Maybe I'll rent it.

Honestly though, Simon Pegg hasn't been funny in any of his American movies. He was terrific in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, but for some reason his talents don't mingle very well with American comedy.

Well, now I'm definitely going to see it for the 'Screw You ID' factor. Thanks Bob!
Same here. I wasn't interested because Seth Rogan was going to portray a stoner. Oh how original. *rolls eyes* But since it *****-slaps ID, I'm all for it.

I have low expectations for this movie. The trailers din't make me laugh and I'm not one for road trip movies. But I will still likely be seeing it this or next week so I hope MB is right.
Yeah, same here... I watched a part in the trailer where the Alien starts shaking his arse out of the van window and well... I sort of lost faith in the film from that point. Wasn't really expecting an arse joke from this duo So my expectation have bee put a little low at the moment.

Maybe its good... I don't know, I'll probably end up seeing it eventually but so far... I'm not really aiming for it.

Thank God, I've been jonesing for a good sci-fi comedy for a while, and as a movie nerd I love me some references.

As for Battle: Los Angeles, I agree to a point, but I still loved the hell out of that film.
If anyone cares to read my review regarding it, follow the link:

That was actually a pretty good review. Nice work.

Same for you Bob. I may actually see both films, now.

Thanks for ripping on people who like action military flicks. Again.

Honestly, we could do without the sarcasm and overt digs at people of a different demographic to yourself. It's rude.

On topic, i'm a big fan of Pegg and Frost, but this film just doesn't appeal to me. I loved Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, but that may be because both films are unabashedly 100% British. Blending British and American humour really tends to fall flat. With me, anyway. But i can see this movie being big with the geek culture, as you say. Perhaps i'd find more appeal out of it if i cared one bit about comic books and sci-fi fiction subculture.

I saw the film without having heard of it last week - it's terrible. I don't mean terrible in an it's still interesting way I mean it's just horrible as both a film and a comedy - cliche swear jokes and bible-bashing don't make great comedy; and all the geek references in the world won't make your film interesting if the characters are bland cliches - again yes it's a comedy, but that doesn't excuse it from having poor acting, a bland story and forgettable set pieces - maybe if the jokes were really good, but with that set up the likelihood of that is slim, and Paul is no exception - the jokes are awful. I mean the big running jokes throughout the whole film is the whole "Alien with 3 tits" joke - it's not amusing, it feels really forced and is incredibly juvenile, which isn't something I wouldn't expect from Pegg. Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz where great films because the plot and situation merited the references; this just feels like an excuse to make as many references as possible interesting story be damned.

I watched this a few weeks ago, and was looking forward to the review.

I didn't get many of the sci fi references. I didnt even recognise Sigourney Weaver. But it was still hilarious.

True, maybe not as good as Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead, but still the most I've laughed in a long time.

Any of you in America yet to see this, watch it.

So now we have to hear you whine about your hatred of first-person-shooters in your movie reviews? Okay Bob, we get it, you don't like FPS games because you are smarter than us. Stop complaining that us "normies" like them.

2. Thanks for spoiling the bird joke for me.
Yeah... I watched the trailer for it a few days before I saw it. I watched the trailer with the volume off so the jokes wouldn't be ruined. Yeah, the bird joke kinda translates without sound doesn't it? Bummer. Only joke that was ruined though, a very funny film regardless. Nothing quite like a good slice of British humour.

Also: Sigourney Weaver is in this film. That makes it a Sci Fi epic already!

Thanks, Bob, for addressing Battle: LA. Pretty much what I figured, but at least you dealt with the issue. I'm filled with serenity now.

I'll give Paul a try on DVD. I do enjoy Simon Pegg.

Jason Momoa as Conan? In case any of you didn't catch it, that's the guy that played Ronan in Stargate: Atlantis. I know Bob is a bit skeptical, but Jason was a total badass on Atlantis. I for one am actually looking forward to this now even more.

Another Simon Pegg/Nick Frost movie? How did I not know of this??
Curse you, non-existant German ad campaign, and me being too broke to go to the movies....

Ah well, it's coming out April the 14th over here, so no harm done.
