I just love how we can't win.

When it came out that in Assassin's Creed 3 there would be Americans(Or soon-to-be americans) dying, there was an uproar of "Finally, America gets to be the bad guy and stop picking on the rest of the world!".

And then Bob comes out with "America's so bad that the only country that can challenge America is...America."

So what is it you want? Hmm? What the fuck is it you want? I suppose the only way to make anyone happy would be to remove the US from the globe from now on. Just spray paint some blue over that part of the world and pretend like the american continents just don't exist anymore and the only part of the world that matters is the east, because that's definitely the vibe I'm getting. As far as the US is concerned, we can't do anything right, we can't do anything good, and we're the bane of the entire planet.

Huh, you know when I think about it that way, it actually DOES make me want to pick up a weapon and treat every other country like it wants my blood. Because if the attitudes I keep hearing are correct, they do.
I get the feeling a lot too. :/ People apparently just want America to vanish from existence.

OT: I loved the Bourne trilogy but I had a feeling this one wasn't going to be as good.

"America, we're so awesome that the only enemy who can challenge us now is... us." The thing is, America spends more on it's defence than the rest of the global top 10 combined. The idea of any equivalent power taking on the US, even at a spy level, ended with the cold war. If you're producing a high-tech spy thriller, you either have your hero take on some extremely well funded/connected terrorists or it's going to have to be America.

On the Bourne series specifically, I've also been under-whelmed in the past. I know I've seen two of them, but can't remember which two and couldn't tell you anything about them. In fact, my biggest criticism of the Daniel Craig Bond films is that someone thought they needed to be more like Bourne, when they're really at their best when they're not.

I might still go see this for Jeremy Renner. I've liked his work since The Hurt Locker and when he was on a fun cop show called The Unusuals (I'm curious if any of the other 5 people throughout human existence who have seen this show also read this site).
The Unusuals was fucking amazing. I love that show. I saw this last night at a midnight showing and posted the following on facebook:

I dug it. Quite a bit actually. Jeremy Renner is a solid leading man and convincing as a spy hands down (plus, you know, hot like burning). Rachel Weisz and Edward Nortan (sporting grey hair and looking Like A Boss) both bring their A game. I don't think it was as action packed as the other one's, this is a slow burn, and I liked it that way. That's what I think of when I think of spies. Aaron Cross, our new main dude, is different from Jason Bourne in a very important way and that is that he remembers being in the program. It makes him a different kind of protagonist. I think I was expecting more action but at the end of the movie I felt satisfied. They are obviously looking for another trilogy and if this one does well I hope they get a chance. Renner and company are a treat to see on the screen.

Do I have some nick picks? Of course there isn't a perfect movie. Like all of the Bourne movies it is a little too shaky cam for me but this is probably the most steady looking movie in the franchise. It is a little slow in the beginning but I was never bored. I got the feeling that the frankly surprising amount of dude bros that were there were getting a little antsy but they are dude bros so their opinion is worthless anyway. I could have used some more of pre program Aaron Cross, or even some more during the program Aaron Cross, but I'm willing to let it slide.

Over all I'm going to give it 3.5/4 stars and a recommendation. I'm also going to say that I really enjoy midnight premieres more than going during the day. Anyone staying up until 2AM on a Thursday night to see a movie clearly wants to be there and thus is less likely to pull out their cell phones or talk. I didn't have to tell off one person unlike last week in Total Recall.

PS: Jesus Jeremy your arms are like lovely. Is that weird that I really like your arms? Because I really like your arms.

The bourne identity ; meh
The Bourne supremacy ; literally fell asleep in the first 20 minutes
The Bourne Ultimatum; Given to me because people thought i liked the movies, still haven't unwrapped it.
The bourne legacy ; Might see it because of Jeremy Renner, but no other reason will get me there.

My problem is they just don't seem to know what they want to be. They're paced badly and whatever camera filter they're using to make everything blue is a turn off for me. Just can't get into them, despite my brief attempts.

I feel the same way Bob does. For instance: I've seen all three of the original films... And I wasn't even aware that Jason Bourne was meant to be a superhuman until Bob mentioned it here... I just... Can't remember anything. The movies are just extended trailers in my head.
I never got the idea that Jason Bourne was somehow super human, just that he was insanely trained, and then had some amnesia to deal with. Huh.

I think Renner will do a fine job, and I'll likely check the movie out on cable later instead of in theaters.

I guess you are a little young Bob but Hawkeye/Bourne's powers obviously come from using Roger Ramjet's Proton Energy Pills.

Nice to know im not the only one who found the films sort of meh, not bad, just kind of a blur.

Now that Bob mentions it I don't remember the last time a film I watched mentioned any milatary organisation out side America's. No love for the SAS Hollywood? I hear their pretty good.

So, did he like it or not? Because I'd like to get Bobs' opinion on this without giving him the hit. I only want to know his opinion so I can do the exact oppoosite.

I think the reason it took off was because the first movie focused on a more intimate scale than most blockbusters making it unique. And it also helped that the love interest was a very normal human being not some ninja sidekick girl in a silly skin tight suit. Then the team behind it really obviously were not expecting the runaway success and interpreted the popularity as a result of the conspiracy nonsense and high octane action, both things seen more prominently in every other action movie ever.
All we want is an action movie depicting one very clever guy with a gun trying to kill our protagonist, not all the time, just ONCE. We cant relate to the guy riding a jet engine into the Eiffel tower while duel wielding miniguns against the entire population of Iran. Cool to watch, but so much simpler and more nerve wracking the Bourne Identity way.

"Joss Whedon will direct Avengers 2. There was a question about this?"

No, just a sad, soft and ultimately ignored moaning from me.

I would like to point out that the only thing that beat Russia was Russia, so I think we just want to have that same power.

The latest Bourne movie is surprisingly Bourne-less.
It's actually kinda funny you mentioned that America vs America thing at the end. The very first movie I saw Matt Damon in was Team America.

So the "we built our own worst enemy" thing doesn't work for you or is it that "America is great" gets pounded around so much that it's hard to see the humility inherent in the concept?

I guess the movie is awesome. From a guy who admittedly doesn't like Bourne movies this is a very positive review.

I love Bourne trilogy by the way. Bourne Supremacy is my favorite.
I loved the trilogy :) really enjoyed them.

admittedly I was initially unhappy with the changes happening with the 4th movie until I found out (pre-Avengers too) that Jeremy Renner was in it after having seen The Town. so then I became open to it, tho its apparently taking lotsa hits from critics heh
