I don't disagree with any opinion of the movie, but only because it's outside of my preferences. You went way too far with criticising the movie's viewers. You seem to think more of yourself with every review you release.

You describe yourself as a "part time independent film maker, part time film reviewer, and full time movie geek". That means you're mostly unemployed. You've just used up the last of your credibility.

If you like stupid crap, you most likely are a stupid person. To see fellow Escapist react so violently against this pretty obvious truth is pretty embarrassing.

Ouch...

OT: I'm going to have to watch it before I reply really. But because I didn't really care to see it anyway, chances are there will be a DVD rental in the near future.

Go to jail moviebob, Scott Pilgrim is nothing but hipster trash on par with JUNO (I could tolerate you thinking it was good because its riddled with videogame jokes) while the Expendables is just a simple ACTION movie the only reason you didnt like it is because you ARENT someone who likes action movies on their merits, sure you might have liked them back in the 80's but now you only like them because of nostalgia or B plots, and calling it bloodless? A man gets blown in half within the first few minutes, The guy with the Fu-man-chu gets his neck broken by an axe kick, Eric Roberts gets a massive knife chucked into his sternum after being shot 6 times and Steve Austin gets FUCKING PUNCHED TO DEATH WHILE ON FIRE. You didnt come here looking for an action flick you came here looking for an homage to them but it IS an 80's style movie. you were looking for a mock 80's style movie with todays kind approach and choreagraphy. It isnt a Kung-fu movie, it isnt a gun movie, its an ACTION movie the first real one in 40 goddamn years, you wanted a goddamn parody not the real deal so if you want to talk about how much you love Predator, Die hard, Rambo, or anything ever again then you better be talking ironically you fat putz.
P.S. Van Damme and Jason Staham are actual martial artists while Jet Li is a pacifist.
I'm confused... not picking on you or anything, but does anyone know who brought up the idea of Scott Pilgrim being a 'hipster' movie? Because I look at it as a movie with a great screenplay, camera-work, fight scenes, and music. I look at it as another version of Kick-Ass, only better. I'll admit that I went to it to see all the video game references, and the fact that there weren't very many and I still enjoyed every last second of it (and it was a looong movie....) is amazing.

Sorry for all the crap you're getting Movie Bob, but perhaps next time try to review a movie with care, because we all know how 'sensitive' yet irrational the internet is when you try to prove your point with a little too much emotion. I agree with you 100% on the review, and hope you don't get flamed out because of all these comments. I'm sure you'll be back next time with a half-assed apology to try and remedy the over-reaction of everyone who just saw The Expendables as an okay movie, cause... you know, anyone who thinks it was a 'good' movie are just wrong. WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Anywho, lets just hope that it doesn't get any awards, cause that confirms even more that the world is coming to an end :/

Didn't even hear about Scott Pilgrim before now. Looking at the synopsis makes me care even less about it, as it sounds even sillier than the idea of getting a load of action stars together and fucking around.

I enjoyed Expendables, incidentally. Not because anyone told me too either, before the mocking bleats come from the self-styled movie watching elite.

He COMPLAINED about it being bloodless? How does blood make a film better unless you're one of those "Hooray violence is great!" kind of people.

Why Movie Bob is angry at the majority of the movie going audience:

You act like babies, bright and glittery things make you smile as you chow down on your popcorn:

Never mind the fact that the crap-ton of pointless and distracting explosions draw away from anything interesting to watch, you want to watch the fire move in the air for a split second.

Never mind that the protagonist is just standing on a hill and holding the trigger of his machine gun down for five minutes of repetitive crap, you want to see the pretty muzzle flashes mixed with shots of objects and terrain being broken up my little explosions!!!

You ignore all of that stuff to concentrate on the important things: not plot, character development, thought-provocation, or anything else that belongs in a GOOD movie. You need to focus on the movie critic that insulted you because you watched a movie!!!HOLY SHIT!!! You just have to jump on a forum and type more words that you have ever strung together before and insult the critic and anything he ever said was good.

