... to both celebrate the life, and mourn the death of NinjaDeathSlap's Xbox 360, Xavier. Who, after an astonishing 6 years of faithful service, tragically passed away this evening after finally falling victim, like so many of his comrades before him, to the Red Ring of Death.
Xavier lived an honest life, always being there to banish boredom and melancholy whenever was required, asking only for a few updates and a well ventilated room in return. He shared in the toil of my efforts, the frustration of my failures, and the elation of my triumphs. While he may have been a construction of metal and plastic, through all those memories, stretched out across his long life-span, he became something more to me. He became a creature of true soul, a companion, a friend.
He will never be forgotten. While life shall go on, and newer, shinier, 'better' models shall be acquired, I fear it will not be the same.
So this is my Eulogy to him. God speed Xavier, may you rest in peace.
*Ahem* Yes, so, discussion value: In these modern times where new models are rendered obsolete and replaced quicker than ever (with the apparent exception of the current generation of consoles) what is the longest you have ever held onto a single piece of tech? Have/Did you, during that time, ever feel that, to you personally, it had become more than just a machine? Also, if we are talking in the past tense, how did you feel when you were forced to say goodbye?
(P.S. For those who may not recognise it and may now be itching to tell me to grow a pair, I am dramatizing this a little, and am not in genuine grief because my Xbox is bricked. However, I won't deny that I will always associate a lot of memorable moments and highly charged emotions with that console. I was genuinely surprised at how moved I was, which led me to the realisation that, yes, it did mean more to me than just the sum of its parts.)
