I, too, can become soured on an overexposed product. Sorry, nothing in an advertisement would be able to convince me to buy a game. That's why there are demos, dev blogs, gameplay footage, and post-release, LP videos and reviews.
We've all been burned by the hype machine. I generally avoid buying any new games at release. There are just too many other resources that aren't controlled by soulless, evil, privacy-raping advertisers. With the internet being so pervasive and information so easy to access, advertising is (hopefully) a dying field. All of these full-page pop-up Flash ads, annoying auto-play sounds and video, et al, are just the ad agencies desperately trying to prove they're still relevant.
As to the posters asking why a certain browser plug-in is not to be mentioned here, I'm guessing it's because if representatives from ad agencies realize everyone on the site uses...that certain plug-in, they'll pull their revenue out because no one's seeing the ads.
So, if you want to keep posting here, you have to go along with the act and at least pretend you look at the ads. Posts bitching about them are actually a good way to do that. You may like it, you may hate it, but you saw it and it's in your head.
