I am surprised movie bob dose not hate so irrationally on fantasy stuff....solidstatemind said:Dude, he spent more than half the review saying "Yeah, it's a bible; just a bible. He's on a mission from God" in an incredulous 'How stupid is that?' voice. He devoted about one sentence for each character. It's pretty clear that the entire movie was spoiled for him by the premise, and as I said above, even if you don't believe in God, why should that impact your ability to watch a film about faith and its power? Nothing there saying that YOU have to believe in it.Nazrel said:I'm not sure why some people seem to think movie bob is being anti-religious, or why they seem to think that there's something wrong with focusing on a plot in a review.
He did mention the characters and acting.
He said they were one note, and underused respectively. With cliche universe, and straightforward banal plot. A pathetic and shallow attempt at the Faux profound, an empty shell with no true depth or substance.
At least that's how read it.
He's not promoting burning crosses.
i hate to say it, but i'm almost on their side with this one. as an atheist, i'd already pieced together what this one was gonna be about, and every other review on the web's confirmed exactly what i was expecting. however, the phrases "cool" and "fun" tended to pop up a bit more. what kills me more than anything is that he pans this one for being one-note and stupid, and then turns around and praises War Zone(which i also enjoyed, despite it being every bit as retarded and over-the top as this one sounds). it's like the morons who praise Boondock Saints as the greatest shit ever and then call Tarantino and over-rated hack in the same breath. inconsistent doesn't even begin to cover it.Nmil-ek said:Yeah I'll most definently be giving this one a miss then nothing appeals to me less then a movie proslatysing or getting preachy on me (yeah fuck you too Avatar)
Adn wow the christ brigade got in on this one fast eh?
mchoueiri said:really u guys i think the plot is interesting enough to see the film and when has Denzel given a bad performance the same goes for gary oldman as soon as someone mentions religion everyone freaks out and says it must be bad or it must be boring and just cause it uses religion in it's main plot i strongly doubt that is is going to teach the people who view this movie on how to be a good Christian also I feel that Movie Bob has been wrong before with the film the road which I thought was a very well made film but i think that the book of eli looks like a great film and think that it is worth seeing
I get the feeling that this was all you really could say about the film. The acting is good, the story is there and there's some good fight scenes. Apart from that...well...it's like Yahtzee reviewing Peggle, what else do you say after enfuriatingly pretty mind-cocaine.?JimmyBassatti said:As much as I hate to give into peer pressure... this. I was really disappointed as well, since you spent the entire video complaining about the plot, and nothing more. I hope you aren't turning into a professional whiner, since I agreed a lot with your other reviews.
I don't think it's just because of that, it's just that it's ONLY that. There's just this guy travelling to some Mountain to ditch this ring...oops...that's the other boring movie.JimmyBassatti said:Eh, I see what you mean. It just pisses me off that it gets marked as bad since it involves God.
Having read the book...No. It really hasn't been done before. The problem is that it wasn't done right in the film. Also, The Lovely Bones will probably be bad, and the idea was done before, someone helping solve their death as a ghost.
