I like Transformers. AND YES. EVEN THE BAYSPLOSIONS. And I like Shia, too.

WHY SHOULD I NOT VOTE AND DRIVE BOB?
I think his point is that people who don't engage in critical thought before acting would be dangerous behind the wheel of a car or in a voting booth. And he is completely correct. Go on, disprove that without using critical thinking :p.

Although I agree that it comes off as 'Transformers fans are stupid - end of.' which is hardly a critical assessment.

OT: I haven't seen the film, nor the one before it, precisely because I've never seen a good argument or reason for this film is better than any other featuring explosions and the like.

I can see why an unthinking, anti-critical mass attending movies which are sub-par in most departments would be annoying for someone whose job it is to criticize movies. Use the 'I like to turn my brain off...' argument all you like, your personal preferences are your own, but don't expect to not be called out for making mediocre shite successful.

Best part about this film was the fact that this trilogy is over.
Wrong. http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/785702/transformers_4_definitely_happening_without_michael_bay.html

Hasbro confirmed there would be more back in Feb, However Michael Bay may not be directing it.
Will someone else be writing it too?

Because there is plenty of blame to go around here.
No idea, I have read that Steven Speilsperg may be Directing it, or he is at least Hasbro's prime choice besides Michael

After the 2nd movie raped my childhood I have written off this series. I wouldn't go this film if someone else bought the ticket, the snacks, dinner after and Jessica Alba was my date.

First time watching Escape to the Movies. Just putting that out there.

The thing is, does it make a person elitist to want a film with effort put into it? Does it make a person elitist to want the giant robots, estensively the whole idea behind this movie, to be the center of the plot? Does it make a person elitist to want a mature story with characters we care about?

Then damnit, call me an elitist, because apparently my standards are too far above that of normal people as to be considered rational. And that's fine by me.

It's actually insane that the soldiers are sent into these conflicts in the first place - a thought that first occurred to me when watching a giant robot casually flick multiple helicopters out of the sky at some point early on in the second movie. Given the overwhelming superiority of the opposition why the hell are the military sending in infantry to take them on?

...or is it unwise to try and look for logic in a Transformers movie?

I fell asleep when watching the second movie, actually in the middle of an action sequence, which is a first for me. I don't think I'll be seeing the third.

And I hope Captain America is good, if only for Bob's sake.

These movies did NOT rape my childhood. Why? Because I see them as cheap, poorly made tributes to what it was.
Don't like the tribute? Go watch/listen to the original.

I absolutely adored this review though. The way Bob talks about Bay's military fetish is awesome and rivals even Yahtzee's rants! I love it!
I will watch this movie though so that I can form my own opinion. ...when it comes out on DVD. I'll pay 3.50? for it, not 10? tyvm.

You see i agree with you. I admit (even though i enjoy the films) that the Transformers SHOULD be given more screen time, But in this day and age i doubt that will happen, Movies rarely follow the aliens as being the main characters, only Cartoons can really pull that off =\

Butr meh, lets a hope we will eventually get a movie like this...

Bob, if it makes you feel better, I won't watch crap movies, because "not as bad" isn't the same as "good enough." :) My time is valuable, and I fill it with valued time. So I say, Kudos to having movie standards. Bay is on my list of directors of movies I just won't watch- following just after M. Night Shamalamadingdong.

I did a cursory google search, and nothing I saw stood out. I'm curious too. But with 5 pages in this thread so far, I'm sure someone will have said it somewhere. :)

I am reminded of Bill Hicks's bit-- "People say, 'Don?t be hard on the New Kids [on the Block], Bill. They?re good kids. They?re role models.' When did banality and mediocrity become good examples for your children? They are demons sent to the earth to LOWER THE STANDARD."

And so it goes.
Two bona fide Hicks videos coming up, sir!

And so the message spreads...
Fantastic.

Though it should be noted; those videos have extremely NSFW language.
Well, I thought the title of the first video "Play From Your Fucking Heart" was enough to convey that message on its own...

Still, thank you for covering that base!

Good point-but you can never be too careful with these sorts of things.

/Personally I have no objection of course; I've been a fan of Mr Hicks for nearly fifteen years.
