Call me sceptical but pulling support after the bill is defeated isn't really admirable.

'Hey, did you hear, the Nazis have lost'

'Hmm, well, I suppose I better stop supporting them then'

Yes, I invoked Godwin's Law.

You're welcome.

SOPA is dead in the water at this point, ofcourse there going to abandon ship. Come on now, they want to at least have some supporters and relevance in the industry for when the next bill comes along.

You know, for once the internet is actually united against this bill. It's like users have forgotten the normal petty squabbles that usually occur to stand up against SOPA. But now that there's talk of shelving and supporters pulling out, the internet's gonna be back to normal.....Yeah ¬.¬

As for ESA, well, it was only a matter of time. They were pissing off their customers and a considerable amount of companies were against it. Consider this a win in Video Game history.
Frankly, I prefer it that way. All the stupidity of SOPA/PIPA makes going on the internet awkward because it's (rightfully) talked about everywhere. For once, I'd like to log into The Escapist and see nothing on any sort of bill or something similar that will threaten internet livelihood. I can't even remember the last time I did something like that. :\

We won what? ESA bailed after SOPA was shelved. Also, SOPA isn't done. Last I heard the people behind it are now working to get it into other bills, since that's how it works in the USA. You can pass almost anything if you make it a part of something else. I remember reading that they're trying to include SOPA (or a SOPA equivalent) into some new child pornography law. Yeah, I can see people lining up to vote against child porn laws...
I always thought that was incredibly stupid. Why the hell can you just tack your bill onto the back of something else? It's ridiculous.

They pushed 190,000 dollars to lobbyists trying to get these fucking bills passed, and now they decide "Herp a derp, let's drop support" even when the bill's pretty much dead- er, postponed indefinitely. I'll wait till SOPA's successor (God forbid) comes around, then the ESA will pretty much be on their knees just waiting to suck lobbyist dick.

That's a really dirty trick.

LRR was going to protest E3. If people who are that awesome were willing to skip out the biggest gaming conference of the year over this, they could bet others would follow. SOPA is done but it isn't over. Stay vigilant internet.

This is nothing more than a cock slap to the face. Lets see if they still discontinue support to future iterations then I might give a shit about the ESA. Fucking fair weather twats.

I dunno they are trying to pass it through Energy and Commerce and it is quite vague and not actually against child pornography as the cut off point is 12 years old. That means pictures of naked 14 year olds is fine so I don't see the bill gaining massive support but I also don't think it will be as vehemently opposed.

Doesn't really mean we won, just that they are going to lay low for a while and wait till there is less attention on the bill.

As for ESA, probably should have done it when it counted.

As many above me have said, this means nothing. They pulled their support (sorta) after the bill was already all-but-dead in an attempt to salvage a little bit of reputation, which if you ask me makes them look even more scummy. If you believe in something like SOPA, at least have some integrity and stick to your beliefs.

When the next bullshit internet censorship bill comes along, probably tucked inside the "child porn" one which in itself is incredibly vague, draconinan, and wide reaching and does very little, if anything, to combat child porn, if the ESA stands in opposition to it, then they'll have regained some decency.

Man, this would make for the BEST movie ever. I'm wondering if this whole shananigan is the biggest internet drama series ever, or has there been worse that I'm unaware of! Anyone know?
There was the GeoHotz vs Sony shananigan, thought there was less poeple involved there was internet people supporters in both sides rather than big companies vs internet people as in this case.

On topic:

Future news: ESA retakes SOPA support once E3 finised with great success. Tells gamers to go f*** themselves.

Meh, they know SOPA is done in it's current form and are trying to save face.
Yep. This is a completely hollow act by the ESA; basically saying "Well, now that everyone on the internet has shown support against this thing, we've been against it from the beginning. Secretly."

Total Bull.

If and when SOPA comes back, if the ESA continue to not support SOPA, it'll mean something.
Now that, I'd drink to. Hopefully it'll be more "if" than "when", otherwise we might need that drink.

Guess this means SOPA is pretty much dead then. There's still ACTA to look out for but I do believe this counts as a...
