Even tho it will never win, I am rooting for Toy Story 3 on this one. It was a fantastic movie, and one that could be enjoyed by all generations, because it doesn't sacrifice entertainment to deliver a moving story, which isn't true for most Oscar winners.

To be fair, you knew the academy was going to give Lord of The Rings the green light. They couldn't hand each movie +7 academy awards each year, that would hardly be fair. I see it as those 12 awards for the final film really representing the whole trilogy.

And i actually enjoyed the film. Sure you can smell Oscar bait from a mile away, but I thought it was still good. *raises hand and looks around for approval nervously* And honestly you have to admit that when
he actually gave the speech at the climax
was very intense [at least to me, I never even knew about his story until i saw this movie]. I give it 4 and a half, sue me.

EDIT:

I completely agree with everything you said about the oscars, but The King's Speech was one of the best movie's I've seen in a LONG TIME.
Spot on to what im trying to say, sums up my thoughts completely of the film.

O good lord its so true! Crap like this gets made just to hold a golden man who means nothing. Honestly I avoid the movies that I hear win because it tells me that movie sucked.

Nice one, Bob... but does it really matters what the Oscar people think?
No, not really when you come to think of it!
Would it change your appreciation of your favorite movie if it won an Oscar?
Don't think so!

The Oscar celebration has a whole is shallow.
The media (E.T. & People mag) will spent more covering what the stars are wearing than the actual talent that were in the movies.

The Oscars were never meant for public to understand or agree.
They were meant for ordinary people to worship.

From the stars perspective, it gives them an opportunity to dress well and look good.
An opportunity to shine and to spent time with other people of their industry.
It's a glamor thing from beginning to end. It's like a televised private party.

OK, I may sound as if I'm judging the Oscars and everything, but I don't.
It is was it is and wanting to change it is like asking for something that doesn't exist.
Ish, that doesn't make much sense... overall, you are asking for the Oscars to not be the Oscars... doesn't make more sense to me.
But anyway, they have the right to do what they do and I don't need their industry to recognize my favorite movies as masterpieces.

Plus there are other interesting patterns that are Oscar bait...
- Mentally challenged characters (Forrest Gump, the Awakening, I Am Sam).
- Gorgeous women looking ugly for a role (Monster's ball, Requiem for a Dream, Monster).

But it doesn't matter. There are patterns everywhere anyway.
There are patterns in you and me and everybody as well and that doesn't make us bad or stupid.
At worse, it makes us predictable.

Bob... why do you care so much?

Ouch. Just... ouch.
Still, think I'll watch it just out of curiosity. There aren't many good movies around the theater of my town lately.

Before watching the review, I just wanted to say that everyone I know who saw the movie loved it. From what I keep hearing from you, it's unspectacular, but then again, you watch a ton of movies, so to you it's unspectacular. I'm still gonna see it, though, if I can, and if it's good enough to deserve an Oscar, then so be it.

Seems after the Golden Globes had Ricky Gervais, they need him to go host the Oscars too, or just call in Frankie Boyle or Jerry Sadowitz.

'And the nominations for best actor are ..... all a bunch of overpaid, pampered, egotistical fucknuggets! - What do you mean we're going to an ad break?'

'The nominations for best movie ..... are the ones who slipped the most money to the judging the panel, so long as their movie was in the drama genre'.

I think a remake of 'Gigli' would beat Inception and Toy Story 3, just because it's not sci fi or animated.

All we can really hope is the majority of the public stop caring about text on the dvd cover saying 'Oscar Winner' or 'Nominated for 7 Academy Awards', when it just means 'Could have been a much better movie but we spent half the budget bribing the Oscar judging panel'.

Now I haven't seen The King's Speech, but I can say that even though I haven't the same problem still bothers me. The problem previously mentioned is the lack of genre films that have won Oscars. Well, I guess to be more accurate the lack of genre films to win an award that isn't make-up or special effects. Granted we did have Avatar and District 9, but we almost knew right from the start that they clearly had no chance of winning. I can only hope that eventually people realize that genre film are also capable of great story-telling.

so what about a story where an attractive ballerina overcomes craziness with the help of supporting character who is a polar opposite to her.
Serious leading woman
Slightly funny costar
A strong disapproving mother

I'm serious folks Black Swan's gotta win
[sub]or else I lost a crap load of money[/sub]

Also all those close-minded individuals who called it a porn movie need to eat their words when they see "Best Picture" printed on the label

1)Black Swan
2)The Social Network
3)Toy Story 3
4)True Grit
5)The Fighter
6)Inception
7)The King's Speech
8)The Kids are Alright
9)Winter's Bone
and I haven't seen 127 Hours yet but from what I've heard it might squeeze in at #4

At the risk of sounding like a troll...

Is it me or Bob is angry because his favorite kinds of films (the geek cinema) never gets the mention that he wants?

psrdirector said:
You know what would blow movie bobs mind, find out some people thought social network wasn't a very good movie and doesn't deserve a win cause its not good. People like me, who call it eh.
Not really blow his mind. What would blow is mind is like saying "Yeah, the Oscars were right to not put The Dark Knight in the best picture category".

He made a whole video on how he was pissed about it.

This has to be the best instructional fishing video I have ever seen.

I had to think about it for a while. but it is all completely true. I never paid much attention to the Oscars (or any other entertainment award ceremonies) because its mostly if not all completely biased and possibly rigged (ESPECIALLY with peoples choice awards). anyway, great instructional video, truly entertaining.

TBF Geoffrey Rush deserves something after Peter Sellers, Casanova Frankenstein and Captain Barabbas.

Who could have though an apple or a pinky finger could have caught the audience by the throat?

I'm calling shinanigans on his Oscar bait. I just checked the winners for the last ten winners of best picture, and guess what, none of them had anything to do with half of the points he covered.

All I'm saying is that it's pretty easy to pick a movie that is very successful and say "See, see, this is the same movie that always wins!"

I know that I might seem that I'm trying to rip really hard on MB (that wasn't as creepy in my head), but he does have reason to be upset because it's true that certain types of movies will rarely win. I just don't think that only a specific formula is what impresses critics.
