Well if they make them available again for a short while then stop they are still limited >.>

To be honest I've been through this with the killing floor and people wanting to get one of the skins that was an preorder bonus of some other game back. Basically ya the fanbase grew, the skin became super rare because most people that had it quit years ago and you have tons of new players that want it.

I get it and it's cool that they are reimbursing and doing something cool for the people that bought them back then but satisfying the many is a lot better then keeping the few happy. It sucks not having something because you weren't around at the right time and everyone deserves an extra chance or to.

It's not like it's something that can be traded or sold by the owners anyway.

Maybe they could make it so the limited skins could be resold on the market, set up a system where you can unbound the skin from your profile and trade it. This way the skins are still limited in number but still in circulation much like real collectors stuff. Probably be a nightmare to set up though.

They are not re-releasing any skins that had to be earned or anything, merely skins that were temporarily made available during Halloween or the Holidays. Nothing to get up in arms about. Most of them are unimpressive skins, so the only value to them is the "I have this and you don't b/c limited." So it might be a bit of a bummer for the folks who bought them then, but they've been reimbursed for any perceived slights, and there's still a distinction between the new and old skins. If Riot reintroduced any skins that needed to be earned or were given as a reward for things like beta participation or ranked gameplay, that'd be a different story (no matter how much I'd like to get the Bowser skin for Rammus).

You know, or maybe the industry should simply stop feeding these special-snowflake ego trips in the first place...

Just saying.

Considering the wide variety of skins that had been closed down after awhile some of them might have an argument. For example if someone bought a skin that was a "limited edition" under the impression that it wouldnt be released again they most definitely have a point because its supposed to only be open for the people that bought it during that run. To do otherwise is breaking a verbal contract with the patrons who bought them and whether you like it or not they are entitled to the skins being exclusive

On the other hand if nothing like that was ever stated I really dont see an issue

i think that's more of a societal problem, then an industry one.

Well I'm just happy that I can finally get Kitty Katarina, seeing as how I missed it by not even have been playing the game when it was released. That pretty much sums up my entire feelings on the matter.

Though I kinda don't get why people are getting all up in arms about their skins not being "Teh precious Limited Edition" anymore. Riot's only offering the skins again for another month, so they're still Limited Time Only, it's just that another window has been opened. Then again, I buy/obtain things because I like them, not so that I can claim I'm one of the few that has them, so maybe the Limited Time Only loving mind-set is simply too alien for me to understand.

It should remain exclusive. They made players shell out extra cash for this promising that they would be the only ones to have it then went back on their word. Like I see people with exclusive things in game, and I'm guilty of wanting it, but I would still understand and side with the people who paid extra for the thing and the right to keep it exclusive/limited as the names emplied when it was purchased.

I disagree. A lot of people enjoy being able to prove they were fans from the beginning, or have some sort of accomplishment or anything that makes them stand out from the crowd. Its similar to having a high postcount on this very site, or why the rares sell for max cash in MMO's like Runescape.

If anyone here has any experience with the oldschool runescape servers they would know that the rares mean nothing on them because everybody and their mum has one now. I would understand perfectly if they at least wanted a refund for the skins now that they are out again as half the reason most people probably bought them is useless now.

Yes, because hardship is the most enjoyable part of life :|

It's a dickmove and the most easiest way to alienate your fan base. I wouldn't have complained about it but it would have gone down in my history books as being a bad idea.

Depends how angry people are getting, some forum complaining is fine and might be justified if they where a limited issue thing thats now unlimited. If its got the rape and death threats stage as these things seem to do lately then some people really need to calm down and sort themselves out.

I feel that both sides are in the wrong on this one. People who got the skins first are getting a summoner icon showing that they got them first.

At the same time though if Riot did promise that these skins would never be back after the first time I can see that being a blow to their integrity.

As with many others:

If it's a LIMITED EDITION skin, you don't go and re-sell it. People get limited edition things because they are only available for a short time, are most likely special and it's something that not many other people have.

