Nope. Nicholas Cage as The Riddler. I personally hope that, if the Joker makes another appearance, that it will be limited to something similar to The Scarecrow's appearance in Dark Knight, AKA a transitionary cameo.
ok I'm down with that. I don't think the Joker should ever be a "cameo" though. He is like the main bad guy.

True, but it's so hard for me to cope with the idea of anyone else even attempting to play the joker. In my mind no one will ever be right for it. But you're right, the joker is too central to the Batman franchise to get dismissed like the Scarecrow was. I guess I'll just have to let Christopher Nolan make these tough decisions and trust his judgement - that is until the movie comes out, then I'll be a judgmental bastard.

Why is everyone pissed at Bob because they didn't like it. He said you might not like it.
I'm going to watch it but I expect it to be like [i/]The Final Cut[/i] with Robin Williams, not terribly amazing but it was very WTF memorable.

For what it's worth, I severely doubt we'll see Joker again in any capacity in the current "run" of Batman movies. That clearly wasn't the plan, his final dialogue in "Dark Knight" is clearly setting up an ongoing confrontation with Batman... but that dialogue was written for a still-living Heath Ledger. Even if they were to try it, what actor worth anything is going to volunteer his body for the innevitable flaying he's gonna take no matter how good he is? If he's anything less-than-perfect, people will have a cow, and even if he's good no one will want to admit it for fear of disrespecting the dead. It's a lose-lose, no one in their right mind is gonna go for that. I'd be very, VERY surprised if we saw a new Joker... at least not until there's a new Batman, too.

Which, incidentally, IS going to happen. I don't think we'll see more than one more Batman movie in the Begins/Knight continuity, and at this point I doubt that Nolan will direct #3 (he'll produce and work on the script, someone working "under" him will direct) because, again, another lose-lose scenario: TDK's massive success was a once-in-a-lifetime thing that won't be duplicated, which means that #3 is almost-garaunteed to not be as huge of a hit, which means that it'd go from "Nolan is the Bat-master!" to "Has Nolan lost it?" With someone else directing, he wins either way - if it's good: "Good call, Chris!" If not, "Man, I guess Nolan WAS the key!"

Either way, I'd imagine that most of the main cast (including Bale) will be gone after Part 3 and there'll be new people playing Batman etc. It's NOT going to be like Bruce Timm and Paul Dini's DC Animated Universe, where a mostly-consistent cast and crew keeps a single continuity going through five interlocking series over 20 years... not gonna happen. MAYBE Warner Bros. will get the idea that you don't need to reboot an origin again and they'll just keep things going in a vauge sort-of continuity like the original Bond movies. But at that point, I think, is when you'll see a new Joker.

etc. --snipped--
If Nolan produces the third and moves on, maybe that's for the best: what's kept Batman relevant for so long is the fact that the core idea is so sturdy that it can survive numerous reboots, in the heritage of comics and film. It's such a pity because seeing Nolan, Ledger, Bale et. al. continue what's begun would be a dream franchise - too good to be true I suppose.

But will new generations of film goers be as entranced by Ledger's performance as we were, experiencing it in the immediate wake of his tragic passing? Only time will tell. Maybe there is someone out there who is as talented AND has the capability to mime Ledger's precedent (as heretical as that seems to us now) that this continuity could have continued life. I remember vividly a time when I thought no one, especially not Ledger, would be able to surpass the standard set by Nicholson. Time marches on and demands new performances.

As a resident of New Orleans, I can say with certainty that the portrayal of a corrupt, morally evil, drug addicted, drunk on power police officer would be an accurate portrayal of *every* New Orleans police officer. I hope I get the chance to see this movie, I just hope they don't do the Hollywood thing and make Cage's character redeem himself at the end, seeing as every New Orleans cop I've ever seen is far beyond redemption.

"His soul is still dancing!"

Love it. I'd go so far to say that this is the best movie I've seen in a theater all year. Probably since the Dark Knight, really.

uggh, Nicholas Cage. I hate him so much. I refuse to see any of his movies after the last few where he does the same Freaking role every time. Nicholas Cage, cut your damn hair. You're like 40 something, grow up a little bit.

The abominable choice of Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia is the one thing that makes me cry and night.

I don't get why so many people think Cage is a terrible actor. I totally agree with Bob. Nic Cage is perfect for crazy roles like this.
BTW Bob, you're never gonna let The Blind Side go, right?

Morons, idiots and people whacked out on drugs, that's who.
Yeah ok I guess you could be an asshole about it. It will solve so many things.
Besides if you'd actually read the posts, you would have seen that we decided he would be better suited for the Riddler.

Invictus was quite good. Morgan Freeman is always as good actor though.
