so many I could talk about.

Inland Empire. That one really stuck with me, som much I decided to watch the film again a day later. It was just... perfect. The right way to do it.

In movies: Blue Velvet - the picket fence / blue sky / flowers that link back to the way the film begins. Also, although I don't like the film, I think that Shakespeare In Love has a very powerful ending. Crane shots and monologues are just a great combination.

In television: The entire ending sequence of Avatar: The Last Airbender (and, obviously, the very last bit) is just terrific. Also, the final shot of Deep Space Nine where the camera just zooms out and out into space, leaving little Jake Sisko all alone in the universe without his Dad. Gets me every time.

In games: Might be obvious, but it's gotta be Final Fantasy. X, and in particular VIII, are just so moving that you'd have to be cold and dead not to have tears in your eyes. I was also suprised at how emotional the ending of Okami was - Issun's speech where he has to say goodbye to Amaterasu left me with bit of a lump in my throat...

It's been a little while since I read it and right now I'm distracted by Assassin's Creed 2 (only being able to play on weekends + having to share my PS3 + side quests + other games = slow progress), so right now, I'm not going to do a good job of remembering.

This. Although, that whole movie stays with me and constantly haunts me... especially at night, when I'm alone.

With books, Confessor's ending plagues my mind a lot, but that's only because of how annoyed I was at how it killed the series (although in retrospect, the series probably died after Faith of the Fallen).

EDIT: Just remembered Of Mice and Men. Now that was a good and powerful ending.
