It's interesting that in the UK, it's being pushed as "From the producers of Hot Fuzz", while in the US it's "from the makers of Superbad".

I wonder when the third blood and ice cream is coming.
I would speculate that it would be Wright, Pegg and Frost's next project.

Okay,Bob and the entire rest of the Escapist community. You're atheists. I get it. Do you find it absolutely necessary to be such dicks about it? You're entitled to your opinion, obviously. I'm not trying to claim that you're wrong. But why do you feel the need to, in your own words, "give a big 'screw you' to the Intelligent Design community"? Do you honestly think it makes you seem more credible? Do you think you're somehow converting the believers? Or is it just because our opinions differ from yours? Because there's a word for someone who's so petty they denounce any opinions that differ from theirs, and the word in question is "asshole".

Furthermore, why can't we all be right? I personally think that evolution is the best explanation for life on Earth, as there's so much evidence. I also believe that there is an omnipotent, omniscient, but not necessarily kind creature who began the whole process, and choose to call this creature God. If you don't like that second part, then feel free to disagree. But why must you take personal offense to it? Are you really that childish?

I hope I've made you all think, although I somehow doubt it.

More on topic, this movie looks like crap to me. Seth Rogen = do not want.
Just wanted to second this. While I don't necessarily agree with MoO's beliefs, I agree with this sentiment.

3rd rock from the sun recently popped up on netflix and Ive been watching a bit of it and the humor almost always comes from grown people (aliens) reacting to human social norms. It is funny but that is mostly thanks to John Lithgow and his dedication to each scene.

You do realise that Conan is portrayed as more of a skinny athletic build in his REH originals then the comic versions.
Huh? It's been a long time, but I've read virtually all of Howard's 'Conan' series, and I don't recall that. While he was an accomplished thief, Howard often described him as 'giant' and 'massive' and often says he was the strongest man alive. Subotai and Valeria were the thin, acrobatic type.

Schwarzenegger was the perfect Conan, with the exception of his eyes; so ultimately, I agree with Bob: that guy doesn't really fit the bill, but I'm almost definitely going to see the movie anyway.
Okay skinny wasn't the right word your right on that but I can recal REH comparing him to having the speed and agility of a panther. Also Conan in his thirties and forties were indeed portrayed as being very muscular ala Schwarzenegger but when he was in his teens and early twenties I can remember Conan being described as more of an athletic pantheresque type of person with supernatural agility.

The Conan reboot itself being more of a prequel/origin story of Conan I believe it makes sense for the actor to have that kind of build in his portrayal of Conan.

Of course I like you havn't read the books in a while so I may have my details wrong so I'm open to admit it if proven so.

What the hell is "Intelligent Design"?

OT: Another good review and you have convinced me that I need to see this.

The "theory" in the theory of evolution means that there is significant evidence to support it. However, I believe that there is an omnipotent being called "God" who at the very least kick-started the whole thing.

On that note: we get it movieBob, you don't think ID is right. However, being so arrogant and pretentious as to just automatically assume you're right and want to shove just how wrong those who believe in ID are is simply terrible. Not like "you're a terrible person" but terrible as in terrible, terrible journalism. I for one will not be watching anymore of MovieBobs series (any one them), because I don't like pretentious pricks telling me how wrong I am for believing something.

I may end up seeing both of these next week. I haven't been to the theater in months, and I think I could use a pick me up.

As I understand it, Intelligent Design says that life on the planet Earth and generally the universe in general is so complex and works so damn well together that the only possible explanation behind it and the many patterns that exist is some sort of 'intelligent designer' behind it all.

Basically saying that God made everything, but being more obscure about it so they're not outright saying God.

OH MY GOD!

A Seth Rogen movie I might actually enjoy!?

What sorcery is this?
My favorite movie that had Seth Rogan in it was also his first, Donnie Darko. This may finally be the second movie he is in that I really enjoy.

If the movie even mildly resembles Spaced, then that was really all you had to say. Now I have to see it.

I concur, but my big sticking point for a film like this is that it often confuses Christianity with the ID people. As a Catholic, I've taken my fair load of excrement from people who don't realize that even the Pope in Rome has said that both evolution and the existence of other intelligent life in the universe are in no way in conflict with the church's ideals.

So as long as a movie is smart enough to know who is stupid, I am on board.
Agreed and I am protestant.. No one will know for sure.. but why is it that people that believe a certain way have to have a "screw you" moment. I have no idea what really happened, a lot of it is sort of confusing and I like to research it, but it's a lot of faith. But to each there own. I will state my opinion and let others make their own decisions.. But really, per other comments, people will just go see this movie because they make an ID joke? Who's the sucker there..

Erm... the "Intelligent Design" Community are those People who attack the Theory of Evolution, Charles Darwin and all who think this theory might hold some truth as "non believers" which God himself will eventually kill. This includes yourself, since you asked the question "why can't we all be right?". Apparently, we can't.
I'd say that i can not disprove the existence of God and maybe it was some being for the lack of a better word who set it all in motion. Like the Big bang.

I don't know anything for sure and "believing" that something exists in some form or another just isn't my way. One could say that my not believing in God is infact the will of god because he gave me my skepticism for a Reason.

I don't get why believers would defend creationists and People who believe in intelligent design; those People twist christianity into something that resembles saturday morning cartoon evil.

For those going to see the movie JUST for the 'screw you ID (creationism)' bit, I could save you 10 bucks, just read this entire thread, its pretty much a bunch of people agreeing with you.

Same here. I wasn't interested because Seth Rogan was going to portray a stoner. Oh how original. *rolls eyes* But since it *****-slaps ID, I'm all for it.
So you're going to go spend $10 to watch people make fun of other people you don't like (considering that the bits where they make fun of this group will only add up to a few minutes total)? You were completely uninterested in it before-hand, but now that you know it spends a few minutes taking pot-shots at people whose views you disagree with, you're ready to shell out money to see it.

You are.... some kind of person.
Yep, that about sums it up. :)

Kinda like when I went to see Religulous.

You're wrong for believing in something where the main qualifier is "I HAVE FAITH" rather than "I have significant evidence to show how what I believe is correct".

I'll tell you how silly you are just as I'd tell Fred Phelps how silly he is just as I'd tell a racist or a sexist how their faith-based beliefs are silly. I'll be watching each MovieBob twice to make up for you.

Oh man. I'm pretty sure even I could look more convincing as Conan than that.

Sounds like a good movie, and Paul himself looks really funny. Alsom you don't really need to be an alien to think the intelligent design theory is stupid.
