Okay,Bob and the entire rest of the Escapist community. You're atheists. I get it. Do you find it absolutely necessary to be such dicks about it? You're entitled to your opinion, obviously. I'm not trying to claim that you're wrong. But why do you feel the need to, in your own words, "give a big 'screw you' to the Intelligent Design community"? Do you honestly think it makes you seem more credible? Do you think you're somehow converting the believers? Or is it just because our opinions differ from yours? Because there's a word for someone who's so petty they denounce any opinions that differ from theirs, and the word in question is "asshole".

Furthermore, why can't we all be right? I personally think that evolution is the best explanation for life on Earth, as there's so much evidence. I also believe that there is an omnipotent, omniscient, but not necessarily kind creature who began the whole process, and choose to call this creature God. If you don't like that second part, then feel free to disagree. But why must you take personal offense to it? Are you really that childish?

I hope I've made you all think, although I somehow doubt it.

More on topic, this movie looks like crap to me. Seth Rogen = do not want.

Erm... the "Intelligent Design" Community are those People who attack the Theory of Evolution, Charles Darwin and all who think this theory might hold some truth as "non believers" which God himself will eventually kill. This includes yourself, since you asked the question "why can't we all be right?". Apparently, we can't.
I'd say that i can not disprove the existence of God and maybe it was some being for the lack of a better word who set it all in motion. Like the Big bang.

I don't know anything for sure and "believing" that something exists in some form or another just isn't my way. One could say that my not believing in God is infact the will of god because he gave me my skepticism for a Reason.

I don't get why believers would defend creationists and People who believe in intelligent design; those People twist christianity into something that resembles saturday morning cartoon evil.
I don't dig the oh-so-innocent "I call the beginning god, so what?" statement of his. It'd be fine, sorta, if that was all there was to it. However that's not all there is to it. One must uphold other faith-based beliefs. And really, most of America isn't Christian anymore. I'd say 1% are at best, the rest are pickers and chooses that make Individualbeliefianity. Don't like that anti-gay rule in there? Explain it away or ignore it! Don't like the sexism? Pretend it doesn't exist! Don't understand science? We've got a placeholder for that, and damn you if you TRY TO DESTROY MY FAITH CUZ ID IS EQUAL!!!!!

It's foolishness and everyone is growing tired of it. I used to be the comforting "believe what you want as long as you do no harm" dude until I realized that religion harms people even when it intends the best. So I'll say it, ID is moronic. The poster you responded to can be all 'gee-shucks', but he's asserting an answer using a placeholder. I'd be like me claiming that unobtainium is the cure for cancer, and until we can test it there's no reason to look elsewhere for the cure.

Just an aside, my aunt is religious and she doesn't consider the idea of alien life blasphemous. Rather, she believes that if extraterrestrial life were discovered, it would be further proof of God's majesty. I know this is pretty irrelevant to the topic, but I just felt I should bring up that I don't think all religious people would react to aliens the way Kristen Whig's character does.
Very much so, I'm not a catholic, but even the pope has had some reconciliation with the idea of other intelligent life.

Aliens are 'far' from the 'nail-in-the-coffin' of religon in general that Militant atheists want it to be. Much like evolution in general. Religion tends to roll with the punches, always have, always will, whether its Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, or Scientology.

Woah woah woah. Roll with the punches as in "fight if for a multitude of decades before realizing they lost the battle and readjusting their belief with apologetics and claiming that there was evidence for it in the Bible/Quran/Torah/Etc the whole time"?

Are we forgetting that the Catholic Church imprisoned Galileo? Let's not pretend that religion is absolutely all for scientific discoveries.

All the controversy around intelligent design aside, I want to see this movie, I love Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Also just to poke at the controversy I'll say that no casual "Screw yous" are necessary, their community has spawned enough stupid to keep me entertained forver....including using THIS as a unofficial mascot:
Also most uber-religious organizations would react one of two ways to aliens, they would either try to convert it to their religion of choice, or KILL IT WITH FIRE!

The "theory" in the theory of evolution means that there is significant evidence to support it. However, I believe that there is an omnipotent being called "God" who at the very least kick-started the whole thing.

