OT:Has any one seen "A Boy and His Dog" it's a strange film with a telepathic dog set in some post-apocalyptic future. Had a quite creepy ending.
Awesome movie. Er. Neat movie. I'd been pointed towards that thing back in '96 when I was a wee teenager, and didn't get around to remembering about it for about 10 years. Then I saw it and wondered why anyone would recommend that to a wee teenager. A bit of an awkward movie to bring up, though -- the whole thing is pretty much one rape after another. Incidental girl was raped, another girl sets herself up to be raped as a trap, crazy society tries to rape guy, yeah.. lotta rape in that movie. Doesn't make for the best Date Night flick.

Three cheers for Six String, though. I actually have managed to get people to watch that.. I've just not been able to get anyone to *enjoy* watching it yet.

Bob and I feel the same about Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds". Such a masterpiece. I watched it recently and its as haunting as ever.

Birthday card... cheesecake... jelly beans... bo-bomb...?

I'm sure it means something and someone will figure it out. I just don't have the mind to do it right now.
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean boom
A line from "Its the end of the world as we know it (and i feel fine) by R.E.M
I actually thought it meant "First birthday, here's some cake, been a bomb!" But I don't actually know how long GameOverthinker's been making movies here.

Excelent video MovieBob. I for one would love Veggietales' take on the book of Revelations not least because it would be the ultimate challenge to put a possitive real-world morals spin on a book drapped with symbolism, metaphores, the metaphysical and all that stuff with the number of the beast (yeah folks, that is actually in there although it's kinda miss-quoted, as it says it requires wisdom to work out what the number refers to, and it says it's a human name, so there we go folks, it's all just that little bit more deep than we first thought).
Again, I say, great video as always Bob.

See, I'd put it as "First Birthday, here's some cake, been a blast, but then I'd realize that it's REM lyrics XD

Wow, I learned something today! Not a bad idea placing a special in the middle of week btw. I really enjoyed this bit. Now I've got some badass post apocalyptic themed films to watch!

In every age of Christianity they thought the rapture would happen in there life time. Also the instinct to strip down to a purer life style were you kill who ever and what ever you want with out consequence is fantasy almost all humans have had which I think factors into the disaster movie in some way. Yes some actually will say I am legend sucked with will smith. Another point to add were was the planet of the apes (the old ones not that horrible new film) reference ?

My vote for best apocalypse story is Alas, Babylon. America wins the Cold War but everyone dies anyway. A close second is Earth Abides wherein everyone dies and a naturalist rebuilds the world, which as it turns out is populated by the idiot survivors.

Hahaha Brilliant as per usual Bob. :) A nice quick look at the etymology of the word and the genre it spawned :)

I was also expecting a reference to the old TV movie "The Day After". Hell, it's an end of the world movie. If you're looking for more nuclear happy fun times, the BBC put out at least 2 movies on the subject. Go look up "Threads" (1984) and "The War Game" (1965) if you like your apocalypse to have an atomic flavor.

Personally I loved Road Warrior, as for the "I am Legend", Will Smith's was good (In my opinion). As for weird apocalypses, I like the Zombie apocalypse the most!

I do agree that "The Birds" is pretty interesting as far as 'holy crap what is going on?' end of the world thing, but it's Hitchcock and he took 'holy crap what's going on?' and turned it into a high art.

As for the Apocalypse, I would agree it's the whole 'what will you do' but also it's the idea of not being able to go back to how things were. The 'revelation' or change of things makes the possible world to come a very scary and questionable feature, and while you didn't like "I am Legend", I have to admit that, as far as showing the zoo animals running wild and how a person might attempt to survive day-to-day living, where he gets water and food, etc, was interesting to me in that you had to have innovation. Kinda like in "28 Days Later" and some other movies in that genre, I think it's both psychological and practical.

Ya see... after catching the "[Insert REM Joke Here]" in the credits, I wasn't thinking he'd STILL try to sneak in a reference to "It's The End Of The World As We Know It". Nice one, Bob.
