I don't think anyone misses march madness :p
Shame, the idea had good intentions but ultimately it was less about sharing why you love the games of a dev and more about why other dev is crap and yours is unquestionably the best and anyone who disagrees is a retarded alien from mars with bad taste to boot. I will never forget that one poster who was so shocked at me saying I cared little for blizzard strategy games and preferred relic that s/he was all shaken and they commented "Please leave this site...We don't want or need people like you here." Sadly am still around to ruin people's day and flaunt my bad taste :/

Oh hey that counted as a war story I guess.

Oh geez, it's been so long and the Zeel thing was during a period of inactivity for me (much to my regret).

The events that I've probably witnessed was that one March Madness that was almost won by Zynga. Other than that I believe I can recall the attack of a particular troll from 4chan that posted some rather disturbing images of the non-sexual variety.

The Extra Credits fiasco springs to mind. Shit hit the fan that day.

I don't really remember anything else that big. There's been some pretty heated forum discussions recently though (White Guy Defense Force).

Holy fuck sticks Batman! You joined in 2012 and you have 15542 posts. My post count is bad, and I should feel bad too.

OT- I was here for the Extra Credits debacle, ME3 shit storm, I saw "Zeal" pop up in the thread about perma-banned members after someone had lamented him... only to be perma-banned again later that day, and the wave of "feminism' threads (such as women in combat MOS in the US military, general equality, and most recently the Anita Sarkeesian emergence). I am probably missing some, but these are the memorable ones and as we have seen I am not the most active forum member.

Edit- Also March Madness, every time... I seen some shit. D:

Let's see.

There was the whole Mellow Leprechauns debacle. Admittedly, that was a lot of fun, even if it was a big pain for the staff/moderators at the time.

<url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Caramel+Frappe>Frappeface (I mean it endearingly) and I have had our fair share of kerfuffles in the past.

There was a "war" between a bunch of members that I was tangentially involved in, although I'm not going to name any names of that one. Most of them don't visit anymore, but ... I'm still going to err on the side of caution. Let's just say back-channels and off-site methods were abused.

Those are the ones I haven't seen mentioned. That I can remember vividly.

The only stand out was when the only person i had "friended" on here, Kortney [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Kortney] was hit by a car and passed away.

I do remember a lot of events that have already been mentioned.

Seen a good number of users whose posts I enjoyed banned, but not too many. Apparently I missed the best times of this site. But it still hasn't even changed much since 2011 to me. Never really went "downhill" either; seems like a lot of people like to say that, and I just don't agree.

Anyways, it's hard to recall much in detail when you're kind of just an occasional lurker/poster. But I'm still around after two years and it's almost been three at this point, so that's something. Second forum community I bothered to stick around in for longer than a month or two.

I recognize all those events except for that one. What was Mellow Leprechauns? I'm sure I was there for it but do I know it under a different name or was it on the down-low so I wasn't there?

Extra credits, yeah. Mind you, I didn't even particularly like them, but still.

Danyal starting dozens of different threads which he hoped would segue into people hating Muslims or saying beastiality was ok.

Do you remember Furburt, Hubilub, MilkyFresh, LordCuthberton, and the like? When many of them got banned from the site, they created their own with the initial principle goal of raising as much havoc here under alternate accounts as they could.

So they did. For months. As their friend -- and at the time, not a full-moderator; I could only do User Reviews back then -- it was pretty funny to watch and hear their stories.

Everyone said what I had in my mind, so gonna go with the release of Modern Warfare 2. So many threads on it went on for like 2-3 months because the game was completely stupid and it split up the site between "this game sucks" and "just enjoy it for what it is".

Oh yeah....good times :D

I was not involved in the forum all that much so I vaguely remember it. I learned more about it after the fact.

Man, I think I lurk wrong. I missed basically everything besides the whole ME3 debacle, Bronies "invading", and then the extra credits controversy. And I've been here nearly 4 years now! (jesus christ 4 years? I signed up when I was 13? wow.)

It is a shame how DVS got banned though. He and daystar are the only regulars I recognized, and DVS was an excellent pun-smith.

Having been here since 2008, I've seen my fair share of drama from this site. March Mayhem was always a madness to behold. Bans left and right every single year and for the amount of effort that it needed, it wasn't worth it, considering only veteran members really got the warnings and the newbies that came for the contest rarely stuck around.

Oh, another time was when the Extra Credits crew left. That was a big kerfuffle.

I'm not sure if I missed Zeal or Zeel or was just young to understand what was happening. All I know is, I really wish I could have been there. His rants on Mass Effect are legendary in their level of insanity, or so I've heard. Really should have paid more attention

I got into one of the most civil debates about which Fallout was better between 3 and NV with TheLostKing. We each brought points and just finally agreed to disagree on which was better. Same happened with a BF3 argument on being able to purchase levels with money. I said bullshit he disagreed on the argument of skill playing a massive part on how effective they are even with high level gear. Same happened as the last argument in the end.

I did also post a very unpopular opinion on the kid who got arrested for threatening to shoot up a school after a bad game of LoL. My post was the first post to the news article. I woke up every day to like 3 or so quotes from it. I eventually stopped responded and vowed never to post on threads that involve sexism, peoples' rights, and other heavily debated topics every again.
Oh man, you missed Zeel?! He was so awesome! Every single Bioware thread he was there, arguing adamantly with about five different people never conceding defeat even when he was wrong, which was most of the time.

He dodged bans, came back from bans, rising from the ashes like some sort of Terminator. He was there for I think months until he finally got permabanned. Then he came back for one final post on like gay rights or something, pissed off about everyone in the thread with one single post then was IMMEDIATELY permabanned again.

Thus ends the saga of Zeel.
Did he take the side of Bioware or was he arguing against them. None of the people who talk about say.

I do remember his little comeback when he said something along the lines of "You couldn't be talking about this handsome devil could you?" in a banned thread and then that same day he was gone.

These "wars" are text and I feel they all take place in our minds.
Here's something that sprung to mind. Not to offend anyone but I go by this thought from Kurt Vonnegut.

Electronic communities build nothing. You wind up with nothing. We are dancing animals. How beautiful it is to get up and go out and do something. We are here on Earth to fart around. Don't let anybody tell you any different.
The one thing I'll always remember is a random act of kindness from a user, which was seeded in these forums and one day physically materialized at the steps of my apartment. That was substantial. Everything else is passing time, in a very safe and comfy kind of way.

Off topic. I'm a member of the website that Furb, Demented and Hub founded after their ban :p It's a pretty chill place.

Yes. Them :D Thier site is still alive but it's not really that active. It's still fun though from time to time.

I remember when the Escapecraft multiplayer server tried to start a video series on here and then after 2 videos and an unofficial video kindly made for them by Nasrin the whole thing fell apart because the video editor vanished with half the files they needed.

I also remember Extra Credits, MM 4Chan invasion, MLP, Anita Sarkezian, Mass Effect 3's Ending... I've been around for a while but the thing that sticks out to me the most is the perpetual menace (and joy) of EternalNothingness [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/EternalNothingness]'s threads. Those things are side splittingly funny every time to the point I think there are now 2 or more dedicated gifs that people have made just to be posted on those threads.
