I've thought the premise of this movie was astonishingly retarded the moment I heard about it. Of course, most of my friends thought this movie sounded great and intelligent. I'm glad my opinions were founded. lol

For some reason Mitt Romney Starring in slasher flick sounds like it could go really well.

Sooo.. I don't they thought through the ramifications of this Purge on the economy. How about the days or weeks it will take to repair whatever was broken in this period? The buildings needing to be repaired, the bodies needing to be dealt with, services needing to be restored.. the list goes on. Yeah. Plot, meet hole.

For some reason whenever I see anyone in a mask like that, I just find it stupid, not scary. That said, I actually was intrigued by the idea of The Purge, but never thought it really looked good enough for me to want to see it. I kind of agree with what other people have said here that maybe it would have worked better as a TV show.

It could kinda pull the 24 route and have each season be 12 episodes each representing a single hour during the yearly purge. You could get out a lot more characterization, and even have a bunch of different connecting storylines ala Heroes going on.

Honestly, that's a show I would watch. Maybe in 10 years when everyone forgets about this movie entirely we'll see it get resurrected as something watchable.

Okay, after looking this movie up on Wikipedia to try and see how much of the plot twists I guessed correctly (most of them) Here are two things I learned about this movie that I do find kinda funny

1. Karen Strassman (voice of Aigis for my Persona fans) is the newscaster in this movie and

2. Flo from Progressive is credited on the wikipedia page as "Person who Dies First."

So...y'know...I found that a little funny. Still not gonna see the movie though.

What's the "boyfriend subplot" that he mentions in the stinger? I haven't seen the movie and I have no desire to, but I'm curious what's going on with that.
Well according to Wikipedia...

The daughter's boyfriend snuck into their house before the purge started, claiming he was going to try and convince her dad to let them be together. However, the boyfriend instantly tries to kill the dad, the dad ends up killing him and...that's it...dead boyfriend

I would actually have liked to see a 24(the series)-style series based on this day, in this universe. Get a full 24-hour experience of the complete crazy that would ensue, and also have plenty of time to properly explore the many facinating aspects of this imagined world!

When I saw the trailer for this I thought to myself, "that looks stupid." Apparently, sometimes you really can tell from the trailer what the film will be like.

Man of Steel next Friday though, so I hope that's as awesome as it's trailers suggest.

...Yeah I've already seen The Strangers and it was good and there's a reason why there isn't a sequel.

I'm a little disappointed because I was hoping for a little more out of this movie. Much like we're seeing a change in music from party, party, party club music to tunes with at least a LITTLE thought to their lyrics, I've been hoping for some change in movies as well to something...not Transformers? Does that make any sense. And I think we've been seeing that a little, but...

*sigh* I hope for too much, I know.

When I first saw the trailer, I immediately grouped this movie in with the Schadenfreude wank material that is Hostel, Saw, Human Centipede, etc, just written by a Freshman philosophy major who thinks something like this is a grand idea.

I don't subscribe to the idea that we're all perverted demons on the inside, and the only thing keeping us from raping and eating each other is the belief that the man upstairs is watching. By the end of the trailer my eyes had rolled out of my head.

But I didn't stop to think that this movie could have been smart at one time, actually exploring themes of class and privilege instead of revelling in the angry adolescent fantasies we all grow out of, and I am rather disappointed now that it turned into "Taken" meets "The Strangers".

Not that I ever would have seen this anyway.

I don't like Romney and I don't like obama either. now that I made my position clear I have one question. What exactly did mentioning romney do to add to this review?

I saw trailers for this and thought it looked cool. Too bad it's a disappointment...

Whoa, whoa, wait... "his young SON takes pity on a wounded homeless man"... Don't you mean his DAUGHTER?! At least, I THOUGHT it was his daughter from the trailers.
