Its not about winning arguments its about maintaining the delusions that exist within his own head.

You're thinking of when the Catholic Church says a movie is blasphemous.
...or when the Mexican precidency bans a movie, or when an advocacy group like PETA try to sabotage a movie...

And vice versa.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure anyone counter-raging is just offended at being called a sheep (indicating insecurity on the subject, of course).
We're not allowed to be offended at being outright insulted? That's nice.

I could barely finish watching this review. Took a lot of strength.

I can't believe Bob this week. We are obedient sheep because we go see one of the biggest collaboration films this decade instead of watching a film that was barely advertised in many places? We are the worst kind of people on earth because we like the premise that a movie will be an homage to 80s action films?

He dropped the ball on this review. Insulting a film is one thing, insulting someone for liking it is another, but insulting people for thinking the premise sounds like a fun idea?. That's a new low. I won't even go into how much I disagree with you on the quality of the film.

For someone who tries to hinder people from being elitist nerds, you are one of the biggest elitist nerds I've seen in quite a while.
Huh. I'm pretty sure he liked the premise (and listed a few examples of it done well, like Planet Terror). He's just pissed that's not what they did. It isn't a bad 1980's action movie remade in 2010; it's just a 2010 action movie that was made badly.

That's what I got out of it anyway. And I think he was insulting people who picked to see Expendables over Scott Pilgrim, rather than see Pilgrim (or saw both, which would have been perfectly acceptable). Basically, he's pissed that Pilgrim got slaughtered in the box office by this movie (which is, in his opinion, a lesser Rambo which was already a good 1980's jungle action flick remade with gore added).

But this is all guess work, since I'm not movieBob, and I can't peer into his mind.

I felt a little insulted by the filmmakers of this movie, actually, after I realized the experience was basically just Stallone peeing on me for over an hour and a half. But I shrugged it off and got over it.
And that has what exactly to do with me objecting to being called a "sheep"? Oh, right, nothing, sorry, I foolishly assumed that you would start making sense.

Are you going to deny that you're a wormy little cretin? Cause I don't deal with liars, dude, sorry.
Much better.
Good try, but the problem is - those two "witty" retorts of your easily show that you have no arguments to present and are just eager to insult people who dared to disagree with you.
Your comment is the worst one I've seen here and that's quite an achievement.

I still want to see it.
I'm not above mindless "shoot em ups", especially when this one has SEVERAL actors I like.

I was hoping Bob would cover Piranha. I'll probably go see it anyway.

When the trailer for Scott Pilgrim hit, it appealed to me mainly on all the novelty factors. Actors didn't look great, but then I didn't know most of them so it had potential, and I liked Shawn of the Dead. When I saw the first posters for the Expendables, I was wowed by the star list. Somewhat conspicuously it was a long time between when I saw that first poster and when I saw the first trailer.
Either way, the trailer looked cheesy, and I avoided the film on opening night, opting for Pilgrim. When word hit of it being the winner for the weekend that only drove me off more.

wow, well, my interest in this was minimal to to start with, while a good idea on paper, and quoting Yahtzee here " paper is a flimsy thing to goes see through when you rub grease on it"

i was originally gonna wait for the DVD, since it didn't look like i was gonna miss anything, despite the cool sounding idea of getting all 'the old war horses' together for one big ass kicking session

>.> nice to know i was right. glad i saw Scott Pilgrim last night

I was hoping for piranha but like he said he didn't get to see it, but this does solidify me going to see it instead of the expendables.

He said that anyone who likes the idea of a film going to the roots of 80s action films is the worst kind of person. That is what the Expendables is.

And even if you are right, his behavior is still not acceptable. Remember, this is the guy who claims that we all need to stop being elitist nerds looking down on others that don't share our interests, and now he's insulting people over not liking a film he liked?

Taking offense is entirely the fault of the offended, and is a pretty clear indicator of insecurity.

In English, it means deep down you're afraid you are a sheep, and you're offended because Bob called attention to it.

If you were more secure, you would have just lol'd and enjoyed the rest of the review, because Bob's rage is pretty sweet.

Yeah it's pretty sweet to mock inferior creatures. Like going to see the monkeys at the zoo and giggle as they fling their poo and scream at each other.

This movie lied to me.

Yes, I admit it, I was one if the idiots who lined up at the door to see this tripe opening weekend hoping beyond hope it would be the over-the-top 1980's action movie throwback they were playing it up to be. I wanted to like this movie. I really did. The opening scene held promise. The lead pirate guy got his entire BODY blown off, for Christ's sake. And I thought, "Holy shit! This really could be awesome. Not as bloody as it coulda been, but I bet they're just holding the "money shots" back for later. This is only the opening act, after all. This movie really could rock!" And then... nothing. Nothing notable happens for an entire hour until the sorta comical/actually pretty awesome scene where Terry Crews goes marching down a hallway wielding an automatic shotgun the size of Jet Li blowing away everything in his path and even that sorta registered as a "meh" after the fact because so much of this has just been done before and better. Not that you could tell what was going on most of the time anyways. The camera was so jerky and the fight scenes so incomprehensible I couldn't tell who was hitting/shooting at what. The cinematography in fist fight between Austin and Stallone was so bad (and the characters so indistinguishable from one another) that it made the scene LITERALLY unwatchable.

Do not make my mistake. Pass on this movie.

P.S. Also, Li and Statham are both best known for their great martial arts and this movie gives them absolutely NOTHING to work with. The fuck, guys? The FUCK?

I love this thread.

Offtopic: I haven't seen Rambo movies or Rocky movies or most of those '80s action movies that are famous. I feel awesome.

OT: So it tried to be a homage to these films I never saw and it failed? I'm more of a comedy/drama person, so I might skip this one...

Edit: WTF is with people making MANLY-type jokes then bitching about Chuck Norris jokes? They're the exact same thing...

It's funny he's Talking about Gore in Rambo when spoiler Rambo doesn't actually kill anyone in that film.
What are you talking about? Rambo kills, like, EVERYONE in that film. No, seriously. Every single bad guy you see on screen gets murdered by Rambo at within some point in the move.

Either you speak some weird, unknown English or you're just making stuff up.
It's the second one, isn't it?
I see no point in continuing this conversation since there are some unresolvable philosophical differences between us that stop this debate from being productive in any way... plus you're not particularly pleasant to talk to.
