Escapist, what is your level of athleticism?

Pretty simple. How would you rate your athletic ability? Are you a specimen of human physicality? Always picked last in P.E.? Most of us I imagine would fall somewhere in the middle of those two extremes.

As for myself, I would say I have decent, but not necessarily great athletic ability. My fitness level I would say is pretty good. I can pass the physical evaluation for police, and if not for a blister on my foot flaring up I would have passed to most recent pack test for wildland firefighting. I can move with alacrity when I need to. I can run for a long period without tiring.

Herculean. Need someone to throw that discus? I'm your guy.

Seriously though I am just average at everything athletic. Reliable goalkeeper so I was always picked sixth or so in P.E haha.

I'm average, I guess.

I walk to work everyday which takes about two hours altogether so that keeps me relatively fit. I couldn't run a marathon but I don't get out of breath climbing stairs.

Also, my calf muscles are pretty bitchin' now.

I once broke a car window playing basketball...

...in an indoor gym.

Need I say more?

Can't run very well because of my knee but I can do road marches all day. I can hike up mountains well enough, I'm just going to have trouble walking later.

Not in too bad of shape overall, I'd say.

I once scored the winning goal in a pretty heated but unofficial game of Basketball at my highschool.

Since then, nothing.

Decent I guess.

I'm actually starting to train for this neat 5k zombie run that's taking place in November. I did okay the last time I did it, and I'm trying to do better this time around.

Sadly, I haven't jogged in over four months due to me being super busy, so this should be fun.

Also, my right ankle is a bloody mess that needs to have a brace on if I do any sort of exercising and my left ankle has tendonitis because of crap ankle. So, if I'm limping around then I don't really do anything. :/

I used to be in better shape, but that was before my ankle made it very difficult to play soccer and basketball without having to worry about severe pain. When I played soccer and basketball a lot, I was always competing for fastest player on the field/court and I was easily the best forward on my soccer team. Unfortunately, the amount of kicking and jumping required in those two sports puts a lot of stress on my already weak ankle, so I had to drop them, and since those are my favorite aerobic sports to play, I'm nowhere near as active or athletic as I used to be.

Now, I still occasionally play games like ultimate frisbee with friends, and despite how inactive I've become, I'm normally still able to keep up with even the highly athletic ones. So I'd say that as long as I'm active, I'm well above average. If I'm not active, I'm still reasonably athletic just nowhere near where I can be.

Nothing notable, really. My job keeps me in shape, it's nonstop work on my feet and often times lifting heavy shit everywhere. Plus I play tuba in the marching band, marching band gets me dem gams.

But I play maybe one casual game of basketball a year. So yeah.

5'8, 130 lbs, able to press twice my weight on the bench, chin up with a single arm, several two finger single hand pushups, and almost jump my height from a standstill.
Old pic by the way.

i almost died from tuberculosis and lack of iron....a year ago and i've been a goddamn noodle ever since because i can't go all out with exercising thanks to my messed up lungs. so i'd say i'm really unfit.

kinda sucks since i used to be an award winning runner beforehand. once you've been at your peak it's hard to adjust to not being as strong as you used too.

I don't classify what I do as exercise, but I'm a runner by trade. I've been running for nearly 20 years, and I'm constantly training to hopefully be able to run a marathon in 3 hours. It's no easy task for regular people, but I have a little talent. It's been about constantly pushing my full capacity with speed work and putting in higher mileage (60+/week).

Living in Southwest Florida makes that a real challenge with the really hot weather here.

I'll say that it is pretty funny to see the exercisers' faces when they see me busting out some 7 minute miles. :D

I'm also working on that sub 20 minute 5k. That is tough to do despite my talent for this sport.

People always ask me all the time if I'm just doing this for fitness, and I always say NO.

I'm about pushing myself to see just how fast and how far I can push myself.

My ultimate goal is to become an ultra runner who can run 50-100 miles. Running marathons is just a stepping stone for me. Marathons are all about speed for me. I find it quite exhilarating to run fast miles.
My post from the exercise thread.

This sums it up quite nicely. Pretty good for a 5'3 165 lbs guy.

I'd say well above average if not for the fact that I'm actually awful at team based sports. Want me to run, or swim, or jump over walls? I'm totally your guy. Want me to play basketball or baseball, or soccer? Yeah, not a good idea. Sometime about team based games never really clicked with me, and I don't know why. Maybe it's because I just never put any trust in my teammates.

So yeah, I can run a sub 6 minute mile, I can swim forever, easily bike 30 miles, and can lift 100 pounds over my head without any significant effort, but for some reason I'll never be able to dribble a bloody soccer ball.

I'm the same way about team sports. I played volleyball when I was 20 or so, I obviously was too short to be any good at outside of playing the back row well.

Also, it boggles my mind that people just can do sub 6 minute miles WITHOUT ANY EFFORT. That really pisses me off. I've been training like mad to hopefully get that fast, and I'm not there yet. It's just not fair!!

Edit: I'm almost at 6 even, but to run faster than that. My mind just can't comprehend that.

A bit above average, if a little pudgy around the waistline. I work security so I'm just in good enough shape to run up 3 flights of stairs or wrestle down a tweaker.

I just quit smoking recently and am working to get myself in peak shape. I used to jog 7 miles 4 times a week, trying to regain that.

Like most other commenters, I *sucked* at team sports, prefer the solo events.

Uhhhhhm, I know I shouldn't let the cat out of the bag like this, but I'm basically Batman.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say I could even be Superman.

Running faster than a speeding bullet? You got it.

More powerful than a locomotive? Puh-lease, I lift train cars in my sleep.

Leaping tall buildings in a single bound? You kidding, that's my afternoon commute.

Yeah, so, you know, next time you need something done, you know who to call. Just make sure to keep the Kryptonite away.

Seriously though, I've never been particularly "athletic". My lungs are terrible and I've never had much upper body strength; I've been lifting 20-pound dumbbells for the past eleven, twelve months or so, alternating other exercises in on a regular basis as well. Lately I've been doing wall sitting, push-ups, and tricep dips alongside the lifting every day or every other day. I'm arguably in the best shape of my life and technically haven't been overweight for my height for the last six months, but my BMI is still relatively high.

I either swim a few laps or run 1.5 miles most of the week, and do weight training once a week to keep from losing my gains over the past few years weight training up.

Right now I'm working on losing about 10 lbs. over the next month so my work doesn't yell at me.

I used to be above average in high school until I graduated... Now, I'm just average who can still keep up with the track team and beyond...

Other than that, I need more muscle endurance in the arm region... (They'll still jealous of my legs, by the way...)

Average/Slight higher than average. When college started I began working out and going to the gym, then sort of stopped when summer came along. I'm trying to start exercising regularly to get rid of any fat and damage all the soda I drink may have given me. -.-
