Hello escapist I need your opinion on a matter that has been bothering for well since I quit. I had a Girl Friend and she wanted me to quit WoW, because she was jealous of it. So I quit for the greater good and not long after I did we broke up. Of course I hadn?t gone back yet... But now a question plagues me should I go back?
Cataclysm is out and I have many friends who play it and all say it?s amazing and its making it harder, I can?t say I missed WoW but there were several times I sat around just not knowing what to do. When I played I was at my prime level 80 5.9k gear score(for those who know what that meant) guild leader, the whole bunch, I was having so much fun and I been able to manage. But now I feel like I really want to go back but for some reason this question is very difficult for me to yay or nay.
So question, should I return to WoW?

Sincerely Archereus

Me and my best friend are considering getting into WoW.

My friend's girlfriend was like, "Oh, god no! It's so lame and nerdy! Come ooon!" and then she looked at me, "Seriously, don't encourage him.", to which I said, "Fuck it, we're playing World Of Warcraft."

We're not entirely sure, and she was sort of joking. Would anyone recommend it?

EDIT: Also, yeah OP, go for it. For shits and giggles.

I feel bad for you but only because you had to come here for approval to return to something you obviously care about based on what somebody else made you do. Do what makes you happy man.

I wouldn't
Although it depends on the more specific details of your problem, the main question being:
HOW addicted were you?
If it wasn't that bad, I wouldn't worry about going back, but if you have an addictive personality like me;
avoid it like death.
I've wasted many a day playing that game. Then I ran out of money to pay for it, stopped playing, and noticed how much more free time I had on my hands.
Course that is just one mans opinion.

Just for the record, when I read the title, I instantly thought, "Wear a condom!"

OT: I would say no, just so you can have a life.

Wait for The Old Republic. You'll have the added advantages of playing a new game from a company that makes good products. OOO! I'M HATING ON WOW AND BLIZZARD IN FAVOUR OF BIOWARE!!!

But seriously I would say don't go back, if you playing actually was a big enough problem back then maybe it's a bad idea to jump in again. On the other hand if it was a 5 hour a week habit and she was just looking to ***** about something indulge, it's not my taste but whatever.

If it's a hangout rather than your boredom reliever then I would encourage it. I watch movies with friends and, used to, play FPS's with them at a LAN centre. WoW is just the venue you guys use to get together id that is the case.

That is one of the things leaning me to the no side,i wasn't ever addicted to it, but i always felt an obligation to show up, you know for raids, guild leading purposes yada yada yada. But i had free time, i work full time, when to school, had a gf all during this time, so i wasn't bad...i think.

if you truly enjoyed it when you were playing, and your only reason for quitting is that your girlfriend forced you to, and if you still have friends playing, then by all means give it a try. i don't see where the question is here.

If you want to play it, its your choice, you shouldn't let girlfriends of the past control your way of life

Beh.

I've played WoW for a while, and was contemplating not getting Cata, but I got it, and its kinda fun, but I haven't fully experienced it yet.
At this time, there are alot of other games out there that you can play that don't require as much dedication, and Cataclysm has alot of new fun things, but its still WoW. No amount of expansions will change that.

I don't really want to get into what mechanics have changed since I have no idea when you left, and how much you don't know, so I'll just say that mechanics-wise, its really different compared to Wotlk.

Get it if you wanna play with your friends.
Don't get it if you're just going to play it by yourself; WoW is a social game, and if you don't enjoy that aspect of it, you don't enjoy it at all.

If you DO decide to go back, hit me up so I can refer you, get a sweet mount, and we both get a month of free time :D

Women are fun. Women are jealous. Thus women want to make everything that isn't them, unfun.

Alright then, back to grifting old people out of their retirement pension! I enjoy that SO MUCH.

Seriously, guys, friends, buds. Don't make the mistake of thinking that your own happiness is the only important thing in life. It is ONE important thing, but others, especially certain others, should be happy too.

If you got so into WoW that it hurt a very important real life relationship, maybe you should stay away from that kind of game?

Agreed, happiness without disrupting the happiness of others is what I should have said.

Its like anything. If you can do it while keeping the rest of your life in balance, then its just another pastime. If you can't, then its like anything that monopoloises your time. And I hear levelling is piss easy now anyway
