"When I joined the Corps, we didn't have any fancy-schmanzy tanks. We had sticks! Two sticks, and a rock for the whole platoon—and we had to share the rock! Buck up, boy, you are one very lucky marine!"

Sargent Johnson has a thing for speeches...

Epic real life speech from the Battle of the Bulge:

German General Heinrich Freiherr von Lüttwitz: your Surrounded, we demand your surrender.

Anthony McAuliffe, Yank commander of the 101st: "Nuts"

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender,

Come on how could no one have remembered Churchill

Oh I remember it, but for the sake of making sure it's right, i'm just copying and pasting the awesomeness into here:

We shall fight on the beaches speech

I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once more able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.

Even though large parts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the Old .

This was their finest hour speech (The ending is the only great bit in my opinion)

What General Weygand has called the Battle of France is over. I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin. Upon this battle depends the survival of Christian civilization. Upon it depends our own British life, and the long continuity of our institutions and our Empire. The whole fury and might of the enemy must very soon be turned on us. Hitler knows that he will have to break us in this island or lose the war. If we can stand up to him, all Europe may be freed and the life of the world may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands.

But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new dark age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science. Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour.'

Never was so much owed speech (only put one paragraph from the speech, this is the main part)

The gratitude of every home in our Island, in our Empire, and indeed throughout the world, except in the abodes of the guilty, goes out to the British airmen who, undaunted by odds, unwearied in their constant challenge and mortal danger, are turning the tide of the World War by their prowess and by their devotion. Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. All our hearts go out to the fighter pilots, whose brilliant actions we see with our own eyes day after day?

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother; be never so vile.
This day shall gentle his condition.
And gentlemen in England now abed shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks that fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day!
-William Shakespeare; Henry V.

This is more of an pre-epic dogfight "prayer", but it's the best scene (by Col. T.C. McQueen, of course) from Space: Above and Beyond, another great sci-fi show killed by Fox before its time:

(The good stuff starts at about 1:15)

MCQUEEN: "With all due respect, Chaplain, I don't think our Maker wants to hear from me right now, because He knows I'm going to go out in that sky in this plane, and remove one of His creations from His universe. And when I return, I'm going to drink a bottle of scotch, as if it were Chiggy Von Richtofen's blood, and celebrate his death."

CHAPLAIN: "Amen."

Babylon 5 had a lot of speeches too, but a lot were hit or miss. Probably because Delenn got the best one (more of a threat than a speech) in 3rd season and all the ones after that were a lame attempt to be as cool:

Honestly, none of them have been very good in games. Voice acting isn't yet respected enough to really try to get people to pull out the stops and give us a truly epic speech, and our technical ability to animate the kinds of emotions and expressions that occur in an epic battle speech isn't quite there yet.

There have been some good attempts, but nothing that I really thought was comparable to speeches from epic movies.
