From what I saw the only England player actually playing that match was David James (I'm pretty sure he felt the same way).

Yea we were robbed the second goal and the dynamics may have been different if it had been allowed... but england never deserved to win after their performance throughout the entire tournament

I hate to be a grammar nazi...But please...Spell check. It makes for a much nicer reading experience.

And I personally thought that the better team won.

Why Heskey played in any matches I'll never know.

Ever since I watched Germany annihilate Australia a few weeks ago, they've been my top prediction for winning the cup. We (England) only barely scratched our way out of field matches and I'm really not surprised we were bested by Germany.

Maybe we could do with an English manager as no team has ever won the World Cup without a native manager. I'm not being racist in any way shape or form, but Capello's English dialect is poor and maybe an English manager would have a better connection and understanding with the team. Not to mention the ability to bellow out motivational speeches.

People who are laughing over England are idiots.

The blatant goal that the referee apparently 'missed' took England's spirits down. Y'never know if they would've win, but they might have.

They deserved the win, and I'm pretty sure a 2-2 rather than 2-1 score at half time wouldn't have made a difference, but I still think we should have had the goal.

I'm getting increasingly annoyed at the lack of electronic referees.

Well I guess it makes up for the 1966 final, where a goal was allowed for England that didn't really cross the line, turned out not to make the win by itself but may have affected the game enough to seal it.

But yeah, maybe it would have been different. It seemed like after that, the team completely surrendered, and only put any effort in once Germany threatened to reverse the 5-1 win in which many senior members of our current team played. Such a fuss was made of that result at the time, we really don't want Germany to beat us 5-1 back, least of all to knock us out of a tournament.

So yeah, I think the players decided that luck was against them for this game, pretty much gave up entirely and only tried to stop the goals when threatened with the embarrassment of losing 5-1 to Germany.

As most people have said, if the goal was allowed i think we would have seen a very different game. the German defence was almost as bad as ours, England scored 2 goals in the space of a minute (though one wasnt counted) so in that respect both teams had horrible defences.

The difference though was after the goal wasnt counted our forwards/midfielders lost momentum and we couldnt capitalise on the poor german defence, whereas the german forwards did take the chances that were given to them, and won deservedly.

The first half was amazing, i was ready to stop watching after their 2nd goal, and then we were right back in it... it was shaping up to be an epic match, and then the 2nd half was terrible and we got raped.

The better team deserved to win definately, but I'd rather lose 4-1 to Germany than get utterly battered 71-0 by Argentina. Their insane attack strength against Eng-er-lands defence would have made the battle of Trafalgar look like a close run thing.

England was strongest around the time their second goal wasn't given (around 37th minute or so). They absolutely dominated before (from the 30th minute onward) and after that goal. They dominated well into the second half and lost spirits around the 65th minute or so when Germany found their way back into the game. They were the better team from 30-65, but their wobbly defence really made them pay. I too think the game could have taken a few diferent turns (though I still think Germany showed enough will to win from a 2-2) but I really didn't see them 'surrendering'.

It's a shame that these things still happen, but that's football. Both teams showed promise, but Germany was stronger mentally and seemed to be fitter (especialy towards the end, like Ozil completely annihalating the defender for the 4-1).

Overall I'd say it was a great game. The best game of the cup so far. A must watch, even in the years to come.

I think if we had got the goal, then we could have picked up some more momentum and our morale would have been higher, so yes, we could have won. But ultimately our defence was total crap and Germany deserved to win.

I do feel kind of sorry for England, but then again even that one goal not being disallowed wouldn't really have made their overall perfomance less disappointing. I was hoping for a real fight for goals because I always had England in mind as a really strong team and Germany hadn't done that well in the WC so far, but somehow that never happened.

I might or might not be saying that only because I'm German and still cheering a bit inside now and then.

I thought Lampard played well.

Or at least my more football-savvy mates told me he did, so I'll take their word for it. A goal, and a couple of decent shots on goal and one non-goofed free kick.

But yeah, even with the 2 goals that we DID score, we probably would have been beaten, the Germans were far too fast for us on those counter attacks :( Even I could see it was shite defense.

Also, is it too much to ask that we have an English manager? Or is no Englisman up to it? I know very little bout footy, so I can't help but wonder...

I'm part Scottish and England were a bunch of dicks to the Scottish, so I'm pretty much on your level here.

I'm just glad that everyone's gonna shut the fuck up about the World Cup now...god I fucking hate fooball

Well it is no worse than the Ireland and France game really. It might of made a difference mentally which might of helped it also could of made things a lot worse.

I don't know if we would have won if that goal was allowed but it definitely would have made for a far more interesting game and probably better play by the england side.

We should have had our goal allowed and the marksman should have realised one of the german goals where quite largely offside, so dissallowed.

However, in the 90mins I think their was only a 10 minute period of England playing well, then we crumbled and deserved to get obliterated by a much better working team. Well done Germany.

I really should be supporting England but I already know that at one point or another they'll cock it up. Their previous matches proved that.
Wow. I was right. You know? Like the last 3 times I predicted that.

I had predicted a 3-1 win for Germany.

Damn Germans had to score once more.
My mate made the same prediction.

OT: It was morale for me. If the linesman, who wasn't even in a position to make a claim, disallowed England's goal, then that brought down the game for me. Football being the only sport without slow-mo replays thus far (Ignoring any sports outside of the UK.)
