I'll make the point after touchdown here by giving the example that Yahtzee Croshaw, in his Minecraft review, suggested that all Americans are stupid racists who use illegal Mexican immigrants as slave labor.

Care to explain how that's any different or any less insulting?
Yes, Yatzee doesn't claim to be an serious news Channel. ^.^
And how does that excuse accusations of slavery?
Because it is pretty goddamn similar to slavery. Think about it, the laborers get paid very little money, work long hours and don't get any of the benefits a normal worker gets. They're not even protected by OSHA, because if they even tried to get help from the government, they know they will be sent back to their country of origin. They miss work, no matter what the reason is and they get fired or deported. It isn't slavery, but its the next best thing to it.

But that's besides the point, after all, the man says everything he does for shock value comedy. Its all a form of dark comedy that mocks society, politicians, pop culture and the world in general. He shouldn't be taken seriously if he is saying it through his cut out representation of himself.

Yeah I saw the video too. Frankly I thought there was no reason to call out Andy like that. I'm not even sure what the hell the point was they were trying to make. "Why don't you write a real article," "pandering". What the hell were they talking about. Maybe it would have been better if the title of Mr. Chalks article was, "Quack Psychiatrist Goes on Fox News and Says Bulletstorm Causes Rape", but still I didn't think it was out of line. As for the Bill O 'Reiley moon remark that's an old joke similar to "AL Gore invented the Internet". It almost seems like they're just trying to start some flame war to get extra views from the Escapist.

If you're going to take Yahtzee seriously on this than I'm going to have to ask you to leave the internet right now cause their is something wrong with you.

The difference here is that Andy's remarks were quite clearly intended to be humorous. He wasn't making bold claims, just making a bit of a joke about how ridiculous the whole thing was.

The Bill O'Rielly comment at the end was out of line, but that's it. These guys are actually being rather ignorant journalists. For one, they say Andy did not link back to the original article, but there's always the "source" link at the bottom of the page. For two, he really just wasn't as out of line as these guys are saying. Fox News doesn't simply have unaffiliated people say random things, they bring people on that they know will say what they want.

Fox News reported that Bulletstorm was promoting violent rape (which was horrifically out of line on their part and makes no logical sense at all), then brought someone on to say that video games are responsible for higher rape crime rates. It is their responsibility, their fault, their terrible excuse for journalism, and Andy Chalk did nothing wrong by pointing that out.

Yahtzee is a comedian and his show is intended to be taken as satire. If Fox News were to show a segment from The Colbert Report it might be more akin to what you're talking about (zing?)

The Game Heroes are making an excellent point; Andy Chalk was extremely hypocritical in his article as he twisted words and used poor journalism which is exactly what he accused Fox News of doing. Part of me can't help but feel he used the whole "ZOMG FOX NEWZ HATEZ GAMERZ" type of tag-line just to get views for his article because hating Fox news is "the cool thing to do" among the gaming community.
That reads like a stump speech, especially since the criticism doesn't reflect what actually happened.

I just went to that Blistered Thumbs site, and now my eyes feel like they're blistered too. Who the hell designed their site? It looks like it belongs on Geocities.
So what are these guys about? I can't get video here at work so I couldn't view their argument, but most of the comments on the video page were just attacks on the Escapist or at Andy Chalk personally. Do they have a problem with people calling out Faux News on their bullshit? Do they think we're too hard on poor old Bill O'Really? (Yes, I know it's O'Reilly, I like my version better.) Do they think that nasty piece of work psychiatrist is being treated unfairly?

I don't understand these people.

I was going to make a thread about this.... but i didn't.
I also never read that thread in question and I was having the overhanging feeling of nerd rage from the Heroes when they were talking about Chalk. That's were i stand, The Heroes were mad at an article that sure, had one flaw that could seriously hurt games, But consider the fact of how many people our going to see it and compile it as evidence. Not that many seeing as though the law will be iffy about taking evidence from an internet site.

Andy is wrong in some cases but he is right to label it as 'Fox News'. They are a news organization (or atleast they claim to be). By giving a voice to this 'expert' they are essentially giving legitimacy to what the expert is saying. If they had some guy who claims to be an expert on health and he comes on the show and says something ridiculous then they are on the line for his statement.

Um...I don't really see anything wrong with Andy's article, sure it was biased but this is a gaming news site, honestly, who here is going to call that "expert"'s claim that videogames cause rape a reasonable statement that can be defended with evidence? And isn't it rather reasonable to call the organization that puts forth such bullshit as actual news out on it's own bullshit?

To be fair, Fox News probably has nothing against videogames, this is just another story they spun out of their ass to get views and cause buzz amongst us.

Seriously, all they want is attention. And that's what we're giving to them. Same thing with these "Game Heroes".

this is less about the article or the game and more about The Left VS The Right, but that's just me.
Hardly. I don't like Fox News at all but I don't really like the way The Escapist heavily editorialises its news articles either. In my opinion no Escapist news article should have misleading, jokey headlines silly comments at the end or "opinion" mixed in with the actual news, and the exchange you've quoted is a classic example of the sort of shit-fight that can result from such practices. I hate to admit it but they actually have a point.

I agree with the rest of your post, but I had to reply to this part. I don't think there's anything you can say about Bill O'Liar that's out of line. The man is a consummate bullshit-artist, and he has devoted his public life to demonising everything his corporate masters have decided they don't like, or might get ratings for. He is scum, pure and simple, and I am ashamed to share a planet with the likes of him.

That alone is worth a quote.

But seriously, I like a good chunk of what CA has going. It's not like the whole thing is bad, but some of the contributors are....Yeah. Awful. And this is one of those examples.
I don't care for Benzaie either. He is JUST french enough that it's difficult to understand him, and he tends to treat everything with a seriousness that makes it difficult for me to take an interest.

Heck yeah someone dropped the ad hominem bomb
