The ONLY good movie to ever come out of my wretched country, but boy is it a good one... See it everyone, seriously... It's also the best piece of work Otto Jespersen has ever done.

Looks like a really interesting movie, can't wait to see it, but Bob those felt like too spoilery flashes of the movie, specially the last one.

Man, this movie was a big deal over here when it came out. A great watch and it's awesome to see Bob giving it the recognition it, in my opinion, deserves.

It's nice that Norwegian film makers can now afjord to make big movies.
I wonder if they'll make an abridged version
Sure will be a mountainous task.
The Puns! They burn!

Is this movie in English or subtitled? And to follow up, should I bring my kids?
Based on the shot where a troll blows up and showers a bridge with gibs in the video... I would say no to the kids question.
Hmmm, why? The old fairytales are - simply put - horrific. Little Red Riding Hood anyone? The wolf friggin eats the grandma, steals her clothes and tries to attack LRRH. The old trollstories, where Espen Askeladd (don`t know a good translation to his name) either has a eating contest with trolls and makes them commit friggin seppuku, or his brothers are punished with having cuts in their back and salt poured into the wounds, are pretty graphic when it comes to violence. Yet they are seen as traditional folk tales. Which kinda brings the question of why it`s worse showing it, than making the kid in question make up their own horrific images of the stuff the are read before bedtime.

Man, I'm hoping you will review Iron Sky. [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1034314/] It is always interesting to hear you talk about nordic material. I'm finnish myself. ^^
During the entire review, I asked myself "Will Bob review Iron Sky once it comes out?" I can't wait for that movie, I've been an eager fan for the last two years.

OT: This looks awesome and I'd like to see this movie. Pity it will probably never be shown in my country.

And to people asking is it in English; why would it have to be in English? Subtitles are your friend.

The clips are from the trailer, so I don't think you need to worry about it.

Totally agree with this, saw it a while back. Although he did seem to show a lot of the best bits of the film in those clips.

EDIT- ah its all in the trailer? My bad never saw the trailer, I'm glad I didn't.

Awesome! I was hoping this film would get a US release soon. Can't wait to check it out.

Also Bob, you're not missing much with "Priest". Matthew Buck ("Film Brain") of ThatGuyWithTheGlasses said it was horrible.
Really? (omnipresent picture of a wide-eyed owl, perhaps with some facial distortion via photoshop, accompanied by proudly misspelled meme "O RLY?") And what do you think? Bob is my favorite critic, in any medium, and I believe he has more thoughtful insight than any other, at least that I'm aware of. But I thought his failure to address the lack of depth and purpose behind Sucker Punch resulted in a misfire, and I disagree with his assessment of some of Roland Emmerich's later films.

Point is, you should never take anything a critic says, no matter how good (s)he is, as gospel. Hell, Ebert gave a thumbs up to Batman and Robin and Speed 2: Cruise Control.

Are you guys trying to make a pun bomb in all comments? Because I should warn you that doing so can have very explosive drawbacks....wait. Damn.
Stop it. All of you. Right now. It's not funny anymore.
We watched this movie at school here in norway couple'o months ago, thats how we roll. It's nice with a break from dodging polar bears all the time.

How much of this film is done in the shakey handycam style?
If it's too much it will just piss me off and make me motion-sick.

ot: The picture reminded me that Thane Krios from ME2 is totally a knockoff of Abe Sapien from Hellboy.

Not too many scenes, thankfully - but(!) there are a few moments where you as a viewer go "FFS, you have the nightvision thingy on the cam..USE IT!!"

I like that you stick up for the indies, Bob! How about you review a Swedish movie next, I just can't stand having the Norwegians' movie get reviewed and not one of ours :( How about the girl with the dragon tattoo?

I really, really, really, really want to see this, but I don't get On Demand. Got it saved on my Netflix queue, though, in case I can't find any nearby festivals that are playing it.

Don't worry Bob, for every 10 internet redliners out there, you have at least 20 guys sick of Hollywood bullshit, who simply can't wait for your next review.

I got the chance to see this a month ago. MovieBob mentioned it a while back and I couldn't resist. The last time I did that, I got to see Moon, best damn SF of the century. Troll Hunter though is so-so at first look, but slowly grows on you after you see it. While it's tempting to compare it to Cloverfield, because of the way it's filmed, a better comparison would be District 9. The main message of both movies is that our society can turn any fantasy and magic into something mundane and controlled. Whatever incredible and life-changing experience you might have, the rest of the world simply doesn't care and, after a few media frontpages, everything will just be absorbed into everyday boring normal life. Anyone here remember the first images of Afghanistan being bombed 10 years ago? Anyone still care for what's going on in Libya? We're accustomed with the tragedy of wars being fought elsewhere, and care more about some royal wedding or Lady Gaga meat costume.

But surely, if something really unique happened in this world, we'd care, right? Wrong. Aliens showing up over your city? Just build a ghetto for them and let some social workers deal with the problem. Ancient trolls smashing up your countryside? A simple pest control should do. Hire a hunter for a few bucks and let him deal with them. Gone are the old heroes, gone is the magic of the old tales and hopes. And the movie painfully shows that.
