I saw the movie today, and guess what?!

I liked it! I know! Crazy.
It wasn't very memeorable but my friend and I (who is really into green lantern) really enjoyed it.

I agree with some of the things you say movie bob like the floating head, although I only noticed that once and it was not like you said it was, but it was Not That Bad!

For people who don't mind about all the fanfiction and stuff you might like this film so ignore all that crap movie bob chated and go see it you may like it.

Movie Bob and I seem to have several things in common. We both love comics, and know way too much about them. We both love MST3k, ( but lets face it, if you don't love MST3K then you have no sense of humor). We both enjoy video games.

When it comes to movies, I would say that we're close, but by no means a perfect match.

See, I thought that FF, Daredevil, and Transformers were acceptable. They weren't good, but they weren't horrible either. Actually in Daredevil, a slight change in the main actor and it might have been good.

However, his huge rant about how awful Green Lantern is, doesn't inspire me.

I had a bad feeling about this movie the moment I saw the first screenshot of the CGI rendered costume. It got worse when I realized it was Ryan Reynolds, ( who I typically like and am still niavely hoping will make a Deadpool movie, that doesn't suck either) as a miscast Hal Jordan. The feeling went to downright horrible when I saw the trailer portraying the now common, irresponsible fun-loving guy becomes serious hero plotline.

I have to say though, thanks Movie Bob. I thought my expectations for Green Lantern couldn't get any lower, but after your rant, I realize that the movie has nowhere but up to go. That said, if the movie has even the most fleeting moment of entertainment value, I'll probably walk out of the theater in an okay mood.

Maybe that is the studios plan for making movies about beloved characters. If they show enough crap in the trailers and screenshots, then all they have to do is have a single decent moment in the movie, and the audience will be so pleased they'll forgive the crap that is the entire rest of the movie.

Think about it, Smurfs, Transformers, Superman, Green Lantern, Green Hornet, G.I. Joe, ect.

Can't wait to see how bad the trailer for Thundercats will be.

(...) I guess just saying its bad over and over for 5 minutes is just as good.
Not for me. In fact, that's more like a conservative debate (the loudest, must repetitive point, regardless of validity, is always right). But that's another topic altogether.

I really want to be surprised. I want to act like we live in a world where beating the shit out of a great opportunity to make something memorable is something that traditionally doesn't happen in Hollywood, but it does every fucking day.
This still remains so disappointing, as far as how completely terrible they've found it possible to make this movie, but that they probably dealt a crippling blow to the career of an actor I've always had an appreciation for. I mean he's never been in anything groundbreaking, but he's always embraced the cheap humor with some sort of comedic class. While I'll never blame an actor for the shitty things done to him by a director and a studio, he chose this script and I know it's going to be a while before we see him in anything worthwhile again. Unless, you know, Hollywood somehow judges the people in its industry on the merit of how much money they can make with shitty product which once again, would never be a surprise, a.k.a. Nicolas Cage and the like. (yeah he's been in good movies, but those movies count for like 5% of the movies he's ever been in)

I've had movie ideas developing in my head for a long time while I've been finishing a couple of my novels. I've been hoping to gain the clout with which to make these movies properly, as in not Green Lantern them (I'm officially coining that phrase as the new film industry verb for ruining a good thing) to death. I've always felt like I've had the resolve to resist the temptation of selling out (no, really). But, seeing this just further cements my perception of Hollywood as a place where there is nowadays virtually no possible success without first selling your soul to a studio, and I'd rather make no movies at all than see my babies dragged out on a stage in chains like this.

Oh boy...I just hope Captain America's movie doesn't suck....*kneeling in prayer to the geek gods*
I wouldn't worry too much. Different comic publishers, different movie studios, different everything really.

The GL looked terrible from the moment screen images and trailers came out. The whole movie looked ugly, from the CGI backgrounds, to the CGI characters and the CGI suit.

Hopefully after Nolan is done and that next crap superman movie comes out, DC will learn and take their IPs away from the WB guys.

Sorry to break this to you but Time Warner owns Warner Brothers and DC comics.
Poor DC movie fans so! Unless Time Warner decides to move future movies away or gets another studio to do them. I don't see anyone doing Batman as well again and I've no hope for Superman (but I don't like him anyway)

"Batman and Robin bad"
[stunned silence]
Angels and ministers of grace defend us.

It looks like DC's going to have to start their own film division to keep this stuff from happening. It's a big factor in how Marvel movie properties got better. This is such a shame though. I was really hoping WB could do superheroes without Nolan's help, but it looks like that's just not going to happen. Brace yourselves everybody - we get one more Nolan Batman flick and then it's back to no good DC-based movies for about oh, another fifteen to twenty years, and even then I'm afraid it's going to be Batman again.

Well, I admit, I will still see it. I see 3/4 new movies a week, so I generally see the bad ones as well as the good... And I had pretty much no positive expectations for this one... so yeah. I've thought it looked awful from the very first trailer.
I have had a sinking feeling ever since the costume design pics came out. But all the posters show the really interesting aliens from the Green Lantern Corps and was luring me back in. To hear that they are relegated to a couple of minutes of screen time is very disheartening.

Still, Green Lantern is big with one of my relatives and we are seeing it for his sake for his birthday. I think he will be hit even harder than Movie Bob was. But sometimes you have to throw money at something to get more of what you want. Maybe they will straighten up and fly right for the second one. If there is a second one. :/

Wow, much more of that and you;ll find a red ring on your doorstep Bob. Not that I can blame you. It's one thing with Transformers when you can at least say the source material wasn't much, but GL has a lot to work with.

I'm not overly surprised though. I mean, I'll overlook the CG and am in the gorup of non film students that don't get cinematography, but just the use of Hammond in this at all made me fear this would be primarialy Earth based and thus removed from GL's best material. It was beginning to look like a "live through the bland origin and hope the sequal does better" film, which let's face it, in comic movies we may need to tollerate just to keep the normals up to date.

But seriously, Steel bad? That has to be the fanboyism talking. Nothing can be that bad.

It was a harmless popcorn summer movie flick, nothing less, nothing more. I personally enjoyed it, because I went in expecting a bad movie. My advice to anyone who might go see it; have VERY low expectations, go with friends who can appreciate "so bad it's good" movies.

Oh, and one last thing. Movie Bob said Warner Bros hasn't made any good superhero movies other then the last two Batman movies. I completely disagree, I thought Superman Returns was a fantastic movie and it stayed remarkably true to the Christopher Reeve classics.

I knew from the first time I saw the trailer that it would be bad. What did everyone see that made them think it would be better than any other random superhero film?

Is it as bad as The Last Airbender? That piece of shit sucked so hard, and now I am too scared to see movies opening weekend.

Friends are going on Sunday, and I may not join them now.

Wow, seriously epic rant Bob. No really, it's nice to see you turn the bile works up full blast to shit on a movie that rightly deserves it.
