Actually, the "we become our own worst enemy" deal isn't so rare. After all, Marvel went ahead and did the whole Civil War storyline, hero vs hero. Pretty much any three anime/manga you can think of have at least an arc like that, if not a final stage. This is just the movie version.

Least Marvel now know that he can carry the wait of an action movie on his own - Hawkeye Origin story please? Thanks!

Great review by the way, makes some interesting points, not only about the film but the series as a whole.

Now that you mention it... yeah. I can recall anything of substance from the previous Bourne films. Like even the clips Bob used didn't ring any bells...

I'd like my movie purchases to stick with me longer than the time it takes to watch them...
Agreed, I'm one of those people who can remember what happened in a book/movie if you show me the title/cover and I can't even remember if I saw the last Bourne film. The start of the first one I can remember but after that nothing.

I can remember those shitty syfy channel daytime movies but not the Bourne films, what does that say about them?

I'm the same way... again, unless it is those movies with the generic bland qualities. I think that is the Bourne issue. It had some nice action sequences but nothing that really sticks with you because so many movies have nice actions sequences. It all sort of becomes a grey sludge in my brain. ... And I think parts of it in my brian may have meshed with the movie "Shooter" because Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg look so much alike and tend to play similar rolls.

Bob you're REALLY trying too hard to fit jingoism into this series. Did it honestly fly right over your head that the whole point of Bourne was 'what happens when we go too far?' Or did you just fall asleep for the last five minutes of Ultimatum and miss Matt Damon saying EXACTLY THAT to the guy who tried to kill him?

I think you never really got out of the Michelle Bay Transformers mindset.
Thank you.

Bob is so busy trying to sound like he's smart that he completely misses the point of what the Bourne movies are actually about and instead spends most of the review talking out of his ass.
I'm not thinking it is so much about missing the point, but forgetting it because the movies stuck with him for less time then the average take out chinese food meal. If everyone quoting SpiderJerusalem seems to remember the nitty-gritty plot details of the film, good on you, but you all do seem to have forgotten the part in the 5 minute long review where Bob says that he can't remember most of the previous films.

(Side note: trying to sound smart... I don't Bob from Adam, but from watching his reviews and the big picture he seems like a "smart" guy to me. You can disagree with him on a aesthetic or subjective basis, but ragging on him for "trying to sound smart" reeks of anti-intellectualism and taking a review of a film you enjoyed way too personally.)

I've always been a completely unashamed fan of the Bourne series, I'm a sucker for stuff like that. I'm really looking forward to see this.

The reason I never watch Bourne movies is the camera, it's like they strapped a camera to a fly to film the action scenes.

No, just a sad, soft and ultimately ignored moaning from me.
I'd like to start a support group for those of us who think Whedon is a hack, because, I often feel like I'm the only one who feels this way.

That said: Jeremy Renner is cute, but he's never given me the impression that he's got a lot going on upstairs. Maybe he's just a bad actor. Who knows?

Support groups are good and fine, but wouldn't they need to call it more a "how to help you overcome delusions" rather than a "Whedon is a hack" group?
No, I'm perfectly reasonable and lucid in, and entitled to, my opinion. And frankly, I find the ad hominem here entirely unnecessary

My opinion of the Bourne-films are pretty much the same.

I think I have seen them, at least two, or maybe the first several times, but I can't remember anything about them.

Except that there was running.

Yes, yes you are. I was just pointing out that while all kinds of opinions can be acknowledged, you must realize the slight discrepancy in assuming that only certain "enlightened" people can realize the hackiness of a multi award winning, celebrated and generally well loved writer and director?
Might I remind you that Stephany Meyer was also a celebrated and well-loved writer in her sphere as well? Popularity is nothing more than an accident of circumstance.

And Joss Whedon is a shit writer. He has no sense of characterization. He only knows how to write two types of characters - smug, sarcastic bad-asses and bimbos - and his "wit" is nothing more than pandering to nerds who used to use sarcastic quips to feel superior to bullies. In the end, his characters all sounds the same because they all make the same kinds of statements; there's not a single line one of them might say that you can't imagine them all saying, because they're all sarcastic, smug dipshits who can't resist making a "clever" remark when there's an opportunity.
Think about how Captain America was portrayed in his first movie. He was a polite, friendly, sometimes awkward, but an extremely motivated young man who got lucky and happened to be picked for the super-soldier project because he had the right personality that the doctor was looking for.
Now tell me, what about that kind of character strikes you as responding to Tony Stark saying "Oh, somebody here speaks English" with "Oh, so that's what that was," in a smug voice, because hurr hurr, he are so clevurr! Or cock-fighting with another character with lines like "Big man in a suit! Take that away and what are you?" as if he were a high school bully trying to talk down the smart kid in class?
When it comes to character writing, Joss Whedon has no talent.

Edit: My apologies to Lieju. I accidentally clicked the quote button to the wrong person's post and then didn't realize it was still there when I posted.

Yeah, I'm completely apathetic towards Jason Bourne. Still can't remember much about the actual plot, except for some bits on a boat in the first movie. And now I can't remember anything about the second one... but do have this recurring image of a lady talking on her phone.

I think that happened a lot...
