Dead Space; i had gotten literaly every achivement on that game ( and yes, i did beat the WHOLE game with the plasma cutter), had fully upgraded everything, and i still kept playing it. But for what it's worth it was an awesome game.

Parts 1&2 of the first four .hack games, they're a micro managing nightmare you need to tell your allies to do everything from attack to HEAL ME I"M DIEING and in certain dungeons it's kinda unbalanced monster wise that and the Ai are crap.
It wasn't until parts 3&4 did the games get their act together, but i still play them, because i love them ... and the hope that gameplay improves in the next part helps too

Everytime I play Aion.

Honestly, Cabal is a much better MMORPG because it's actually fun. =_=

I only play Aion because my friends refuse to play anything else.

Yep.

Viva Pinata, for one.

Then I stopped.
Yeah, that game really hacked me off. Near nothing seemed to change as you pursued through that game. Sure, your garden got a little bigger, and you got some people to water the plants, etc, but nothing ever changed. It was still doing the same formulas to get Pinatas. Man I spent about 20hrs on that then quit.

Animal Crossing: City Folk. I'm glad the stupidity of me playing that awful piece of shit only lasted a day or 2 before I got rid of it.

My little sister played that for about 6-12 months non-stop then one day just stopped because she stopped to wonder why she was saving up to buy a bigger house and decided she didn't need or want to.

She keeps playing Pokemons again and again though.

But luckily when I got 'The Sims 3' - which I had no idea why I had purchased it - I started creating a Sim and stopped after a few hours because I guessed the game had no hope.

I was wondering has anyone here ever played a game obsessively for many, many hours for weeks on end, not willing to stop, even once you've asked yourself "why do I even play this game?" and unable to come up with an answer?

For me, it's been Harvest Moon for the Gameboy SP. I spent weeks/months playing that, constantly just waking up in the morning, cutting down tree stumps, collecting milk and eggs to slowly but surely build a small fortune to buy a bigger house. But I honestly can't think to this day why I cared less about getting a bigger house.

Anyone?
Same game, same reason. Harvest Moon: FoMT is one of the most inexplicably enjoyable games ever made...right up there with the original HM on the SNES.

I had the same sort of feeling playing Animal Crossing on the Gamecube.