If they are going to make it unlimited, then anyone should be free to a refund. Now, I know these are just skins. I find this stupid too. But the business practice of making something LIMITED is the problem here. People are going to be more likely to get that limited edition gun, because it's the one time they CAN get it, and so sales would be higher than usual. So what Riot has does is:

"Here, have a limited edition skin!"

MONEYZ!

"Wait... because it's limited... we can't sell any more? RE-RELEASE!"

It's against the very idea of a limited edition thing. Whilst I find it stupid because it's a skin that has NO effect, I find the LIMITED part to be a problem. Riot shouldn't be doing this. I mean, bloody hell, it's a skin, just make a new one. Or, you know, don't? They are skins. Literally no effect on anything.
But each skin will still be limited, since they're only being sold for a month each reflecting the time frame the originals came out in.

Effectively it's the same as reprinting of other rare items which is a common as hell practice in collectible markets after a surge in popularity of a brand.

Frankly... I'm just getting tired of these gimmicky rewards as a whole in gaming. I know this is entirely opinion-based, but it just feels cheap, like a used car salesman trying to sell you all kinds of useless overpriced doodads for a car. Developers and publishers keep facilitating it, and gamers keep buying it up and financially supporting it.

While I agree with the spirit of what you're saying, i.e. complaining about other people having useless, cosmetic items is dumb, your post was a bit poorly conducted. I now must vent my frustrations. Please feel free to read none of this.

For one, knock off the buzzwords. The second you say "entitled" I think less of your arguments. No one you mentioned is acting entitled about anything. They're complaining that others shouldn't get something for free that they worked for.

Second, this:

Is just silliness. It's stupidly common for people to resort to the "They're just children" tactic. You know absolutely nothing about these people. For all you know, the people complaining HAVE been through incredible harships and as a result, have shorter tempers. Don't make assumptions either way.

Finally, everyone complains about insignificant things now and then. If we as humans try to take the whole of everything into account when judging things, everything we do is insignificant whining. Perspective and keeping things relative is extremely important. Small things can seem important whether it be in a video game or somewhere else.

I've been playing League for the last few years and personally I own none of the skins being re-released due to the fact that while I was playing a lot when they were released I was still hesitant to purchase them, didn't think I would be playing long enough. The only reason I still play is because it is a blast to play with friends, not into playing with random people.

I have mixed feelings about the re release. On the one hand it is cool to be able to purchase some skins that I really feel I missed out on back when I didnt understand the whole "limited" thing. On the other hand its unfair to those who purchased these limited time skins. I will say this though. Riot is bringing back skins that are holiday themed and last christmas (2012) they actually re-released the previous Christmas' skins (2011). So there is a precedent for this kind of thing. Riot stated that they were not bring back older holiday skins from 2009, but its not like this was entirely a surprise.

That being said I am VERY dissappointed with the skins released to celebrate the World Cup and the Vancouver Winter Olympics being made available again. I own none of them and I think those skins should NEVER become available for ANY reason. Those were for a very specific event, the Winter Olympics in Vancouver especially.

Ha! Jokes on them, "noobs" already have their precious LE skins, it's just a question of if a new batch will have access to them or not.

Seriously, watch me play fiddle just to show off his pumpkin skin, and cry at how bad i am :p

People are entitled to be disappointed, and vent their frustration with Riot. Riot reneged on their original position. I don't see why they need to be called names for expressing that disappointment.

I think the only LE skin I ever bought was Scorpion Shen. It was only a recolor, but how cool it was! I admit, I'd be a little sad if that got rereleased. No idea if it's going to be/is. At the end of the day, I don't care that much, though.

However, I don't think it's entitled. They were told the skins would be limited edition, and Riot apparently lied. That's reason to be upset. Although, since they're giving players vintage loading portraits and their RP back AND summoner icons, yeah... okay, maybe there actually IS a little entitlement there.
