Wait for Continent of the Ninth/Jumpgate Evolution.

Or spend some time on Air Rivals / Global Agenda.

If you want a game with progression, but of a different genre, I really recommend checking out League Of Legends [http://eu.leagueoflegends.com/]. I have to say, I too have tried all the games you've mentioned, and am still in that stage you mentioned above, and these MOBA genre games (if you invest enough time to understand and get good at them) are probably the most rewarding games in existence, and ofc it's free.

As a bonus, if you're an EU player, I'll introduce you to the game, give you some tips and do some practice matches with you - I haven't played in a while thanks to someone linking me to TVTropes [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage]...

[sub]Sorry, there goes your next week anyone who clicks that link...[/sub]

There's a new MMORPG coming up called RIFT. Don't know when it's released or anything. Just saw a thread made about it yesterday and the ideas for it seemed quite nifty.

RuneScape is sort of free, I don't pay for it and it advertises itself as the world's no. 1 free MMORPG, i've been playing for about a month and it's really fun.

The problem with MMOs is that they're all like WOW. If you've become tired of MMOs, play one with a different feel
STO is supposed to have properly grasped eve's concept without screwing everything over
DC universe online is more fast-paced than your standard MMO, though I'm not sure you can still get into the beta
If you want to wait a while, Neverwinter is supposed to change things up (though I would be a bit suspicious about this one as they haven't said how. Also, I hate 4th edition).
City of heroes/villains is still going strong
Other than that, nothing off the top of my head. That Elder Scrolls MMO would have been nice, though.

Also, if you're only interested in playing for a little bit, RuneScape can be fun, but it grinds A LOT.

You could try Guild wars( or wait for Guild wars 2 )( I recommend Guild Wars )
The old republic will also be out in a year or so, and ive beta-tested, and I gotta say, it is VERY fun

If you do not want to buy the games, or pay monthly fess, you could try Twelve Sky2 or land of chaos online, both are free and are only a free download away, although the download takes alot of memory...
You could try Wizard101 although it is very "kiddy" and is generally made for younger gamers, though older gamers can enjoy it aswell

You could also try Spore, although it doesn't go online until the final stages of the game ( which you can get to in around 3-5 hours of playing )

If you want a browser based MMO, then i suggest AdventureQuest Worlds or Runescape as they are the best you may get looking into browser based

Star wars: Galaxies is out already and pretty cheap to buy, but it has a monthly fee of around £20.
You could even try World of Warcraft again, ive heard it has changed alot since the cataclysm expansion but there is still that monthly fee business

A few games ive heard of but dont actually know much about are:
Flyff
Atlantica
Gaia online

Hope you find an MMO you like.

Guild Wars

I don't have a lot of MMORPG experience, but this game works great as single MMO if you like not having to rely on others. It is also free from monthly payments...and inexpensive to pick up these days. That said, it is somewhat dated (coming out a year or two after WOW) with the sequel coming out as early as 2011.

If your looking to go outside of the box and leave the fantasy setting Pirates of the Burning Sea went free to play recently Its not super easy to learn but the RvR and naval combat can be a lot of fun. i highly recommend at lest trying it out.

For fantasy mmo's I'm currently playing the trial for Age of Conan pretty fun so far.

As for those saying Guild Wars, while i used to find it fun to play it really doesn't full fill
the requirements of a mmo (or at lest to me) its more of a multiplayer role playing game

not to be offensive, but I'm not touching Runescape with a 1000ft pole, purely made out of a million incredible hulks and iron men, which are then set on fire and have over 10,000,000 somethings of electricity shot directly through them, even this conversation is dangerously close.

I might pick myself up a copy of it, I asked my local store but I they didn't have it, I will try again. But isn't Guild Wars 2 coming out soon? Should I wait for that if it will be better.

Guild Wars was great fun when it came, haven't played it in years though. No monthly fees, and you can play as a necromancer :p

id say this, if your unwilling to actually TRY Vin,(and from the sound of it, you haven't) Requiem is fun, bloody and not uncommon to see a head or limb roll or bounce away from the corpse :D fair warning, it can, in fact, be brutal, but by and large manageable (i stopped playing cause the launcher stopped working >.> had the same issue with DDO to)

Maplestory just got the Big Bang update. Everything is better now, so I'd strongly suggest that you give that game another shot. Really, pretty much everything people have complained about with the game over the years have been fixed these last couple of months.
Yea but I hate Nexon, they are asses who don't care for their player base. You have proved my point with your comment, why would it take them years to get around to fixing massive problems when it would only take them a few months. All these new classes are annoying as hell with their ridiculous damage, flashy skills, actual story lines and more. Instead of just adding in a bunch of new classes who are really only a previous class with flashy skills and increased damage, why wouldn't they let the people who stuck with the game for years win? There were players who spent years getting to level 200, players who really deserved it, but they just got spat on when they are out damaged and out leveled by some 11 year old git who picked they strongest class.
