Hello, I would like to submit the following character for the Evangelion RP.
Notes at End (marked with *)
Enjoy
Name: Dr. Owen J. Laurence
Age: Appears and legally 28 (Actually closer to 14)
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 206
Blood Type: O Positive
Rank: Specialist (United Nations Corp of Engineers)
Character Type: Manufactured
Physical Appearance:
Owen appears to be of Mixed Anglo-Saxon and Germanic decent. He has dark brown frizzled hair (think a younger version of Einstein for effect) and (almost) unnaturally bright blue eyes. When not in a combat situation, he is generally dressed in tan slacks with a navy blue shirt (always disheveled) over which he wears a white lab coat. He always has safety glasses on him somewhere, though exactly where he keeps them changes daily (sometimes on an inside pocket of his coat, other times on his head, other time hanging from his belt, etc) his skin is somewhat tanned, an oddity as few people believe he leaves his lab with any frequency. When the fighting is on, Owen dresses in military fatigues, though he retains the lab coat and safety glasses
Bio/History:
Owen Laurence does not exist. The name was invented some time ago by combining several names from various books he read as a "child". In truth, Dr. Laurence was created as a prototype for the future manufactured pilots. His creation predates the Evangelion project and as such, never had the ability to synchronize with an Eva. In fact, the Evangelions unsettle him and he suspects the Eva?s feel much the same (though he has no proof of this, just a gut instinct).
Owen spent his childhood in a science facility, being poked and prodded by scientist to try to figure out how to make a better clone. His early life was spent escaping into whatever books he could acquire in the lab (mostly technical manuals and historical/science fiction novels). Unsurprisingly, the reading and rereading of countless science textbooks from a young age, combined with the increased intellect and memory that his creators had chosen to include in his genetic code, soon allowed him to speak on level with any of the scientists in the facility. The progress that Owen was able to make at the facility was significant and it pleased the scientists to see how successful the cloning process had been. Unbeknownst to the researchers however, Owen was filling with hate. Owen, you see, had known from his reading from a young age exactly what he was: an experiment ? one that had a definitive end point that would include the ?liquidation of all prototype assets?. As such, he knew for most of his life that it would come to an end at the hands of his so called parents. As the experiment went on, his despair and hatred grew until, a plan began to form. When the time of his liquidation grew close at hand, his 10th birthday, he used what tools he had gathered to break out of the facility, and burn it to the ground. Within his chamber, he placed one of the failed clone samples from elsewhere in the lab complex to cover his tracks and ran for the hills.
The plan worked and he managed to escape into the world. As he traveled the world (or what was left of it) he came to realize a truth ? that life is suffering and that no one should be forced to endure it. He saw the struggles of those that lived in the post impact world and decided to end that pain, in the grandest way possible, using the only tool he had: science.
It was at this time that Owen took his name (until then he had simply been a number). He used his knowledge to build a reputation as a leader in the scientific community and it was not long before he was invited to join the UN science commission. From there, he had intended to end the world, before he was informed of one more truth: that of the Angels and the Evangelions. The revelation shocked the misanthropic doctor. Here he had been planning to kill all humanity, but there were many more creatures that were to blame who would escape judgement is he were to enact his plan. So he modified his plan in step. Now he intends to aid the Evangelions in their destruction of the Angels that have ravaged the earth and when the Angels are no more, he will use them to destroy humanity as well
Other:
Owen suffers from a strange side effect of his cloning. Due to the prototype nature of his clone body, he ages at an accelerated rate (appearing to age 2 years for every year). Owen takes medication he created himself to mitigate the negative effects and keep his clone body solvent, but he cannot stop the rapid aging, which grows worse by the year.
Owen has sympathy for other created beings (such as manufactured pilots and the Evangelions) but at the same time fears them. He can empathize with the struggles of being created, but he fears that if he gets too close to another manufactured, he will be discovered. As such he keeps his distance from manufactured as best as possible but, in the event that one is going to be harmed, he will step in and defend them. (his misanthropy does not extend to manufactured creatures).
Owen has lived his whole life hiding behind a facade. Deceit is second nature to him and he uses several layers of it at any given time. He has found that people do not generally consider him a threat if he wears the mask of the eccentric professor so he plays the fool for all it?s worth.
*Notes:
I would like Owen to fill the role that Dr. Akagi would have filled in the Anime/Manga - that of the onsite specialist in all things technical.
As you have no doubt noticed, this character is a bit of a villain and I would intend to play him as such (in the background of course) I figure, Evangelion had about 5 different factions all with their varying degrees of evil and that this would make for a rather interesting addition (who really expects another player to be a villain)
Please let me know what you think (with discretion of course as giving away the evilness would just ruin the fun)
