I think the bigger mystery is how he got so popular.

Well I was one of the ones who didn't plead for his friendship. For a misanthrope he certainly had lots of Escapist buddies. His friend's list should've resembled mine, or less.

As well as that, where the moderation team keeps their banhammers when they aren't in-use. I'm fairly certain Ultrajoe keeps his in places unfit for mortals, but what about the others?

Well as we don't all use hammers, we choose a storage of our own. Ultrajoe's Dominator.. yeah, you don't want to know. Seriously. My sword is stored in my mop, which is in turn kept in a special rack I had built.. out of souls bound to metal, obviously. Wilson has an eternal fire burning in which his Sausage-Onna-Stick rests when not in use. No idea about the others as it's not the kind of question which pops up around our office Liquid Awesome cooler.

He traverses the Vast Infinite web offering support to the mysterious FeNinja. Companion craps are cool like that. There's probably sushi involved somewhere, he loves to get back at the sodding fish.

The Thanks! badge is a mystery to all but the Staff. Don't question it for naught but calamity lies down that investigatory path. Rumour has it that forum members can subtly hint that others should receive it if sufficient evidence for their contribution can be found and the right people whispered to. Mistaken suggestions are.. unpleasant.

Edit: The important thing to understand about the Thanks! badge is there is no one way to obtain it. Everyone who has received theirs has done so for different reasons. Hence the air of mystery about it.

Edit of the edit: In fact, scratch the mystery part. Everyone who has been thanked has been done so because they've been a positive influence on this site and their presence here has resulted in the site's improvement in someway. That's the whole idea of the Thanks! badge, and hence why there is no official way to obtain it. It's awarded for individual contributions to making the Escapist a better place.

Sushi is spicy rice, not fish, raw fish is Sashimi.

Hmm.. I got one, sorta. How do the mods decide who to make a Red Guard? and when do they decide they need more. xD Tis a mystery to me.

Choosing a mod is normally decided months in advance, basically they don't know that they are on a probationary period, at which point the way they act on the site is reviewed.

LaCoil and Baby_tea were chosen because of their impeccable records, also LaCoil is the best of our friends down under which allowed her to slay trolls at "strange o clock" when the yank admins are asleep.

UltraJoe was grew in a lab from stem cells of NilCypher and LaCoil, Kuliani wanted the most badass machine ever created to moderate the forum, unfortunately things went awry and UltraBoy grew up sexless and shunned by lesser beings... it made him/her stronger though and he/she had the Ultra rub.

Everything he/she touched turned Ultra.

Kuliani is the one who picks Red Guard. To paraphrase something he said a while ago, he chooses them based on how long they have been here, how responsibly they have behaved, and how reasonable and mature their opinions are. He picks new ones when the current team isn't able to efficiently manage the entire forums.
