Gar was unsure as to what to guard. Was he supposed to go to the gates, the barracks or a tower?
I suppose picking up a rifle and doing something atleast 'looks' like I know what I'm supposed to do...
Picking up the rifle, he felt it's full weight in his hands. Not just a hunk of metal, the machine he now held in his hands was a machine of death and destruction. He was holding the life and death, the future and promises of someone right there in his hands. What made him special enough to have that responsibility. To have the final saying in that fatal judgement.
Fuck it, the world is going to hell, might as well do as much good before I succomb to the inevetable
"Sir! Requesting permission to provide additional firing support from the pile of junk over there. I may be able to get a clear shot at some of the intruders over the wall"
Around 30 meters away from Gar was said pile. It was a heap of barrels, waste, used ammunition and empty crates. It was leaning up against the wall right next to the gate and was large enough for someone to jump over the gate. If someone was stupid enough for that was another matter.
