The end of Watchmen, where everything is known, and Rorschach

gets ripped apart by Dr. Manhattan

As was already said, Faramir's ride on Osgiliath. I'd also say the last ride of the Rohirrim at Minas Tirith as well as when Legolas kill the Oliphaunt single-handedly.

Faramir charging at the orc-captured city, while pippin sings for the king (LotR)
Shit yeah. Staying on LOTR for a minute, the entire sequence of Frodo and Sam climbing Mount Doom...it is absolutely criminal that Sean Astin didn't even get nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Though the other 11 Oscars sort of make up for it...

One scene that always gives me chills is in The Rock,
when Nicolas Cage is on his knees waving the signal flares to abort the bombing run. I'm referring to the specific 2-second clip where the camera is behind him and it shows the bomber formation splitting off over his head.
Michael Bay might not direct any deep plots, but his camerawork and epic direction make up for it.

The dark knight when the prisoner guy goes to get the detonator and then he throws it out the window. I can't explain, it was just moving
Oooh and "I want my father back you son of a *****"
Oh and definately the speech in independence day "We will not vanish without a fight!!"

Oliphant charge in LOTR ROTK is my favourite. Although, as a lot of other people have realised, there are a helluva lot of quality epic moments in LOTR.
Also to name a few off the top of me head:
First battle in gladiator.
Last battle in gladiator.
Battle between Hector and Achilles in Troy.
Matrix scene where Neo stops the bullets.
The Patriot when Mel Gibson saves his son in the woods.

My idea of "epic" basically translates as "violence", you may have noticed...

The bank shoot-out in Heat.

All of Gladiator.

The main car-chase in Ronin. (when they "get" the case)

--When Johnny Depp gives the speech about where you can look west and almost see the point where "the wave broke, and rolled back" in Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas
--When DeNiro "saves" Jonathan Pryce at the end of Brazil
--Javier Bardim chasing Josh Brolin from the hotel through the city in No Country For Old Men
--The entire film of Paths Of Glory

Shitloads really, apart from some of the obvious (the LOTR scenes, Matrix, Braveheart, The Last Samurai) I really really really like this scene in Wanted:

Edit: what's wrong with the youtube linking? Ain't it the code behind the watch?v= that you have to put between the youtube tags or am I just crazy?

I disagree with all of the 'LOTR' ones because half of the "epic scenes" were completely made up for the films and felt really out of place for the story. There were Epic moments, but few were during the huge battles.

'Fight Club' I agree with.
'Gladiator' I agree with.
Although I didn't dislike the film "This is Sparta!" is the movie equivilant of "The Cake is a Lie" as far as I am concerned.

I'd like to add: The scene of 'The Dark Knight' where the Joker is talking to the criminal leaders and does the whole "magic trick" thing, or in fact all of Ledgers' scenes in the film.

Most of the scenes involving Frank in 'Donnie Darko'.
