Entrenched in The Console Wars!

I'm wondering in general as to why anyone at all chooses sides in The Console Wars.

I'll start by saying that I think the idea is quite silly actually. I have all three consoles and I can't say I like any one more than the others. I can say I use my 360 the most for gaming, the PS3 the most for media, and the Wii... well I use it and I like it, I just don't use it as much as I would like.

So my first question is: If you have enough money to own more than one console, why would you "choose sides" with one console or the other?

I've seen PS3 owners bashing truly good 360 games and the only thing I can think is that they are jealous, or in this case, too immature to buy both consoles and have ALL the games they like. The same can be said for 360 owners of course, if you need to see examples of this kind of behaviour, check out the recent bullshot that happened on Metacritic. Xbox fanboys gave thousands of poor reviews to LBP, and in retaliation, Sony fanboys did the same to Gears 2. Or the other way around, I honestly don't know who started it, but either way they're all idiots. Or another example of truly rediculous fanboy-ism, check out sonydefenseforce.com.

Then we have the average gamer: Too poor to own all the consoles. I was this way before. And in reality I still am. I only own a Wii, and my roomates own the 360 and PS3, but the point is I have full access to and like all of them.

So when faced with a financial situation that forces that choice to be made, I present to you my second question: What factors into you choice of console purchase?

With me, it would be which console has the most games I like. Which would be the 360. I've seen people make this decision based on some kind of silly "company loyalty," and wonder why they would do something like that. In the last generation of consoles, I was Sony all the way. The PS2 had ALL the games I wanted to play and the Xbox had almost none. So my first choice was obviously the PS2. This generation the roles have switched, The 360 has almost every game I want to play, and since I love playing online, the Xbox and it's Live service are at the top of my list. I'm not gonna buy a PS3, with its very short list of games I care about, just because I loved the PS2.

So here's the last question: What's your thoughts on The Console Wars?

It's especially hillarious that the Sony fanboy site you posted has an Xbox 360 banner ad at the top of the page.

As for the console wars, I occasionally partake in a skirmish. Sort of fun, great way to blow off anger and make yourself feel superior. Most fanboys are such morons.

I really don't know why people do this. It seems like any time factions start to compete against each other in ANYTHING, the followers of those factions seem to find reasons why their faction is the BESTEST EVAR!!!! And the others are all just inferior. On the console front, it's the same way. I own a Wii, and I like it. It's a fun console to own. Most of its good games are not rated M, and that's a good thing for people like me who have parents who are restrictive. It might turn off some others, but people bash it for this all the time and I don't know why. LBP and Resistance 2 look awesome. Gears 2 and Fable 2 look good as well. Nintendo's got nothing good coming soon, which kind of ticks me off. This bickering over "my console can kick your console's ass!" is just childish.

Coming from someone who is too poor to afford both (the Wii just doesn't do it for me, but that's personal preference) it all boiled down to which console had the majority of games I like or had the potential to like and that was the Xbox 360. I got nothing against the PS3 and I am green with envy over Little Big Planet, but I'll have to wait til I can afford one to partake of its goodness. In the meantime, there are too many other games I can enjoy.

I think if people are happy with their choice in console, rejoice! Just don't bash others who have chosen differently. Heaps of people love the Wii but I don't go around telling them they're stupid for liking it. They could just as easily say I'm stupid for not liking it. Viva la difference.

I own both a PS3 and a 360. But I am a ps3 fanboy and I loath my 360 with the only good thing about it being Fable 2 really. While I am looking so far ahead for ps3 rpgs and the classed based multi-player of KZ2.

Also I really like how ps3 multi-player games are. For example MGO feels nothing like a normal shooter. And thats what makes me like it more then most other MP.

Killzone 2 is something else like it. If what they say is true then think of a gritty TF2 where you can splice classes.

Resistance 2 and its phenomnal Co-Op..Decent MP.

There is no console war. The only people who give a crap about which console is best are the fanboys.

PS3 has undoubtably the best hardware although suffers in terms of amount of games and pricing.
360 has nice specs and a wide range of games as well as the best online support but notable reliability issues.
Wii has the worst hardware but has the best games for when they're beer and friends. Maybe not so fun when you're on your own?

That's not a console war, it's like a console Venn diagram.

Console war is for the interweb forums (though Ps3 is hella ugly :-D); the pricing war is another matter. If inclined I could go to Zavvi & get a 60gb x360 with fable II, Fifa09 & another game on it for £210. Thats why it wins for me :) (least till Zavvi ends that offer which I hope they dont soon coz I want it :-D)

I was never anything approaching a fanboy until this gen: I had a PS2 and saw the merits of the XBox. Then I owned an XBox and found I used it far more than the PS2, though there were still games I loved on the PS2.
This gen I started with a 360, mainly because that's the one that launched first. I still greatly prefer it to my PS3, and will back the 360 in any 360 vs. PS3 argument because I geniunely believe it's the better product to own. The main thing the PS3 has going for it as far as my purposes are concerned is blu-ray movies (note: NOT blu-ray as an overall media format, because I think it's bad for games and the four to ten gig installs seem to agree with me) and while admittedly the three blu-ray movies I've watched on my HDTV are stunning visually, it's still a largely overrated feature.

