Social Network was directed well, but it was a boring movie.

So, maybe three films coming up that I'm looking forward to?
I was expecting a bucket load of remakes and sequels, and it looks like I'll get just that. Joy.
And Bob, all you did there was prove that David Fincher makes awesome films out of original(ish) premises. A remake of a very popular, very good and very successful film is below him. He gets minus 1000 respect points for that move. I'm actually begging people not to go and see that, because Hollywood will keep fuelling these remakes until American xenophobia stops buying them. Don't do it, and frankly, I don't care if it ruins Fincher's career in the process (although I understand that he's a fantastic director, and this film will make studios richer than Croesus).

You've got a point. But it's not just that it's an American remake, I'm skeptical because of the circumstances in it's production. If they can prove that they've kept some of the contravesial themes and that they can keep Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara from taking their shirts off for no reason, then I'm willing to give it a chance.tautologico said:

Plus I'm one of the few people who seemed to hate Daniel Craig as James Bond, it wiped out all the good will that built up after Layer Cake. I know loads of people loved the new take on Bond but I ain't one of them. I'm kind of scared that he might end up doing the same thing to Blomkvist, who always struck me as kind of a silver tongued intellectual rather than a beefed up CQC bad ass. It was the contrast between him and Salander that made the books so engaging. I just don't want to see a character I love get butchered on screen. I went through it with James Bond, I don't wanna go through it again here.
That being said, I'm cautiously optimistic about Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander. Porno poster aside, she looks like she's really getting into the role.
So I'm kind of on the fence. I'd love the movie to be good, but I don't think it will be.
Girl with the dragon tattoo is the only movie on that list that I'm willing to pay to see in the theaters.

I think that out of all the films you mentioned Bob, Hugo is the one I'm looking forward to the most. A family adventure film from the director of The Departed with one of the best sets I've ever seen in a film, a plot surrounding the pioneer of film visual effects plus the combined acting talent of Mordred from the Merlin TV series, Hit Girl, Borat, Gandhi, Beowulf, Dr Watson, Saruman, Narcissa Malfoy and Vernon Dursley. Everything that I love in films.
That mission impossible comment came out of nowhere, if you ask me. Not that you didn't like it, that's your opinion. But that nobody cares about them? Bobby, a lot of people like those movies. Including me.

Miss Dragon Tattoo.... I'd be interested if I hadn't already seen the original films. I LOVE Fincher but Noomi Rapace is and will always be in my mind when I think about the girl with the dragon tattoo. that's just how it is! watching this seems redundant, I KNOW the story now!

Two things bugged me about this one.
1: Mission Impossible 1 was good. The rest were really ... meh... quality action movies, but the first was an actual thriller action that did work. (and it did spawn one of the better video games for the N64 imo)
2: it's pronounced "stIEg larson", not Steig. If you're having trouble finding the sound of the name, it's the same sound as in steed. just insert the ee sound and you're set.

Way to miss the most important one, Bob! David Cronenberg and his muse, Mortensen, in a Freudian/Jungian drama-thriller called A Dangerous Method. It's gonna be sweeeeeeet.
Also, as for 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' (original title: 'Män som hatar kvinnor', which is translated to 'Men Who Hate Women', but whatever): The original book was terribly written with faux-deep characters who had the perception of depth due to some funny idiosyncrasies. Amusing, but ultimately shallow and meaningless. The film, of course, was no better. If anything, the quasi-feminism of the book was completely subverted by the spreading the terrible rape-scene over the big screen.
Not even Fincher can possibly save what is, fundamentally, a badly construed story. The best we can hope for is that it doesn't end his career.

Gary Oldman as the second best British spy of all time? (Bond is not number one, Harry Palmer is.) That should be awesome, Oldman must have been terrified of comparisons to Alec Guinness. I wonder if he signed a three film deal so they can do the whole Karla trilogy? I am assuming it will be set in the past like the books?

Hell, when I saw the trailer, the first thing that came to mind was "remake", not "prequel". This kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I know it's hard to gleam much from a two-minute preview, but I hope the prequel has a voice of its own.