On that note: we get it movieBob, you don't think ID is right. However, being so arrogant and pretentious as to just automatically assume you're right and want to shove just how wrong those who believe in ID are is simply terrible. Not like "you're a terrible person" but terrible as in terrible, terrible journalism. I for one will not be watching anymore of MovieBobs series (any one them), because I don't like pretentious pricks telling me how wrong I am for believing something.
You're wrong for believing in something where the main qualifier is "I HAVE FAITH" rather than "I have significant evidence to show how what I believe is correct".
Dark Matter.

I'll tell you how silly you are just as I'd tell Fred Phelps how silly he is just as I'd tell a racist or a sexist how their faith-based beliefs are silly. I'll be watching each MovieBob twice to make up for you.
Really? Why is that wrong? You have no evidence to the contrary, so you cannot prove that I am wrong. BAM.

Just kidding. About the "BAM" part, not the evidence part. When you prove that we were not created by a god of any sort, I'll tell you how right you were. Until then, please keep your foolhardy assertions to yourself.

And just for the record, I do believe that there are aliens, and that evolution happened, just not to the "we evolved from microbes" degree.

However, alongside having anti ID evidence, actual evidence for ID needs to exist too. Just because you have no evidence to prove the non existence of the a creator that doesn't make it proof that he exists.

You have no proof I don't have a magic frog that rides a magic carpet and eats branston pickle under my bed, but that doesn't mean you'd be wrong to say that it's not there, without any evidence to prove otherwise.

First of all, I don't get why you are so upset. He is reviewing the movie and the anti Creationism/ID aspect is a large part of the film. He wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't talk about it and as a subjective reviewer he is perfectly right to throw in his two cents about it. It's not like he just randomly started trashing Creationists.

Furthermore, why can't we all be right?
Because there IS a right answer and the only way we even have a chance of discovering it is to keep looking. We can't do that as long as we say that a few pages from a book written thousands of years ago by desert nomads deserves the same amount of respect as a scientific theory backed up by hundreds of thousands of scientists with mountains of evidence produced by millions of hours of research.
But why must you take personal offense to it? Are you really that childish?
I don't understand this part. I haven't seen anyone (including Movie Bob in this review) act "offended" about Creationism. You were the one who was acting offended by the overt atheism of the members of this site. In light of that, this comment seems rather hypocritical.

I hope I've made you all think, although I somehow doubt it.
Wow... pretentious much?

Anyway, on the review.

Looks great. I love Simon, Nick, and Seth so I was basically already sold but this review makes me much more certain. To bad I wont be able to see it 'till it comes out on DVD.

As for Battle: L.A., meh. It didn't look that good to me in the first place but I my still rent it off Netflix or something when it come out.

Galileo didn't get in trouble for his scientific views...he got in trouble for blatantly insulting the pope, who was his sponsor and the de-facto ruler of Europe. Even then, his punishment was basically house arrest and being saddled with a PR rep.

I wasn't blown away by the film. It had a few good laughs but it wasn't on the level of Shaun of the Dead or Superbad.

Illogical. My mother birthed me, but you cannot prove that my mother is NOT an alien from GammaBeta Quadrant Flabnoix. You can't prove a negative, sir. There is always a loophole in the argument when you are trying to prove a negative. For instance, you can't prove that I'm not a puppy. What's that? I look human? A disguise, I assure you. X-ray? Sure, but my puppiness is fused to my human disguise and I have a beta-sensor module that transmits false waves to Xrays.

You can't prove a negative, I repeat.

I don't believe in aliens just as you don't believe in evolution. Your claim is akin to "I like BLT sandwiches, but only if they don't have bacon on them".

And having to admit that geocentricism was correct and that he was wrong with his secular "we revolve around the moon" quackery. Wait.....sound's like his scientific views were on trial.

You can't really ever go wrong with simon pegg and nick frost. : p
Btw they also made this during the filming of the movie, which is absolutely hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwQP1_lbKWI

They reenact the scene from starwars where R2-D2 and C-3PO are fighting in the desert. Simons R2-D2 impression is awesome (when he's showing nick how to make the sounds). xD

They're allowed to beleive what they believe without some fatass internet tosser acting superior.
That's why we should treat the Klan with respect as well as the Westboro Baptist Church. They're allowed to believe and if anyone dares laugh at their silly faith-based beliefs then THEY'RE the bad guys.
