Because the "bad girl" attitude is very in at the moment, in case you hadn't noticed. Artists like Pink, Lady GaGa, and even as far back as when Britney Spears came out of the woodwork to try and revitalise her career. Girls aspire to be that "bad girl" and guys all think it's hot. Perhaps "bad girl" is the wrong term, but a free spirit, a renegade, loud and proud, you know what i mean. A typical "i'm totally defying gender definitions by not only flaunting it, but by ridiculing it". It's the type of "i want what i want but you're not necessarily the one to give it to me" attitude that Bayonetta exudes. Sexually aggressive is perhaps the term i'm looking for.

I find her to be, relatively, unattractive.
And I greatly dislike her annoying music.

So, yeah, I'm with ya, OP. I don't know why people like her either (because I sure as hell don't).

If anything, I'd say it might be because her music is repetitive (especially when its being played 5 times a day on every radio station) and, therefore, catchy.

I don't know what the hype is either. I find the statement "I like person XYZ because they're hot" to be a pretty flimsy excuse.

Dara is brilliant! What DVD/show is that clip from? Edit - Ignore that, I stopped being a retard and checked the youtube link.

OT: Don't see any reason to dislike her. She makes music that I don't mind, ranges from inoffensive to Ok for me. If she was mega popular I'd understand disliking her in the Moviebob sense that she's taking money that could be spent on 'better' musicians (not that I agree with him) but she's not mega popular, in the UK at least.

I also find Russell Brand to be a funny guy, less so his stand up but I like(d) his radio show and movie appearances as well as his TV work. I just don't think he's as clever as he thinks he is, and says stupid things at times.
I missed your "Ignore that" part...anyway...

This may be completely off topic but he is my all time favourite comedian.

It is just 100% subjective though. Some people will call this music superior while others will call that music superior. There is no objective way to find out what "sounds in your ears" are better.
You are right :)

Although, being off-tune vocally is objective and she sings off tune without computers so that's why I think her music is shite

In my opinion, her music is pretty decent, on average Id give it about 6.5-7 out of 10, a good pop star, however she is like a 12 out of 10 on the attractive scale. Damn, if I could have just one night with her, that would make my life exponentially more complete and awesome.

I don't actively listen to her music, but she's a really cool person. I met her right when she recorded her first album, before anyone knew who she was, and she was a real sweetheart. I thought the fame would go to her head, but I've run into her a few times since she exploded, and she's remained pretty much the same. Really down to earth, and totally fun to be around.

That being said, her music isn't bad. Like I said, I don't listen to it regularly, but the songs I've heard have all been pretty catchy and well-written. Going by the state of pop music today, that makes her, like, Irving Berlin or something (that might be a step to far).

The same reason people like Queen, Beatles, Lady Gaga, Avenged Sevenfold or Justin Bieber. They like the music.
It's good to know that naïveté is still alive and well...
Naïveté is an important cultural heritage that needs to be preserved. I'm just doing my part.
Touché!

One of the things that really pisses me off in life is musical elitists, you know those people who think they are superior for the music they listen to.
I'd say crucially there's a difference between thinking you're superior for the music you listen to, and thinking that some music is superior to other music (and obviously you'll listen to the former).

Let us agree though, that Dara O'Briain is awesome.
It is just 100% subjective though. Some people will call this music superior while others will call that music superior. There is no objective way to find out what "sounds in your ears" are better.
Dara O'Briain's argument amuses me but I don't actually agree with it. The 'sounds in your ear' thing is just a rhetorical trick. It's like saying paintings are just lines in front of your eyes; there just is more to it than that.
There is subjectivity but it's not 100% subjective. Maybe it's merely based on consensus, but there are certain values which should be considered 'superior'. Originality in the music, artistry and profundity in the lyrics; there's more to what makes great music than 'I like it because it's catchy'. I don't want to say there's a definitive list that is immutably right for what is greater music, much less that my opinion should be it, but there must be a line drawn somewhere. The Beatles are better than the Backstreet Boys, they just are. I know people who prefer the latter but one can't genuinely argue that that music is superior. I will never be convinced that Katy Perry should be considered superior to, or even just as good as, Tom Waits or Jimi Hendrix, or The Smiths or Modest Mouse, just because some people like her more (and moreover would never give the others a chance). There is a difference between personal preference and superiority, and dialogue between the two should hopefully bring about some interesting debate, but subjective choice should not be the only criterion.

She has huge talents.

She really is a testament to the powers of software. Also, her songs are pretty catchy. What I don't get is why she doesn't get as much hate as Ke$ha, at least Ke$ha is upfront with her inability to hold a tune.
Personally, while I'm not a huge fan of her music, I find her very attractive, and think she has a lovely voice.
