1. Fun fact: Spaced was Nick Frost's first acting job, and he got it purely because he was Simon Pegg's best mate. Needless to say this worried more than a few execs.

2. Thanks for spoiling the bird joke for me.

This was probably the best film I've watched so far this year.

Ark words?

"Three tits... awesome."

Well, now I'm definitely going to see it for the 'Screw You ID' factor. Thanks Bob!
What's so wrong with ID? As long as it isn't taught in the classroom, people have a right to believe in it if they want.

I concur, but my big sticking point for a film like this is that it often confuses Christianity with the ID people. As a Catholic, I've taken my fair load of excrement from people who don't realize that even the Pope in Rome has said that both evolution and the existence of other intelligent life in the universe are in no way in conflict with the church's ideals.

So as long as a movie is smart enough to know who is stupid, I am on board.
Y'see, that's the thing. Nobody mentioned it before you did.
Also, you're talking Catholicism. Protestants, which house the majority of IDist to the best of my knowledge, don't listen to him.

It didn't look funny, and I'm so sick of Seth Rogen it actually hurts a little. I enjoy your reviews Bob, but I generally don't agree with them a lot...

As for the creationism thing, there's a time and a place. If you personally enjoy that sort of thing, but noticed it was out of place, then it's likely to be jarring for those people who went to see this film but weren't expecting it, nor appreciate having it in there. I don't go and see religious films or concerts, and I don't want to go and be preached at from the other end of the spectrum either, thanks

To be fair to him, the review did point out about them picking up a religious evangelist who "gets her mind blown", so it was implied.

Also, it's not protestants (at least in Europe) I'm pretty sure it's Evangelist-Baptist Churches. Only American ones at that (at least, Ive never met any in Europe, and people here are generally too cynical to go for that sort of thing)

gotta love how easily you summed up battlela. that scene at the end wheres hes loading the mag im like "dude, we use auto-loaders, your not being helpful" weird to see how crappy the aliens aim was that entire movie, and how easily their tech was damaged by a simplistic race that had 0 warning of their arrival, recon much? (though a friend stated it would be way more awesome if that WAS the recon)

Oh man, putting good money this thread devolves into an evo/id/crea flame war.

Thanks Paul =/

On that note, i was remotely amused by this movie, until i heard it got preachy, and then Bob got belligerent, so I'll pass.

Peg and Frost are funny, so I know the movie will be to. Seth rogan, not so much.

ID is a belief and not a science, agreed? People have an issue with ID because the crazies want it taught like a science. I hate crazies (generally because they are uneducated or in it for something not expressed)

Trailer didn't make me laugh at all so I think I'll still pass. If they can't make something look good by cherry picking and showing the best parts (I'm looking at you, Adjustment Bureau, and The American), I can't imagine the movie will be good.

-People being racist-

Moviebob: WHAT THE HELL YOU GUYS ARE EVIL

-People making fun of religious people-

Moviebob: HELL YEAH GUYS YOU'RE GREAT

gah

seriously what the hell

also I feel obliged to point out that that Jeff Dunham was

a) Making fun of terrorists specifically, not all arabic people

b) bringing a stereotype out and ridiculing it, a good thing against racism.

I'm not even religious, but you seem to have not thought this through.

I'm all for a Pegg/Frost team-up. Just might go see this one.

Can I correctly assume that the people getting screwed in the screw-you moments are people that believe ID to be 100% undeniable irrefutable fact? Because those people are nuts. ID is a theory, nothing more, and should be taught and treated as such. It could be wrong or it could be right, possibly fact and possibly fiction, like the existence of extraterrestrial life, the presence of a divine universal (un)consciousness and the humanity of Jack Thompson.

Dead on review. Great job.

The only thing I would mention is Bill Hader's character. Isn't it more or less EXACTLY the same as his role in Superbad? Not to mention a few more-than-passing similarities to his character in Adventureland. Can he play other roles?

Well, if Freud was right, your ID would love that.

Also, Conan? More like Crownan...I'm not proud of that.

It doesn't have the edge from the original script on the intelligent design jokes, so it's a studio-driven film. I don't want to see it to be disappointed that it won't be as good as any of the Edgar Wright collaborations. I'm happy for Bob for enjoying it, but I doubt it would be a timeless cult nerd film.
