Escapist Editors in the Midst of an Exodus?! -Updated-

I mean, I always have halfchan and infinitychan to go to for game and anime discussion. But damned if I won't miss this place if it vanishes. This thread is a good example why as even the people that I don't always get along with, I'm actually particularly attached to them and this place. I don't the these forums will vanish overnight and we may even get a whole bunch of fresh blood in the contributors.

So not everything is lost yet. Let's weather out the storm and see what happens when things settle down before we all go looking for other sites.

There is probably a decrease in traffic, as such a decrease in ad-revenue and then to save costs people need to leave. That is how every business operates. I see this site surviving though relying solely on content creators that actually generate traffic(like Yahtzee). Whoever runs the Escapist(or the entire cluster of entertainment sites its part of) is/are probably content keeping Yahtzee on board and offering him decent compensation, one I think he's content with considering the only real alternative is a Youtube channel which is so uncertain and oversaturated that I think he favors a steady paycheck.

But yeah, without Yahtzee though this site would be in bad shape. Wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the plug if he made some..'unexpected' moves.

I hope this doesn't mean the end of this place. While I'm not the most outspoken voice in this place, I would miss it very much. I've been here since before 2009, but that's when I signed up and started to talk to people.

I haven't found another place quite like this, lets just weather this and hold out hope for something good to happen.

Even thought I don't post much here, I love these forums. Like other people have said there's simply no other forum out there that's like this one Well if the worst is to happen I may have to flee to CDPR forums, even thought their forums only focus on a few games it's the closest forums that felt like the escapist. But seriously I really hope this forum stays alive.

Goddamn, I genuinely don't know what I'd do without this place, as sad as that sounds. Hopefully this is a downsizing with the intent of survival rather than the beginning of the end, though as they say hope for the best but prepare for the worst, tonight I'll be checking I've got back-ups of creative writing and other things here in-case anything sudden happens :-/

Well that sucks, thanks a lot Defy :/ . Can someone tell me if we all decide where to fall back to if this site goes tits up or becomes garbage? Someone mentioned the Brovengers being a hub for talking about it but my chances of getting in that group are... not good. At this juncture Yahtzee could probably single-handedly kill the site if he felt like it.

I always felt like that was the case anyway but....well anyway

I don't have the traffic figures or anything, but I think that they could have survived Yahtzee departing if they had Moviebob, Extra Credits and Jim Sterling.

Now though? Not so much.

Not that I think Yahtzee is about to move on or anything. He seems entirely content to keep collecting paychecks and does a good job of steering clear of drama. But I can only imagine that it makes the money men a bit nervous when they think about how much their revenue depends on the whims of a single person.

I've really enjoyed my time here, and I really enjoy the community that this place has built, and even though this website has been bleeding talent for a while now, I never thought that they would get rid of Greg. I just don't know if there is a substitute for this place.

I don't recall this much of a commotion when any of the other EiCs left. Defy has yet to release an official statement so I'd hold on before freaking out. If any Defy site goes down first, it would probably be GameFront. This is most likely the result of some restructuring, nothing to really worry about.

It may also have to do with a possible merger, due to the simultaneous layoffs on the different sites. Hardly what I'd call "the end".

Like, where else to go? Nowhere else has as good of a forum system as Escapist, the people are good and it's the right mix of fun and serious talk without crazy mods or no mods. Argh.