As someone above already stated: stupid people love watching stupid crap

...Well, that's a shame. I'm willing to take your word for it on this one. Sorry about SPVTW. In my defense, I've been on a ship for the last week, so I didn't really get a chance to buttress it's opening week. But I'll get to it, I promise. Late-build, long-burn, anyone?

Moviebob, I have finally had it with your pretentious nerd-rage. You think the average moviegoer is a mindless sheep for enjoying a mindless explosionfest while your beloved Scott Pilgrim took fifth on opening weekend. You seem utterly convinced that you're in the right and anyone who disagrees with you is a horrible, ignorant excuse of a person who can go screw themselves.

Grow up, jackass. This is the last review of yours I'm watching.

I saw Scott Pilgrim. And it sucked.
Dude, f*ck you. He can say he's right on his own video. Usually people watch a movie critic if they agree with their opinions, or have similar tastes. Obviously you don't agree with him, so stop b*tching about it you wart on the @ss of society.

If you think Scott Pilgrim sucked, you evidently have no idea what makes a movie good.
Or he has an opinion. Besides, he didn't even say that he disagreed with Bob's Expendables review, he said he didn't appreciate being insulted and treated as if his opinion didn't matter.
I also didn't say anything about him disagreeing with Bob's Expendables Review. I know he has an opinion, but according to his post, it isn't anything like Bob's when it comes to movies. So why does he need to fly off the handle at Bob? Bob didn't make "Undead Dragon King" watch his reviews.
Because, as I mentioned in my previous post, Bob directly insulted people who went to see The Expendables. I (and I imagine him too) don't have a problem with somebody disagreeing with my opinion, I ]do[/i] have a problem with being told that because of my opinion I am, "the worst kind of person."
Go lay down.

I thought it was okay when I saw it, but then again after Scott Pilgrim blew me away I had my standards very low for this one so I guess that might be a reason. I'm going to see Scott Pilgrim again this week just so it can make a little bit more money.
We messed up opening week by not hyping Pilgrim enough, we can at least try our damnedest to keep in in theaters as long as we can.

and dear god... Scott Pilgrim as of now is at #10 in the box office and "Vampires suck" is at #2...

snip about how everyone who likes this movie and defends it are assholes
Im sorry that the expendables wasnt an epiphany sparking movie for you, thats what I would say if you werent a colosal tosser trying to find something complex in a movie that has plot as an afterthought maybe you should go read a book or watch a complicated movie like inception instead of spewing hate at a movie that is just a mind vacation. The expendables isnt Asimov its fucking Sylvester Stallone a porn actor turned action movie star so you can go to hell if you expect something complicated from a movie he directed, wrote and starred in.

Im not reading 25 pages and then writing this, I've skimmed the first page instead.

I'm not defending Bob at all here, but I agree with him totally. THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST FILMS I HAVE EVER SEEN The action is a collection of pollished turds, shit with a shine if you will, the dialogue was awful, Jet-Li looked bored the whole film, Statham was oveplayed, the Bruce Arnie scene was crap. The highlight of the film for me waS Dolph, he seemed like the only one who wasnt taking the whole thing too seriously.

I LOVE 80's action films, they are what I grew up on, they hold a special place in my heart and always will. But it's my loev for 80's action that cements my disgust with this film.

If you want to see a true 80's throwback film, go see Predators instead, THAT was a true 80's action style film, not this cameo filled tripe.

It saddens me too, I think I can understand that some people would see it thinking that it would have been a clever parody of twilight or they just wanted to see how bad it was but if you have money to burn to laugh at a bad movie, why don't you have any movie to spend on something weird, quirky, and above all ORIGINAL like Scott Pilgrim. As I said I'm seeing it again this week...

Wow, this thing has exploded! I mean, I think he went a bit far calling everyone sheep for liking the expendables, but the sheer nerd rage on both sides about their chosen film being the second coming of christ and the other being hellspawn itself is hilarious.
Stay classy guys.
