I pretty much expected this review to go as it did. What i really didn't like was his flat out disregard of Joel Kinnaman as an actor solely because he doesn't know who he is.

The Killing (US) had its faults, but fuck me is Kinnaman amazing. His character Holder is one of the most brilliant police officer characters i've ever seen in a TV show, and yeah, he may not have had a great anything to work with in Robocop, but seriously, the dude can act, even if his performance in this film is somewhat lacking (probably through no fault of his own).

And i mean the dude can Really act.

Apparently i'm supposed to have heard of this guy because he's in some cable show
Just because you haven't watched The Killing Bob, does not make an actor worthless or generic. And your lack of knowledge of an actor doesn't make them irrelevant. That's some seriously smug condescension there.

You know I would have put up with a lot, but they had to go and take out the violence. That was quite possibly the best thing about the original, and what made a certain other remake (Dredd) fun to watch. But no, gotta cater to the all important thirteen year old demographic apparently.
From a story-telling standpoint, not showing us anything more extreme than what PG13 allows, it becomes kind of silly to see something like ED209 deployed: there's no justification for an automated mech combat unit unless the streets of Detroit are a warzone (sort of like how LA looks like at the beginning of Demolition Man, when you see the entire city lit up by fires and what appears to be AA guns firing into the air). Unless the Crips and Bloods are fighting each other with military hardware, you cannot possibly argue that this would be in any way necessary.

I would go see The LEGO Movie, but its coming out in April in New Zealand.

I guess I'll just re-watch Dredd again.

Just another remake with no reason to exist. Robocop is one of those classic movies that is perfect just the way it is, there doesn't need to be remade. And making it a PG-13 is a slap in the face, why even bother at that point?

Hell even using human size ones or drones at all seems like overkill. In the original movie you saw just how bad things had become so it was justified that drastic measures were needed to maintain order. With a PG-13 rating what are the criminals going to do, call you a poopy-head and cut in line?

Lowering the bar for all movies this year, A+ with action on par with touched by an angel, and villain who is so obvious it is impossible to miss. I would say the Judge Dredd remake was definitely better than expected. Looks like someone should have went to the Michael Bay school of directing because then you know you will get a hit and tons of explosions because who doesnt like explosions.

A new movie, over 100 characters in fire fights, blood and gore ramped to the max, is it robocop oh h*ll no its Super Mega Death Explosion Central or SMDEC. CGI gtfo real people and real blood (pigs blood covering every character from head to toe, controlled explosions not that CGI nonsense) Get the rid of the story and make it some sorta bs story about the future end of the world nonsense and make sure there are many groups vying for control. The world has gone mad and only 1 man and 1 billion bullets can solve it. Live action stunts with real free falls martial arts madness.

Wow this movie is not even worth a dollar, wow

Good review, thanks for your take Bob, but what was with the comment on generic white actors?

Are you trying to say they all look the same and have no merits or individual character? Are they not really people?

Would you dare to say the same thing about non-white actors?

What is up with that?

Well it looked good. I'm not saying it was good, I haven't even seen it. But it looks really cool, and the shiny black Robocop worked. And the Ed 209 units looked slick as well.

Story wise, I believe your evaluation. I'll still watch it on Netflix.

Yeah, MAYBE he hates it because it's not the original, but honestly, can you blame him? I'd like to see anyone else try and be neutral with a remake of something they adore to death. He has actual critique there, too, you know.

I will not be able to link to it, but there is a fan remake of the original Robocop with even more violence. Also what the Iron Sheik said about Robocop.

You know, if your remake of a classic movie comes up so short in every way that not even borrowing Stilt-Man's suit would help, RETHINK YOUR MOVIE!

As a child/byproduct of the 80s, Robocop was one of my many favorite action films growing up and it still holds up to this day (if you exclude the lousy Frank Miller sequels and cartoon spin-offs). The remake is basically trying to get by on mere nostalgia by name alone. Either stay home and watch the original or go see The Lego Movie again.

Well, I already wasn't going to see this because the reviews make it look like the worst movie ever made. This video just reafirms my opinion that I can tell movies will be terrible from the preview. I'm not sure that's a good thing but I hope no one sees this. Hollywood needs to learn that if they're remaking a movie they can't just pick up the window dressing and put it on the same generic stupid plot they always use with no respect to the source material and make a tonne of cash.

This is as bad as that Carrie remake, totally pointless and you would be better off just digging up the old VHS tape even though no one has a working VHS player anymore because just looking at the tape is better than watching this pointless remake.

Thanks for the honest review. I too thought the original was/is great. I too found it laughable that it was pg-13 when I found out and was pretty sure it'd be another reboot pile of blank. I've been reading some reviews at other sites that are saying its a good movie...LOL(gotta love the high bar of bullshit with most media, or is that a low bar?hmm). Anyhow, thanks for the honesty its appreciated.

I ?like? how Bob thinks all of the old original movies had some sort of point to them that needs to be reproduced in there remakes. Get over it it?s a new generation or 2. Now the new Robocop movie is crap. I saw it and the back story is week as tissue. Really the whole world has American robots patrolling the streets. It would have been believe able if they had said America invaded the world with its robots to try to maintain the peace. Plus real life Detroit is worse than movie Detroit. As far as the original Robocop, I never thought it was more than a shoot um up just like the remake only the remake has a less believable back story.

I have also seen the LEGO moive twice. It is Awesome!

Well I don't think anyone should be surprised this movie is crap but I'm honestly shocked at just how terrible it seems to be.

Really need to see that Lego movie damn it.

The most absurd thing I heard wasn't they were remaking robocop, but that they were making it pt-13. The fact that they wanted to change the central themes of the movie isn't a problem. I mean, why bother remaking a movie if its just an HD updated of the original? Thing is when you remake a film, you owe it to the original to at least maintain what gave that film its identity. Nameless, cartoonish violence, mixed with intelligent satire. I mean seriously, how hard is it to be smart and stupid at the same time?