I don't care what other people buy, that's up to them. I don't care what games other people buy, that's up to them.
If only everyone else would cut me the same slack, because I'm tired of being told I'm douchebag because I enjoyed Halo 3.

To me, picking a favorite console in a console cycle is as essential as picking a favorite team when you watch a sport. To me, it makes it better, regardless of the outcome. Though I try not to be blinded by fanboy thoughts. Im primaraly a Nintendo fan, but I also like the 360. I disagree with people getting PS3s because I don't think Sony is seeing games in the right prisum, but I wish good luck for whoever gets one that it will be worth their money. And now for my viewpoints of the consoles.

I have a Wii. I wish Nintendo put some more focus on veteren gamers, or attracted more veteren developers, but it was good for $250. Plus the Wii-mote attachment may be a saving grace to get more veteren games onboard. But even if it does not, Nintendo toke a step in the right direction. Just seeing the improvement of Metroid Prime 3 over the original is eveidence enough. Overall, I like the Wii.

I have a 360. I got no problem with the console itself. while it does not try to be as revolutionary as the Wii attempted too, I got no problem playing games in a classical manner. I disagree with me having to pay for an internet service that uses per-to-per servers and has a plethera of advertisements in the marketplace and dashboard. So i think Microsoft is full of asses, but the game developers more than make up for it. Nothing really original about the system, but its still good. I like the 360 more than the Wii as systems, but I prefer Nintendo over Microsoft as companies.

I don't own a PS3, and don't plan on getting one, so take this with a grain of salt. The system has literally no exclusives I care about. I have seen the lists. That is not an over exageration. I disagree with Sony's approach to gaming, giving the impression that it is all about hardware, at least that is how I see it. Sure, processing speed is great, but why does it have to put such a huge focus on graphic and blue-ray disk usage. For whatever reason, graphics or content, I don't mind playing a game with 2 or more disks. In summary, I think the hardware is overpowered(a term I have not used sence my WoW days), I disagree wth Sony's direction, and it has no games to change my mind. I dont hate Sony with every bone in my body, but I think it needs to get its act together.

And a minor complaint about both Sony and Microsoft(and I guess Nintendo if that new DS gets over to NA). Stop trying to make game systems multimedia systems. I buy your systems for games. Not movies, music, music videos, or anything else I can't think off. Focus on the games again. Microsoft, the amount of time you spend negotiating business deals with music companies can be used to negotiate video game deals. The storage space you use for all those TV series can be used for more video game content, or sold to put more money into your 2nd party developers.

I don't know it seems kind of silly. I own a ps2 gamecube dreamcast 360 and a couple others and I don't choose by brand I choose a console by what kind of games it has to offer me. I love my ps2 and 360 because I have a good selection of games to choose from.

I find it funny that PS360 owners rant and rave about their console sales and attach rates and who knows what else. When the Wii is kicking both their butts.

Over the weeked at my Target they sold 2 PS3s and 7 360s lol fanboys would jump at something like that.......... We sold 185 Wiis in those same 2 days. 185! . So question where are the Wii fanboys? Because I never here from them(around here at least)

That aside I just own a 360 cause its cheap and the online is great even if you have to pay 2 dollars a month for it.

well, a lot of this comes from only being able to acquire one console, and the vashing of other consoles is a measure of justification.

I personally only own a (broken) 360, but I can say that I prefer it, because it's all I've ever played regularly. Hand me a PS3 or Wii, and I'll likely be disappointed.

[img_inline caption="Networked PS3s can do Real-Time Radiosity, Mothertruckers."]http://www.geomerics.com/images/enlighten-sdkimage.jpg[/img_inline]Yeah, I have to fanboyishly agree that Yahtzee is right, all of the consoles are extremely equal and it only depends on what you want from a console to dictate which one is "best" for you.
The Wii is fun and cheap, the PS3 is a powerhouse, and the Xbox 360 is your apprentice of all, master of none.

The console wars really aren't as entrenched as people make them out to be.

Considering I own a 360 and PS3, I no longer have to fight in the console wars, its not that i think the Wii is stupid I just don't want to buy one, here in the land of peace and cooperation, all is good, all is fun. Plus now I can laugh at all the bickering and fanboydom

Everyone says the PS3 is a powerhouse, but the GPU in it is a complete joke (the same goes for the Xbox 360...and of course, the Wii).
i think he means more so than the other systems

i like a few games from each console, but i never really became a fan of the "hits"
halo 3 or gears of war were supposed to be the most fun on the 360, but i had more fun with Lost Planet than halo 3
i don't even really know what games are supposed to be well known for ps3 other than killzone, but LBP is amazing and the only game i own for it
i generally like all the wii games i have. even if the game is terrible, people find joy in madly shaking a stick at their screen. probably why wii is winning in sales..
i just go between systems when im in the mood. i try not to get completely lost in video games, i guess that gives me a more moderate opinion
